This thread is making me laugh- because my family and i aren't even so much worried about the germs on the handlebars- but the smell that won't come off our hands for the rest of the day if we do touch the bars. no soap can dispose of or cover that unique aroma up!

That smell is vile :hurl:

This ride does need a bit of a rehab. I am glad it will be open when I am there in Sept. Last time I went in Sept of 2002 it was closed.

Splash Mt. was just closed for rehab last Jan. Why would they close it again this coming Jan.?

I just loooooove these RUMOR boards.

Why would another site post a scheduled rehab, but disney's official site does not have splash or RnR'coaster listed?

Disney's official site is notoriously slow to post such things.

Hmmm... well, haha, I actually kinda laughed when you said "Splash Mountain just HAD a rehab in January, why do they need another one?" Well... I sure wouldn't want to get on a ride that hadn't been worked on and checked in about a year, would you? Maybe... and this is a crazy idea... they might just be closing it down like they regularly close down every other ride to make sure all the show scene stuff is working properly, the boats are cleaned, the water is cleaned and filtered (funny story, haha) and everything else that just needs to be double checked on a ride to make sure it's SAFE for the coming year.

Hmmm... remember, that's just a nutty thought; don't know WHERE it came from. :P

Funny Story: When I went on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, back stage, and I saw the giant pool behind splash mountain where the water circulates, there was a water snake that was swimming on the surface, trying to reach one of the hoses. Our tour guide got all quiet, and people started to kinda get freaked out, and then he laughed and said it's obviously harmless, he didn't know how he exactly got in there, but he'd get out safely.

My Great Aunt has grown up around Disney and she has told me that Splash Mountain and Space Mountain have almost ALWAYS been closed when she goes, and it's just ironic that she goes during the times they shut the rides down for a rehab.

It happens, guys. If it happens, it happens, and we don't know how long the rehab might be, but a rehab will happen at some point... it kinda has to, haha. ^_^

I'm going on the Keys tour on the 25th, I certainly hope there isn't a water snake (or any sort of snake) floating back there then  . Not that I'm scared or anything :lookaroun !

The weasle is sneezing if you listen to an isolated audio track of just him. It's just hard to hear the other parts of the sneeze in the middle of all of the in ride audio.

Glad I can amuse you.:D

I understand the reasons for a rehab, I just did not realize that every ride is shut down at least once a year for it.
I just kinda sux when you plan a trip, spend a lot of money on it, only to find out after you book everything that 2 major attractions will be closed during your visit. Heck, we may just cancel our whole trip. This will be the second consecutive year that splash will be closed while we are there.

They'll be covered though, they'll have things saying that attractions etc. can close at any time (without notice aswell I think)

reopening early

Becca asked if anyone has ever been at a park when a ride reopened early from a rehab. The answer is yes.

On our trip to Disney in October 2003, Tower of Terror was scheduled to be closed for rehab for our entire week stay. Near the end of our week, on our second trip to Studios, riding the tram into the park, the tram operator said and Tower of Terror has opened today after its time off. I went and checked it out at park closing hoping to catch a short line. But the line was still over 2 hours at that point, so I had to wait for our next visit.

But it did reopen early from its scheduled rehab.

Oh it's a GREAT tour, and most likely there won't be any snakes, hehe. That was probably one of the rarest chances. Gosh, what a great tour, Amy, you are going to feel SO awesome after that tour... like... I dunno, hehe, I just felt so enthusiastic about the entire park, knowing how much larger it really was. I really appreciated everything SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more (even though I basically idolized the park in the first place, haha) So have fun, hun, and those little pins they give you are PRICELESS. Definite keepsakes. :)

And bsandersjr, haha, yeah, totally understand how you feel. I have gone and had one of my FAVORITE attractions close down. Chyeah, we got fast passes for Everest REEEEALLY early, and we got there on time, it was my best friend's first time, he was all excited, he was literally shaking, it was awesome... but the entire day had this creepy overcast, and then the lightning came, and then something malfunctioned with the ride, and it shut down for the rest of the day, so we got a new fast pass from a cast member (what a nice guy, too), and waited until the next day to ride it again. For my friend's first time, we rode in the middle. Then we waited in line (you know where it wraps behind the fast pass area and you think it's uber long) and we only waited 45 minutes! The line moved so quick. Haha, we got to sit in the front, and then we rode AGAIN (only waited 25 minutes) and we sat in the very back, and bought the picture.

So sometimes, waiting is pretty okay. You shouldn't have to cancel your trip, but maybe... if you can, and you really really fel you want to, you can reschedule it for AFTER the rehab (saying if it's true that it will happen) And you'll have an awesome time.

But yeah, with the rehabs for every ride, sometimes, they're so quick, no one notices. for other rides (like Haunted Mansion) they can be about a week and a half to repair the stretching photos and make sure all the items in the attic and everything else are working properly and looking pretty. Sometimes, we just don't notice. For Splash Mountain, it's such a popular ride, they need to do extensively long rehabs for it, sometimes more than once, so it CAN remain open the entire year without problems.
