The first five (this was sixth, right?) episodes felt like totally unnecessary filler about people I couldn't care less about. If I'd just jumped in with this episode, I'd've been much more interested in the show overall. Actually, this could have been just a two hour movie or maybe three-episode event starting with this one and I think the story would've been better served. Oh well, only a few more episodes until it's over.

Kudos to Joe Locke in this episode though for almost convincingly pulling off the 13-year old innocence/look/physicality. Obviously too old for it in real life, but did a good job in those scenes and distinguishing Kaplan from Maximoff in his performance. Overall, I enjoyed this episode.

My main takeaway from this show is that it's about a million times better than Secret Invasion or Echo
Those were the only two MCU shows/projects I didn't finish. Got really far into Secret Invasion but was bored out of my mind. If I were to rank the MCU shows thus far:

1. WandaVision
2. Agatha All Along
3. Loki
4. Moon Knight
5. Hawkeye (would be #3 if not for the rushed Kingpin plot that didn't quite stick the landing)
6. Ms. Marvel
7. She Hulk
8. Falcon and the Winter Soldier
9. What If?
10. Echo
11. Secret Invasion

If a Scarlet Witch movie does happen, I think Alfonso Cuaron would be great to direct it. Especially since the movie will involve young adults/teens. He was the best director of the HP movies tbh so why not take him to launch Marvel's magical world.

I feel like these are the only MCU Disney+ shows that have had any substantial pop culture reach.

I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes because I felt they set up the story well, I thought episode 4 was a complete dud and added nothing to the story, I think episode 5 was a good setup to his power reveal, and now with episode 6 we’re finally in the meat and potatoes of the story.

Had they eliminated episode 4 I don’t think we’d have lost anything, and arguably they could have combined episodes 3 and 5 into a single episode and gotten the same story result, I think at least 4 episodes were essential to tell the full story to this point though.

That said I’m thrilled we’re finally in the thick of it, this was by far the best episode and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

What's so interesting is watching Grotesquerie unfold in direct parallel with Agatha All Along, including this week's twist, seeing the similarities in concept and the differences in execution. One has captivated my interest from the start, while the other still struggles to do so.

Grotesquerie is a hard show to watch. It's a painful show to watch. And at times, it's a hilarious show to watch. But wow, does it pack a punch - from acting to writing to direction. I hope it gets recognition come awards time. And I can't recall the last time I wished that for a show.

Looking forward to seeing if either Agatha or Grotesquerie can stick the landing. I hope they both do.

10. Echo
11. Secret Invasion

This is obviously more personal than objective, spacing on purpose to denote there’s kind of a differentiator between series I think are highly recommended. Strong if you are into the characters. She Hulk because I know it’s bad but like Tatiana so much and then the stuff I just straight up didn’t care for.

1. WandaVision
2. Loki
3. ?Agatha All Along
4. X-Men ‘97 based on the second half

5. Moon Knight
6. Hawkeye
7. Ms. Marvel
8. What If?
9. Echo

10. She Hulk

11. Falcon and the Winter Soldier
12. Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is the only series I stopped watching.

Oh I didn't know if X-men 97 counted. I would rank that 2nd behind WandaVision, but above Agatha.

Btw, I thought it was kinda cool Billy had a poster for The Black Cauldron in his room. Nice to see Disney finally stop acting embarrassed by the film.
Since the early 2000s Disney has slowly been bringing Black Cauldron into the fold of celebrated animated classics that get references in other media. Which included references in video games, Disney Channel shows like House of Mouse, and shorts such as the retelling in the Chibi Tiny Tales, and now D+ shows. So I think this idea that modern Disney is embarrassed by the film is a bit overblown at this point.

I've seen more Black Cauldron references in the past 2 years than the previous 20 combined.

I think Black Cauldron has major flaws so it's not so much that I think it's underrated as much as I think it's "over-hated". The end result is a mess, but I admire the movie's ambition and think it deserves more credit. Visually it's the best looking film of Disney's bronze age.

Could it be you missed them and so it only seems like there are more now? Like Horned King and Creeper making appearances and Daisy using the Black Cauldron on House of Mouse in the early 2000s.

It was an edited mess for sure, and was far darker than what Disney had previously done. But at this point I don't think its actually "hated" either internally by Disney or externally by fans. I think its actually gotten a huge cult following over the years.

After reading Disney In-Between it's a miracle what was eventually released to theaters and video is even coherent.

The last minute editing was merely the final blow to an agonizing production where no one could agree on what to do or who to listen to. It kind of makes you appreciate the movie more, ironically.

I wish Disney was willing to do more honest documentaries about their troubled films. An in-depth feature-length documentary revolving around the behind-the-scenes drama of notable failures like The Black Cauldron or controversial films like Song of the South would likely be more interesting than the movies themselves. But Disney tends to only do a deep-dive when their movies are a success, even if the stories behind the failures or misfires are even more interesting.

Case in Point — the Sweatbox was a fascinating look at the failed attempt to do Kingdom of the Sun before it became Emperor's New Groove, but for reasons I don't know the company has made that documentary hard to find.
