Tonights battle:

In this corner, hailing from the Magic Kingdom, based off the movie "Song of the South", SPLASH MOUNTAIN!

and in the opposite corner, hailing from Toon Lagoon at Universal's Islands of Adventures, Dudley Do-Rights Rip Saw Falls!

The categories are THEME, STORYLINE, and THRILLS

THEME: on a scale of 1-10, I give Splash a 10 and Dudley a 5.

Yes I said 5. Despite the brilliant outdoor section (the "hideout", Mount Dudley, or whatever its called, the Dynamite Shack), the entire indoor and outdoor ride sections seem like they are unfinished or entirely ugly. In Splash, every foot of log trough is covered to look like the rest of the mountain. The animatronics are much more sophisticated than Dudley. Dudley looks like the ride where they ran out of money to finish it.

STORYLINE: Splash: 10 Dudley: 5
Dudley Do-Right's faithfully follows his daily misadventures on the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" show, but the storyline is not 100% clear. Dudley seems to jump from location to location. He's on his horse, now hes in a cave, now he's in a boat over a river, now he's in the ground. I know that every character in an attraction jumps, and the riders take the place of the character, but it still doesn't make sense to me.

You're in a cave, and then hit by a train, and then we see Dudley hanging above us, stuck in a log. I can decipher Fantasmic, but I can't decipher this ride.

Second: The transition from the "theater" to the rest of the ride is a little rough.. I like the critters making the noises, but it doesn't have anything to do with the ride.

THRILLS: Dudley 10 Splash 10
Dudley finally catches up, mainly due to the fact that its ride features a more exciting final drop, complete with a fall into a dynamite shack, and you get extremely wetter than Splash. The designers clearly made it so the logs were not "toned down" in any way.

So, the winner is SPlash with a score of 30, and Dudley with a score of 20.

What are your ratings??

I totally agree with your numbers and evaluation of the 2 rides. My wife and I tell people it is like watching a high school versus a broadway version of the same play. Both are good and thrilling to watch but one is just done MUCH better.

I would have to give Dudley a higher thrills rating

Was It just the time I rode, or does the log actually fly off of the track? I thought it was broken maybe and we were to die.

What with all the safety restraints on it and all.NOT!!!

WOW, Dudley a 20, your too kind.

Theme: SM - 10+
RF - 4 (on Appearance)

Story: SM - 9 (missing a tad, but 9 is great for me, always room for better)
RF - 2 (what's the story, Dasturdly v. Dudley)

Thrill: SM - 9 (very good, but it doesn't thrill me totally)
RF - 9 (seems to be more drops on this one to me)

Final for me: SM - 29 (Extra credit on theme)
RF - 15 (bomb's away)

Now, Popeye v. Kali, there's a matchup.

Splash Mountain definitely wins in theme. The outside of Dudley Do-Right is impressive, but the queue, the ride itself, well they just fell flat for me. Splash 10, Dudley 4

Storyline: Splash 10. Dudley 3. I guess I wasn't paying attention, but I don't remember the storyline in Dudley. Was there even a storyline?

Thrills: Splash 10, Dudley 10. Yes Dudley gets you wetter, and the ending splashdown on Dudley feels like you jump out of your log. But the extra splashes of water don't make up for the 100% entertainment value of Splash Mountain.

And also, my favorite music on any ride is the "How do ya do" section of Splash Mountain. That section always goes way too fast for me.

Splash :

Is a total 10 ,the theming is what makes Disney attractions more then a ride but a showstopper.

Dudly:

Iis fun with a 5 for trying to theme the characters with an attraction but a 7 on the final drop , you need to get wet after walking allday long at IoA.

Heading for the great escape.
Splash mountain is big on theme, slightly short on moisture. But is a perfect example of what Disney does well
Dudley is cheesy in keeping with that section of IOA and is probably the wetest ride ive been on. It is a graet laugh.
Ive got to be honest and say that i love them both.:sohappy:

THEME
RSF - IOA TRIES. But can't catch Disney. Their first mistake was putting figures outside exposed to the weather. They're all sun bleached, and wind damaged. Many of the scene I saw seemed incomplete, or broken. 5

SM - has it hands down! Although the last time I visited the animatronics were lookin kinda ratty. And, the Laughtingplace was all messed up ie: figures missing, soundtrack out of sync. 8 (POTC would rate a 10)

STORYLINE
RSF - Their second mistake was taking a character like Dudley Do-Right and expecting people to know the Story. If there indeed is a story. They should have shown clips in the queue to help you understand the story. (Instead of those LAME joke-telling animal heads.) 3

SM - While I will probly never see Song of the South It's easy to pick up on Brer Rabbits journey. I'm not quite sure what those animals are celebrating on the riverboat. (too much moonshine perhaps?) 7

THRILLS
RSF - That final drop on RSF is KILLER. I think theres even some airtime. If your not afraid of hitting the roof, Your trying to protect yourself from getting drenched! A thrill far exceeding what SM has to offer. 8

SM - Isn't really that thrilling except that final drop. The drop & rise and drop again in the dark get extra bonus points. (because it was the first (to my knowledge)) 6

RSF = 16
SM = 21

Story: SM - 8 (Even the little kids KNOW what is going on...even if they haven't seen Song of the South)
RSF - 2 (Story???)

Fun-Factor: SM - 8 (Very fun to sing along with)
RSF - 7 (The drops are fun and the running gags are funny)

Theming: SM - 11 (bonus points :) )
RSF - 3 (pretty rough looking)

Thrill Factor: SM - 6 (not very thrilling your second time around)
RSF - 6 (LOVE THAT LAST DROP!)

Total: SM - 33
RSF - 18

>>>But can't catch Disney. Their first mistake was putting figures outside exposed to the weather. They're all sun bleached, and wind damaged. Many of the scene I saw seemed incomplete, or broken.<<<

That has been fixed. Thank Bob Gault and his attempts to raise standards at Universal for that.

I'm not even going to try to compare these two because, well, Splash Mountain is my favorite attraction of all time, period. And Ripsaw Falls... it isn't. :)
