None of this could mean anything. The whole thing could get cancelled or it could happen next month. What’s the point of discussing anything then? We re discussing opinions based on the info we have at the moment. To say that it means nothing that the DL app says it happening soon but the WDW app says nothing would be false. Especially because it lines up with rumors we are hearing. If both apps said the same thing or both said nothing you would have more of a point.

Regarding DL’s timeline:

The company hasn't set a timeline, but based on what I've been told, I think they're looking at a 12 month window. The issue is that California's vital outbreak can affect the plan. Another issue is that they have some scenes mapped out in concept, very little mapped out in any sort of CAD, and chunks of the attraction remain blank for what to do. This is further hampered by a budget that simply can't accommodate all the changes needed, AND getting some of the necessary parts is difficult short term due to supply chain issues (specifically electronics).

Regarding construction time:

This will be determined by TDA and TDO budgets and timing for fiscal calendar spending. I don't know DLR's estimated downtime, but I was told WDW is a 14 month job if rushed. Because much of Splash Mountain takes place in an integrated structure, as opposed to a show building, interior demolitions will be time consuming.

Unfortunately, we can agree there. This thing was announced on a blog so obviously there is a much greater chance that it happens. Let’s put it this way, I’d feel a whole better right now if I was in favor this change.

I’m not really in favor of it. I love splash, but I can see the potential.

Oh Lord. Are these people mentally challenged? Let’s announce something in the middle of a pandemic that we don’t have money to do properly and make sure are backs are put up against a wall. Then on top of that let’s do some heavy demolition even though the Splash theme is harmonious with PatF and we don’t have the money to execute the new ride properly.

The Splash theme works with PatF. All they have to do is remove the Brer animatronics and add the PatF ones. Leave most of the existing AAs and set dressing where you can and add some new effects. Of course they re too dumb to realize that people would prefer this to a big empty mountain with screens and 7 AAs.


It’s obvious. Quality is not the first concern of this company anymore.

I would think this might depend on other operations timelines. If the IJA refurb is called off, and MMRR is delayed indefinitely into 2023 or later it may make sense to crib from those budgets and bump this up the project timetable

if not, in an ideal circumstance it may make sense to wait until Fall 2022 to close it and reopen in Spring 2024.

If it follows a Maelstrom>FEA pattern similar to Jim Hill’s and WDWPro’s suggestion, I still can’t foresee it closing any earlier then next Fall (2021) for a Spring/Summer 2023 opening since according to sources they still haven’t supposedly finished 3-D scanned the attraction or produced high-level concept art. Unless it’s just determined more cost effective to mothball it for the time being.

I doubt they would mothball a star attraction like Splash. Controversial or not, it’s still a huge draw and now an even bigger draw to make people say good bye.

I'm very interested to see how they approach the log situation. Brer rabbit is literally carved in the front of every log.. I don't see a simple way to have that removed/covered on every single vehicle. At DL, the logs have needed some work for a while. It would be lovely to have some budget go to reworking the entire flume to accommodate side by side seating. The logs need to be replaced anyways.. not just bc of brer rabbit but also bc of its problematic drainage system, guest discomfort, and efficiency for ride operations. After all, both pirates and small world have received brand new boats in recent years. We heard from Hill that the attraction will take minimum 2-3 years for the overlay.. all that time can't possibly be going to set dressing.. Guardians/Jurassic world all finished their overhauls within a year and those changes were pretty drastic. We know splash will utilize the same sets/animatronics/ride system for the most part.. so we can assume the ride is going to go through a major mechanical refurbishment as well. Crossing my fingers for a new flume/logs

As others have mentioned here, the MK logs are shorter and wider than DL's (and seat 8 compared to DL's single-file 6). Apparently the DL version creates a bigger (perhaps too big) splash at the bottom of the drop. Based on what I've read around here, I would not expect major visible changes to the ride system itself, such as widening of the flume/track/logs at DL.

DL's retheme is coming "soon" (Disney Soon), and MK's is coming eventually, as long as they don't run out of money and Tokyo comes around?

I think the Splash log photo on the left is interesting. I can only imagine what the conversation around that marketing decision might have been.

2020 has been a terrible year and COVID-19 has killed so many people. That being said it is always nice to look for a silver lining... WDW Pro has given me hope that SM may survive!!!
