Splash Mountain Question

The down-up dip followed by another downward fall takes you underneather the tracks.

At least, I think so.

No, the down up is on the longer side of the building (parallel to the tracks), and then it turns, drops, and the turns left through the laughing place to head straight up and out the top. the train goes almost right under the drop. The Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah scene is what's below the train tracks... if you've ever noticed in that scene... you can see the viewing window from the railroad.

I believe it's the first drop in the ride, "Slippin' Falls"

(Blue=Outdoor track; Purple=Indoor Track; Red=Drop entering show building)

For reference, this is the drop: (Courtesy of ZapperZ 's photo album)

That's also where they do a lot of parade staging. When my high school band performed there (many) years ago, we set up behind splash and walked backstage toward main st.

There is a small trash facility back there. Its over by the parade gates. There is also a trailer for the Imagineers and alot of the west side painting goes on back there.

Looking at those aerial views, it amazes me how much backstage stuff is just out of view on the other side of trees and facades. The fact that the average human being is just 6 feet tall really works to the imagineers' advantage.

i didn't know it...i thought that the whole ride is inside the building

Here's a better diagram (I hope) that I just cooked up that shows the main show building.

http://webpages.charter.net/steerr/splash.jpg

So, the log makes its way to the top of the mountain, drops down the first drop (into the red splashdown zone). It then enters the main show building, meandering around the upper level (light blue), into the down-up-down drop (yellow), around through the bee cave (dark blue), down the third drop (yellow), and through the Laughing Place on the lower level (purple). It then starts the climb back up into the actual mountain (the roof of the cross-over is just above the red line). As you can see, the log really crosses over the train tracks as it nears the top of the big lifthill (and also while you're circling around the top of the mountain). The logs pass under the railroad tracks just after the load zone as you approach the first lift, and then during the finale scene where you can look up and see the windows to the train tunnel.

One thing I didn't label was the water pit. In the photo you can just see the edge of it above the red line on the far side of the building. The water flow in Splash is (I believe) entirely gravity-driven. Water is pumped to the top of the mountain where it flows through the channels, carrying the boats along. The water then makes its way down and eventually flows out into this large pit backstage.

I've also labeled a few other things on the photo from my memory of my Keys to the Kingdom tour years ago, like the building that the AVAC system dumps into, and the parade storage building. I labeled the two sections where the two parades park, because as I recall, all of the Spectro parades are kept indoors, and the daytime parade was just parked underneath a large roof with mostly-open sides.
