Splash Mountain Update

Went on Splash last week, and was very surprised by how nice everything looked! All of the animatronics had clean, fluffy looking fur/feathers. Everyone was working -- big change from the last time I was on and most of the ride was still. Was very impressed. :)

Yes. It's had a good year.

Rode SM yesterday, everything was working and the ride looked great. I didnt remember getting as soaked as I did get.
I would agree, I rode it a couple days ago and was amazed with how great it looked, I noted many rides seemed to be in much better condition this year then they were this time last year (with a few exceptions).

I pray they can continue to maintain it like they have this year. It's almost unprecedented. Hopefully they were scared enough into learning from past mistakes.
I'd say it's rather miraculous that they've kept it in such fantastic condition since its early 2013 refurb. I fully expected to see this ride fall apart again within the year it reopened. Against the odds though (and a stark contrast to the way most of the rest of WDW is run) someone appears to have taken an interest in keeping it in good condition. I'm extremely pleased with it, barring a few minor issues (most of which weren't even left un-addressed for more than a day). I'm very curious whom or what spurred them onward to keeping the ride maintained properly. It's a level of quality that doesn't seem to exist in most other parts of WDW anymore and even actually reminiscent (at least somewhat) of the standards WDW used to follow 20 years ago. And there's another refurb coming up soon too (no idea what is being addressed there).

The only other places that seem to be kept in mostly good physical condition are Main Street and surprisingly Spaceship Earth. A fair few trim lights were not lit however early last month on Main Street. I'm not sure if the lights were broken or if they weren't all turned on yet (it was still light out). Though considering the random way they were lit up, i'm inclined to think they were probably broken, don't know if they can selectively switch only some lights in the strands on or not (no lights were on at the Grand Floridian except on Narcooseys). On SSE, only the mammoth projection was in bad shape, the rest of the ride was in great looking condition (the animatronics seemed to be moving great). Not including the inherent flaws introduced in 2007's overhaul which aren't related to maintenance. I didn't get to visit the Tiki Room as it was under rehab at the time, but i've heard good things about its current condition as well.

I would hope that the good maintenance at Splash Mountain spreads elsewhere throughout the parks. Pirates and Space Mountain in particular are messes with regards to upkeep, they need help immediately. Big Thunder even needs some work still despite its lengthy refurb a couple of years back. Bring Disneyland's new effects over for starters (Spirit said this would be done at least). The swinging possums and the waterfall on the first lift were absent when I rode as well. Otherwise the ride isn't in bad shape, shouldn't take much to get it looking good again. Living With the Land was also in poor shape with many broken animatronics, i'd imagine it's been a while since it had any decent refurb. And Maelstrom was in awful shape with lots of broken effects and water damage/mold (that book is now closed unfortunately).

I mentioned this in another thread but as of last Saturday the wallpaper in the finale scene is not holding up so well. Several large patches are peeling, it's painfully obvious when riding the train.

That's been the case for months now.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the upcoming refurb.

Because i might get flamed for posting a new topic to address maintenance issues, I'm bumping this one. Rode Splash last week and there were several issues. The turtles in the Laughing Place were not moving on their fountains (these are very simple figures, all they have are simple mouth motion and bounce on top of the fountain). The riverboat finale was missing two of the chickens, and one of the three alligators close by was missing as well. I also did not see the Brer Frog shadow projection in the queue.

All else looked fine. Though the ride seems to be breaking down far more frequently than normal (same is true of Big Thunder).

With the recent cuts hitting the parks, i hope these issues were just an off day and do not remain or escalate.
