You make a good point.

Six Flags has different aesthetical aspirations. It may be out of place in a Disney park, but at Six Flags leaving stuff bare and exposed actually adds to the theming:

My 4 year old would lose her . Beats the heck out of princesses any day.

For a land to be fully immersive, it can't have a bare coaster.
I think "fully immersive", i.e. indistinguishable from a real land outside of a theme park, is taking it too far.

For example: If Frontierland was "fully immersive" based on the theme of the Old West, half of the items sold in the restaurants wouldn't exist, the ground wouldn't be paved, and, perhaps most importantly, FP+ kiosks wouldn't be placed anywhere in the land.

I think we can agree that a theme park isn't supposed to be "fully immersive", at least by that definition. So IMO, bare coaster track isn't that big of a step away.

There is a subtle punchline though: The exit area has the fallen outlines of the Fantastic Four on the ground. Doom actually won.

That's actually not the Fantastic Four. It's just supposed to be other test subjects. But yes, the imprints are there. Great detailing.

The giant characters were a poor choice. But the land is full of amazing details for fans. There are so many great little touches.
I can see what you mean by the references for the fans and I do love the marvel movies but not the comics. The large figures make it look cheap

Actually, yes it does. But I am not going to get into the Realism vs. Impressionism argument again. Have fun riding your trains around a mountain.

I've said it before, but for all the imagination Disney fans have and claim to have, their ability to hold their nose up because a ride system doesn't cater to them* and refuse something that is so clearly visible to others rivals none when it comes to roller coasters. And it isn't just realism vs. impressionism, its also watching the story vs. being (in) the story. Hulk is a great example of both styles.

*I realize some who I'm covering with the generalization like coasters, and that confounds me even more.

Oh, and Dave, I am glad you brought up Universal's entertainment. Fear Factor, Sindbad's, and Beetlejuice all need to be replaced. But the Horror Make-up Show is one of the best theme park shows there is.

In all the years of Universal I never had seen the Horror Make-Up Show until this January. Just like you said, it's terrific. Truly one of the most entertaining theme park shows that I've ever seen. I was absolutely impressed by the actors and I guess you'd say their energy. They were just really into their roles and it was quite entertaining. This coming from someone who typically bemoans stage shows at parks.

I wouldn't mind their removal if they were replaced with more theming. But I'd hate for the place to just look like New York. The cut-outs may be tacky. But they make the place look comic-booky. Comics are a 2-dimensional medium, so the cut-outs kind of fit.
This is also true. Maybe just removing some of them, but not all of them. Like, keeping Spidey at The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and Dr. Doom at Dr. Doom's Fear Fall. Then just removing all of the ones pinned onto the buildings... Of course, the walk-around super heroes would still stay, amongst other things.

The first time I saw the Horror Make Up Show I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.

There's a reason I see that more often than not when I swing over to Universal, but avoid Sindbad like a bad case of the plague. That show...seriously, at least re-write the darn thing and don't try to make it into a pop culture joke hold-over for the Bill & Ted fans. Talk about forced dialogue!
