Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain Refurb?

I was in Disney at the Beginning of August and Splash was in a bit of bad shape, some of the AAs weren't working and on one occasions one of the AA on the boat in the last scene was down. I mean lying ko'd on the ground. Also what's the deal with the splash. I went on it about 4 or 5 times in my trip and came of almost dry. I then proceeded to laugh about the t-shirts saying things about being drenched and I felt like I wasn't even on a water ride.

If postings on this forum are any indication of general guest response, people don't like to get wet on water rides. Go figure.

Same thing with Kali River the last couple of times I rode it. It's definitely been toned down.

I hope they both are returned to soaking people as they should. They are both thrilling WATER rides.

Now that sounds completely stupid but I agree with you. I don't see the point in why people would go on a Water ride when they don't want to get WET and then complain about getting wet when their is a sign before you even get on the ride that says you will get wet. Some people do need to get a grip and stop moaning about things that are as stupid as this :).

I agree with you on Kali I never got that wet either on that and I was gutted. It was like 105 with humidity on the times I went on.

If they were to close the entire corner (including the train station), wouldn't they just wait a couple of months until the Circusland Station is up?

No way will we ever see 2 of the 3 mountains closed at the same time. At least, not on purpose. There's maintenance and upkeep which is great, but then there's just asking for trouble. You close 2 of the 3 mountains down at the same time, the people who don't read these boards (which is about 95%-99% of all visitors) will be carrying pitchforks and torches down to Guest Relations.

Ya the only way I could see it happening is if TDO announced this over 6 months in advance. That way avoiding most of the backlash since they gave ample warning.

I'm all for refurbs too. Was there about 3 weeks ago and BTMR didn't look too bad to me, but Splash was a disaster. Riding first thing in the AM, there was NO SOUND at all. Really eerie with all the mouths moving but no music or soundtrack.

And I'm surprised that little kids aren;t having nightmares from the riverboat scene at the end. Two of the birds are keeled over and look dead everytime I rode over 10 days!!!

You can see them here in this video, posted in today's Kevin Yee update..

Well I read these boards and if this turns out to be true Virgin Atlantic will be checking in my pitchfork for my January trip. Test Track, Splash and Thunder Mountain added to the building site at Fantasyland and the closure for an upgrade for Fantasmic, all at the same time, is a bit of a kick in the knickers. And don't anyone try to palm me off with the "well that's what you get visiting at the quiet time of the year" drivel. I'll still be paying full whack for my tickets and having shorter queues is irrelevant if there's nothing to queue up for.

WOW! That's bad. I didn't ride splash yesterday, so I didn't get a chance to see it. So did they do ANY general maintenance during the last "refurb" (lap bar installation)?

It always amazes me how many people get on Water rides like Kali, Popeye's bilge rafts, splash mtn, etc. and wear ponchos. For me, the whole purpose of a water ride is to get wet and if it is too cold, i am not going on the water ride. I also find it funny that I was with group of people that wore ponchos during kali but didnt bother to put the ponchos on during the mid afternoon down pour.:hammer:

I rode Splash Mountain twice last week...once on Wednesday and then again on Sunday. Within that time span, nothing that was broken on Wednesday had been fixed by Sunday. Br'er Bear with the honey was static...the lower 'Laughing Place' scene looked like a train wreck...most of the fountains were disabled, the frogs and figures in that scene were broken, and the Zip-a-dee-doo-dah scene had the most apparent problems. The fact that they just left the animatronics just sitting there is completely unacceptable. At least the other broken effects and animatronics were less apparent, but the finale scene was atrocious.

The birds on the Riverboat have been dead like that since August 10. The 3 times I rode during my vacation we saw them and found it disturbing! At least remove them or something. The one in the front right is especially disturbing. The laughing place was also a mess. There was not an arching fountain to be seen the entire length of our stay. So sad to see it like that. Each time i got off I made a point to tell the cast member about the bad show, not that they could do anything about it. I took a picture the last time through but silly me pictures don't show the fact that it was not working right. i was going to email guest relations and attach it. Very disappointing to see my favorite ride in the park in such sad shape.

Isnt test track also rumored to be going down in January? There's no way they'd close 3 e-tickets, even in January.

Disneyland is doing it right now. Haunted Mansion is closed for another week and a half, Indiana Jones is down now (opens in a couple of days), and Pirates comes down tomorrow, re-opens before Thanksgiving. On the ninth, Space Mountain is going down for refurb until the fifteenth.

And it's not as if nothing is being done across the street. In addition to the mess they have at the entrance (which is halting ElecTRONica during September), California Screamin' is closed until mid-October.

Now, Walt Disney World would never do such a thing. But it's not absurd for a park to close 3 E-Tickets simultaneously. Granted, Disneyland is only going to be in this position for about a week, but that's 4 E-Tickets all at one time, in a resort that's supposedly half the size. Sorry, but I take quality over quantity. I'll suck it up if a couple of rides are down, knowing that when I come back, they should be in excellent shape. If nothing ever goes down for refurbishment, everything is just going to get worse. And sometimes you have to close things simultaneously.

As for the legitimacy of the rumors, probably not, because, aside from Splash Mountain's annual refurbishment (which rarely amounts to much, to my understanding), they try to keep rides open for as long as possible, for the most part. Closing two rides in one park is simply a preposterous idea.

The problem with WDW is that routine maintenance is either a foreign concept or horribly executed. Each park has its own troubles that never seem to go away: from Splash, PotC, and BTMRR to TT, ToT, EE and Dinosaur. The problems with these attractions have been well talked about on these boards for years, yet nothing ever changes. There is the rare instance when for a week or two things are fixed but then they go right back to being broken for months.

And even then, daily/weekly maintenance can only go so far. At some point, attractions need to be closed for an extended period of time - and when I say closed, I'm talking once every 2 to 3 years, not 5 to 10. Maybe WDW has such a plan in place, but at this point from a guest perspective, it sure as heck doesn't look like it.

They may have been broken in August 2010, but I'm pretty sure they were working through most of 2011. I didn't notice any of them broken in July. (And I've ridden several times throughout 2011). They are broken again now, though.

I think he / she was meaning to say August 10th.

ARRRR. We visit every other year in January (It's the only time that works for my family). I don't know that I've ridden splash (One of my very favorite rides) in a decade.
