I think a poll is in order. I can't see plenty of people here wanting this.
Nope. definitely not here but this is the number 1,2,3, & 6 trending topics on twitter and there seems to be an overwhelming excitement to see this happen.

Definitely still negative comments but they are fair & few...

I've never been to Disneyland so I can't say how well the re-theme fits the ride's location there, but it makes no sense in Orlando's Frontierland. It just reeks of lazy, condescending, pandering. I don't care that they're taking away the current theme, but why not give Tiana her own new attraction in Fantasyland where it makes sense? If space isn't available for that, how about something in the American Pavillion in Epcot? As the plans stand now, you'll go from the river and Tom Sawyer Island past Big Thunder Mountain to get to a ride that's supposed to take place in the "frontier" of 1920s Louisiana. The era and geography make no sense and Disney is now "honoring" their first Black princess by giving her an attraction that's just a new overlay on an existing ride. But at least the Twitter mob will be placated, I guess.

Well, to be fair, it didn't really fit in Frontierland to begin with.

It is weird to have a flume drop in the dead flat Louisiana bayou -- yes, southern Georgia is flat too, but Atlanta is very hilly and north of Atlanta is mountains -- but the bigger issue is whether Disney will give this the kind of budget it deserves to make something that isn't just a few AAs surrounded by a bunch of screens and projections.

I won't be holding my breath.

In terms of losing my favorite attraction on property with a great theme song and some great storytelling? Super bummed.

BUT, in terms of its necessity with trying to upend deeply rooted issues within our country? Absolutely, this is a wonderful move. Sure, the ride itself isn't explicitly racist. But most racism in the US is exactly like that: subconscious, subtle, and hard to spot. The movie has been shunned by Disney for decades, so I'm honestly surprised that this hasn't happened sooner. PatF is a wonderful, underrated IP that will bring some much needed diversity to the WDW Princess attraction lineup. My hopes are high.

I will be mourning the loss of a beloved attraction like most, don't get me wrong. But I'm able to separate the sadness of the lost attraction as we know it and the joy of losing the underlying inspiration, message, and influences that are a direct influence from Song of the South and its racist pieces.

except for every single person who knew it was connected to Song of the South, or knew about Joel Chandler Harris's stories. and since you'll learn about that connection if you take even five seconds to research the ride--it's in the very first sentence of its Wiki entry--it makes sense to remove that connection altogether.

yeah, I'm worried they'll do a bad job updating this ride. again, it's one of my absolute favorites. but nobody can deny its relationship to that movie, and anybody who doesn't understand why that's troubling to MANY people is being willfully obtuse.
I learned about the connection decades ago and know pretty much everything about it, since it’s my favorite ride. Even as a very young kid, my parents told me how Splash was based on a movie that Disney won’t release and why they won’t release it. SM itself doesn’t have a single thing to do with slavery. I’m not in the “preserve history at all costs for the sake of if” crowd, far from it.

But I’m upset because the pacing of the ride is great, the characters are funny and memorable, the songs are fantastic. Especially the bluegrass renditions of them. Never been a fan of the Jazzy soundtrack that Disneyland has. Everybody’s got a laughin’ place is my all time favorite Disney song due to have catchy it is. Jess Harnell is one of my favorite voice actors and I love his performance as Br’er Rabbit. So no, just because I’m aware of its troubled origin, doesn’t mean I think of the transatlantic slave trade when I ride Splash Mountain

I am so disappointed in the WDC making such a knee-jerk reaction. Disney listened to protestors that most likely never saw the movie, call Uncle Remus a slave even though he was a free-man sharecropper as the movie is actually set in the 1880s so POST CIVIL WAR and are replacing it with a movie that took place in a society which some could argue is even worse unless you think the segregationist South was fun???

Splash Mountain was one of the best if not the best ride ever created by this company. I remember watching it getting built, seeing the final scene from the train when I was to scared to go on the biggest drop for its time, to finally enjoying then loving the ride and sadly will never get to take my 20 month old on the ride.

I will forever miss the great AAs, visuals and songs on Splash Mountain!

I'm CERTAIN that part of this "redesign" will be to remove MANY of the AA's through the entire ride. Which means huge maintenence savings.

This is as much a cost saving move as it is a PR one.

In which case, it will be a disaster.

I'm concerned you'll be proven right when all is said and done, but I'm still going to naively hope that that won't be the case.

Why "manufactured outrage"?

Can you (and others) not accept that some people legitimately find the ride offensive?

Just because you're not offended by something doesn't mean it isn't offensive.

Google trends shows these types of happenings, news stories, and events peak approximately early summer every four years...

Splash Mnt. didn't fit thematically in Frontierland anyway. They should be replacing it with a version of the Western River Expedition and a facelift to the façade to better match the nearby Thunder Mnt. Just my 2 cents. :)
I actually think the re-design looks awesome. I hate how much I love Splash as it was because this would be eaiser but it ties to my childhood. I had no idea about the book or movie then. So many memories. I can't help it. I'm soooooo sad lol. I used to dance around the park singing it wrong "sure beat sugar sha pie" instead of "pretty good sure as your born". 😭😂
