Spirited Spring Break News, Observations & Thoughts ...

The CEO of the publicly traded company being swapped would not go without official acknowledgements and notices. I think that should be telling enough :)

True, but MiceAge is a rumour and unofficial news site. So you would expect them to break the news before it was officially and publicly announced. And rumours of Phillipe leaving had been discussed in the media only last year ;)

Their status as an independent publicly traded animation studio causes a lot of unnecessary pressure. Not every film is a huge hit, and their shareholders seem to expect that. I could have told you Mr. Peabody & Sherman wasn't going to be a big hit - it's pretty obvious.

All of this will be calmed when Dragon 2 is released in June and is a huge hit, but they would certainly do well to be purchased by a huge studio. Would get the dogs off.

I wonder how much longer Katzenberg can keep the dogs at bay, for him personally. They are barely running a 50/50 success rate. I have to imagine that Fox is frustrated as well with DWA performance.

It was never canon.

"I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions."
―George Lucas

You can't go by anything Lucas says. Dude is a compulsive liar. On top of that he used Expanded Universe stuff in his own movies like Coruscant, Quinlan Vas, Aayla Secura and the Witches of Dathomir in The Clone Wars cartoon series. He closely worked on Shadows of the Empire and Force Unleashed and even had references to shadows in Star Wars special edition.

Disney are most likely waiting to find out the opening date for Diagon Alley before giving its own date.

An interesting stand-off, then, since Universal is almost certainly stalling their announcement in order to eclipse Mine Train's opening.

The facades look pretty close to being done. One notable piece that hasn't been installed yet: the dragon on Gringotts.

Did those goobers use tilt-shift for ALL their footage?!

Actually there have been rumors that DreamWorks live action will close and Stacey Snider will run Fox Filmed Entertainment. Certainly wouldn't be a stretch they sell DWA to Fox and Katzenberg gets to run 21st Century Fox.

Also on HTTYD 2, I think it will do Frozen level business thanks to the lack of animated family films this summer from Pixar and Illumination.

But you are correct, those three parks are all closer to one another than DLR and WDW are to each other. But aren't there still big cultural issues that would prevent Chinese and Japanese tourists from traveling with one another?

Not even Chinese and Japanese, but Hong Kong vs Mainland Chinese don't get along as well as you'd expect.

Philippe Gas is staying in place. Mr. Daniel Delcourt is not taking his place, but will have a substancial role in Paris. I don't want to say too much for now until it get announced.

Anyone else wondering how much longer Katzenberg can keep DWA a solo company? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/dreamworks-animation-takes-57m-impairment-699590

How much longer can he keep giving the same spiel? And who would buy him out? Fox, Sony and Uni all see to have placed their bets on other horses.
which is a shame as peabody was a very cute kids movie (also for some parents)

Turbo was fun, but I suppose it didn't attracted people due of the story or race issues?

they still have a HUGE HOLE to fill. As expectations are really high for that movie (due of the great success of the first)

That Miceage paragraph is so depressing. They're basically saying nothing new for any
of the North American parks, and what has been announced is being cut back.

So, people here are questioning the credibility. But--honestly--has anyone, including our
much beloved insiders here, had a great track record, lately? Disney has been doing a
great job keeping things sealed as tight as a drum, it would seem. Or information isn't
being divulged due to, perhaps, a climate of fear surrounding the leakers?

Even our beloved Spirit had a post about a large Star Wars announcement a while back,
and nothing materialized. And his track record is pretty solid. It seems the sands shift
far too quickly these days.

And perhaps we just have to get used to the parks being considered 'a mature business' that
Disney feels can bring in money without any major additions. Epcot is a giant restaurant and
shopping mall (Spirit's comparison calling it 'Pleasure Island' had a sickening resonance), DHS
waits for, I don't know, some Star Wars cash to come in, MK is done for many years, DAK
gets one Avatar ride, and oh, did we mention a new shopping mall is getting lots of love,
because it's basically all rental property. DVC for restaurant and retail chains.

I try to be optimistic. I sneak in a few drops of pixie dust here and there to try to keep my
glass half full, but Disney does their best to evaporate them faster than I can add them.

Heavy sigh.

Wasn't the Star Wars land postponed because of MM+?

Also in regards to Star Wars, I'm a little sad I don't see Lupita Nyong'o on that list! Maybe she will be in it as a smaller role, but I heard she was up for a part! I love her...

Also regarding Star Wars casting, I'm a little worried about Andy Surkis being in the cast...I don't care what they do with the new movies, I just don't need a Jar Jar Binks 2.0 running around...LOL

Agree everyone is frothing at the mouth that he's in it & I have no idea the attraction

It seems that most Mocap characters look and are crap. Either Serkis is very good or he has had some great animators/FX people on the movies that he has been in. The final product of Gollum and Caesar are head and shoulders above the rest of the Mocap industry. His characters don't cross into the uncomfortable uncanny valley like Beowulf, Mars Needs Moms and Polar express. Jar Jar sucked the big one and was not a Mocap as far as I know. To borrow a famous tag line, in Mocap "It's Serkis or nothin".

It's already been announced that its Joe Schott leaving and Daniel Delcourt is taking his position. That news was released yesterday after the article had been posted to the site MiceAge. The point being made is at the time it could have been suggested by the poor wording that it was Phillipe leaving...

Yes, what he has done so far no doubt has been incredible. I just pray that it works for the film, unlike jar jar. His city and people were cool, but his cartoony voice and slapstick actions had no business in a film like star wars. I felt each of his scenes reminding me of watching Saturday morning cartoons!

Now where is my big Lupita Nyong'o announcement of joining the cast??? After digging around some sites, I learned that whatever role she is up for its down to her and one other actress! I really hope she gets it! I love her!

No argument with anything you said, but I'd add he played a non-mocap role in The Prestige and was quite good. He and Van Sydow make me feel better about this movie than I did over the weekend.

Then again, Lucas had Neeson, MacGregor, Jackson and Portman in TPM and still managed to make a bad movie...
