I think Charlotte is a lovable and absolutely hilarious character, she completely steals every scene she's in for me (often to the detriment of Tiana in fact, who is sort of shoved off to the side). However, she is in fact an extremely spoiled "daddy's little princess" trope. She clearly has a good heart, but nevertheless has a high sense of entitlement for her father's money and hasn't really been taught the meaning of the word "no".

She also strongly fits into the classic "dumb blonde" stereotype. Now I don't have any personal problem with this. I side distinctly with the progressive left regarding most real-world issues, but i'm not uptight regarding fictional media and I love a lot of old movies that are considered "problematic" nowadays. I don't know if there are many people bothered by Charlotte specifically (i've come across a couple of articles from people who think she's obnoxious, stupid and even racist), but i've seen ample criticism of characters who share her same personality traits.

Something that did kind of bug me however was Charlotte considering a future romantic future with a 6 year old (Naveen's little brother). That always made me really uncomfortable.

That's just it for me. If you are going to assume people are offended by Splash in large numbers, then yes you can literally look at every attraction as having something "offensive" about it. How dare Disney use a Jamaican accent with a crab, HM is about dead people (too scary for kids of course ;) ), Hall of President's is divisive, Pirates are pillagers and rapists blah blah blah.

PatF is a great ip and I'm hoping they continue the story on Disney+. Splash is the perfect venue for it. So it's more about making wdw more relatable to all and less exclusive in content. Failing to address that or understand that or even trying to understand that is the main thing I think is devisive. Boggles my mind.

I see why Walt Disney emphasized evolving the parks continually. He knew people would want them to become like museums because of nostalgia. Stasis will destroy the brand. Business 101. Just my opinion.

I understand the need for change, but it must be just as good or better than what's being replaced otherwise its a failure.

Agreed 100%. And I just have always thought Imagineering could meet that challange. Will be interesting to see if people change their mind when they see the Disneyland version and demand it for wdw.

Does anyone know if there might be any operational reasons Disney might want to change the ride vehicles (logs) as part of the overlay? I know the MK version seats rows of two while the DL version is single file. I believe that in addition to higher volume (under normal circumstances), it also allows for faster load/unload. But is the ride itself dependable in good working order?

I would think they would want to give the WDW logs to DL like you said because of capacity. Beyond that I doubt they would change much else about the ride system.

EDIT: It appears the logs have more moss on them to reflect being in a bayou. At least that is how it is in the concept art. Which appears to be the WDW version given the logs, but it could be DL just will new logs.

It’s also an early piece of concept art. Most likely the Brer Rabbit heads will be removed And that’s it.

Forgot about the figure heads...will they replace them with a frog or Ray or something?
I’d imagine they’d try to get away with no figureheads if possible. If they need something to cover up, then definitely frogs.

They’d be very VERY foolish to highlight the Ray character in any way for this ride. But, then again, they did have Liver Lips McGrowl on full display yesterday. Nothing surprises me.

Ray has to be in the ride. He is one of the best parts of that movie. This isn’t political he is a key character. He also has one of the best songs.

Maybe just tone down the accent or use his relatives.

EDIT: Jim Hill specifically mentioned Ray’s relatives.

Nothing wrong with Ray or his accent. The events of the ride seemingly taking place after the events of the movie is the only issue, for now.

It’s a stereotype. One of the worst and most annoying characters from the film. The only “fix” would be getting a proper voice to match the ethnicity, which is in line with other rumours on here.

Yeah I know what it's "driven by", but people like yourself simply accepting that... is the real problem

I think they could use this as an oppertiuty to

1 Celebrate the history of the Walt Disney Company and Walt Disney Animation, and at the the same time introducing the public the actual American History

2 Make the Park more diverse at the same time, buy filling in an area of Magic Kingdom that sat empty for 50 years, with these new Animated Characters

Hands down this would be amazing!

Since this is “after the kiss” Ray should maybe just appear in the finale (riverboat scene) as a pair of stars in the background (on a screen) alongside Evangeline.

Hopefully the Zip-e-de-lady, some of the original AAs, and Mr. Bluebird will stay in that scene as an homage to the original ride too.

Cajuns are white people, Ray is Cajun thus he is white. A white person voices Ray. Are we now going to demand voices based on nationalities?
Just don’t use the character for goodness sakes. He’s canonically dead. It’s not like they don’t have a reason to exclude him.
If the motive of this retheme is to be non-controversial, injecting characters with fake stereotypical accents just isn’t bright.
