First off TP2000, also claimed that Hamilton had to go the way of Splash Mountain since it was racist. Despite it growing app downloads of Disney + by 75%. I don’t think we should trust everyone.

Secondly, and this goes for EVERYONE in this thread. Just because an “insider” comes in here and offers you hope that Splash is staying doesn’t automatically make it true. This message isn’t targeted to anyone in particular but keep this in mind.

I mean nothing negative by this statement but we have to stop believing people blindly. I have made my opinions on this retheme very clear so I will not make them again.

WDW Pro & Marni are the two main sources here. Both have proven themselves, I trust them more then the average insider.

I still think the retheme is on for WDW for a lot of different reasons and it is NOT because I want the retheme to happen. Here are a couple of reasons why:

1.) The media coverage- notice how when Splash Mountain is covered in the media it is said it is racist (it isn’t) but to the people watching if someone tells you over and over again something is racist then you believe it. Disney cares very much about their image.

2.) The announcement- Disney wouldn’t announce it coming to WDW one week and then not follow though. They have proven time and time again they do not care about fan demand.

Again, I could be wrong and I love Splash but the damage has been done even by Disney themeselves:

We should first wait and see what the insiders say and give us actual reasoning then we can see it has been canceled or not.

For your first point, it’s important to distinguish when TP2000 is joking or not. He’s a very sarcastic lad. The Hamilton Post was a joke poking fun at the logic of why this retheme “NEEDS TO HAPPEN”.

He has definitely proven himself. He knows what he’s talking about.

As for my reasoning on why they MIGHT want to pause the retheme at WDW (keyword Might), it really is just logical speculation based on known information.

And to the last point. The media treating Splash Mountain as racist. You and I both know it isn’t true. Most Disney fans know it isn’t true. But the people who know this are either scared to speak up, or are so rapped up in the fact that they want their PatF ride that they’ll cut any throat to get it.

It’s the biggest assasination of character I’ve seen in this Fanbase. For the first time in my life, I’m ashamed to be a Disney fan. However, I’m not going to let some ignorant people ruin something that I love. What will happen WILL happen. I understand the context, I made up my mind long ago, and I’ll continue to love Splash Mountain for the remainder of its life and forever after. I encourage everyone else in the same boat to do the same. Hate doesn’t win.

The point I’m trying to make I think is being lost, yes plenty of projects have been cancelled and this one is possibly among them but this is under different circumstances.

All the projects everyone keep’s mentioning didn’t have a social movement behind them, political pressure, and the fact that it is an overlay not a new project all together.

I think one issue is that, Disney is distancing itself heavily from Song of the South. Some people likely only know it as the attraction, and know nothing of the movie, and have never seen it, nor had a reason to. It was hot out, its a log flume, they got to sit down, watch a show, and get wet. At the ed of the day its an attraction, very well done ( thank you Tony Baxter) however, Disney is distancing themselves from Song of the South, so none of this surprises me.

I don’t think Splash is racist at all. I’ve said that many times here I love the attraction. I even said (it isn’t) in my OG post. I also agree with you I will always love Splash Mountain and yes this is frankly ridiculous and shouldn’t of happened in the first place. Now that it has happened though I’m just trying to think about what Disney would logically do. Which I outlined.

Never though that was a sarcastic comment about TP2000 if that is the case I take back what I said about TP2000.

Plus it is an IP that actually has relevancy in 2020.

WDWPro didn’t say cancelled. He said postponed indefinitely. That could be 4 years. That could be 10 years. To Disney, it made sense to ANNOUNCE it now. But it just doesn’t make any sense to commit to it financially in Florida, what with the world situation and the current construction at the resort.

Sure, they could shift the budget to immediately fund a complete redo of one of the most popular resorts on property, while they leave Epcot in ruin. But does that make any sense? Knowing that it’s coming eventually is enough for most of the mob. It just doesn’t make sense to go ahead with this till after Epcot is finished.

I agree with this statement this could definitely be a valid point. Epcot needs to be taken care of over a ride that frankly doesn’t need an update in my opinion.

EDIT: That being said I think after 3-4 years people will start asking questions.

Debatable. It has more of what you would call a “cult following”. Disney Movies typically fall out of relevancy after 5 years, unless they are breakout hits like Little Mermaid And Frozen.

Disneylanders complained about ToT until they saw the results. Same thing will happen all over again.

Funny how it didn’t end up happening in Florida though, even though that was the initial plan.

Not to mention the fact that DL’s Tower was pretty unremarkable.

I believe Guardians is the better attraction. BUT and this is a big BUT while this attraction has potential (as I have outlined plenty of times) it is going to be hard to top a classic like Splash. Which I can argue TOT wasn’t viewed like that, and TOT is also still standing in HWS.

Of course, if this actually happens and the new attraction is better I’ll say it.

I would agree with you, but unfortunately that isn’t enough for the people Disney is targeting with this news. If they would do that, they would just throw up SOTS on Disney+.
The biggest mistake Disney ever made was not releasing the film in the Walt Disney Treasures lineup with an opening disclaimer. It’s allowed the public opinion to fester without viewing it, and the film is demonized to a level that it just isn’t anywhere close to being.

Not really a topic here to discuss though. I’d welcome anyone to discuss it on the politics side of the board if you’re interested, and open minded 🙂

I've always been very impressed with the ride system. Probably nothing better.

But the place setting , story, and theming always seemed off to me. It just doesn't mesh and so I am an advocate for an update just on those points.

But, more importantly Disney needs to work on being more relatable for everyone. The current attraction fails that. IMO.

I think if DL got Tiana and DW got the video screen explanation it may calm the "masses"...

That is also very possible. The opposite also is the case. I feel like the damage has been done. I obviously would be fine with just keeping Splash but I don’t see how that would appease people.
