Just walked to SM and it's once again down for an indefinite time...this is starting to become way to familiar...

Ride is in rough shape.

WDW is going down the tubes to be honest... :brick:

I don't know why you bother posting here, to be honest. I consider myself to be fairly critical of WDW, but I don't think I've ever gotten evidence from you that you ever enjoyed it.

I bet its scheduled for Jan. once the new Fantasyland opens. This is just my guess. Unless of course it needs an emergency fix.

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
The ride needs more than a one or two month refurb... It has seen its better days... a 6-8 month refurb is badly needed...

Even though it's a bit far off I'm thinking Splash will get the same treatment thunder got this year come next January

I have to say, this ride IS indeed in horrible shape and needs to be closed ASAP for serious maintenance. But i will also say that in my experience, I've witnessed Splash Mountain break down frequently even when it was brand new and while the parks were still maintained properly (this was before that well-known quality drop that started during the mid-90's). So i'm not sure whether these breakdowns are even a byproduct of the terrible maintenance on the ride or just a normal thing regardless of the condition of the ride.

I've been visiting Disney World since before the ride was there, and have ridden it many times when it was new. In all honesty, it always seemed prone to break downs more so than many of the other rides in the park. It's something i noticed even as a child. Though i will say i don't visit nearly as much as i did as a child so i don't know how often it breaks down these days. My trip this past February it went down for a while (reopened a bit later in the day).

Regardless of this, they desperately need to bring the ride down for a massive overhaul as soon as possible. When they added the lap bars last year, the ride reopened with many of the figures still broken or only partially working. They fixed very little on the ride itself and wasted a ton of time they could have done proper maintenance. So SM has been limping along ever since then. Time for it to get what it deserves. Sadly, I'm guessing it won't be brought offline until next year (after New Fantasyland opens partially). If they even bring it down at all.

Taking into account the crazy low show levels this ride has been operating at for the better part of the past 18 months, having it down might be better.

Splash is my favorite ride in any theme park anywhere, so sad to see it like this.

It would be interesting if we could aggregate the downtime over the course of the past few years and correlate it with the number of post regarding said downtimes here.

I bet we would see a steady rise in one line and a logarithmic rise in the other.

It can get a 6-month rehab that results in every single element working and it won't matter to some people. The first time it goes 101, regardless of the reason, someone will be tweeting or posting about it and there wil be complaints that the rehab was cheap and ineffective.

Is this even a maintenance-related downtime?

For a long time, Splash Mountain was the flagship attraction for WDW. Then EE came along and took over that honor. Both of these attractions have been falling apart for years now and Disney has yet to do anything about it. I often get mad at the Disney bashers on this site, but honestly, their arguments are beginning to make more and more sense. People who are defending Disney on this topic are becoming the minority very quickly. The fact is that Disney will not do anything to fix these problems until it affects their bottom line. If they continue to ignore major problems with their top attractions, I will reconsider visiting the parks every year like I usually do.

And it's back up again. Can't wait for the next thread!

I think Splash gets this treatment because of how badly it has been looking for so long. The show maintenance issues are overwhelming. So when it goes down, the first thing people jump to is maintenance, because we can all see they are falling way short.

It needs it regardless of whether the attraction goes down or not. Even if it can easily be reset and brought back online, the fact still remains that most of the effects and figures in the ride are either not working or only partially working to their fullest.

So no these threads aren't going to stop. Nor should people be happy about the ride's current state, which is abysmal.

There's no disagreement from me that it needs a good fixing-up, but I do not think threads need to be made for routine downtimes that occurred even when the ride was pristine.

I think it is good. Shines a light on the sad state of the attraction every few days or so. Nothing wrong with that.
