I think 3 theme parks and a water park as well as an expanded citywalk would be ideal for a weeks worth. Knowing Universal they'd at least make the third park a full day place...which I really can't say about WDWs third and fourth gates.

A third park, if it were to be a full day park, would bring Universal on par with Disney on the "Things to do" count.

No matter how often I attempt to make DHS or AK a full day affair, I always end up spending a few hours at those parks and then go to another Disney park. You can easily do AK and DHS in a single day if you start at AK.

Where Disney went crazy in my opinion was spreading out so much thru their resort...having 20+ hotels...two half day parks and only one or two modes of transportation between everything. That's a lot of infrastructure to have to keep up and deal with.
Universals layout is very convenient, and whatever they do to add on I would hope they'd keep it close by...and only add maybe 2 or 3 more hotels.

Yeah I think Universal has the benefit of less land so if everything stays within relative walking distance, a lot of that transportation/infrastructure becomes minuscule in the grand scheme. Personally, I hope it all stays relative walking distance, that's a huge perk above Disney in my book.

Absolutely, I love the feeling of being totally immersed in Walt Disney World when I arrive on property, but going between the parks is tedious at best and downright annoying at worst.

Whenever I go to UOR, I hop between both parks at will, and it never felt annoying or tedious.
Well, one time I was pushing my girlfriend in a wheelchair, and the hump going past the HRC was awful

I wouldn't mind a third park... eventually... but only after they've done everything they can with the current parks, and only if they have enough good ideas to fill an entire park. One thing I definitely don't expect from Universal is a new park with an hour's worth of attractions. So at least there's that.
agree JT..finish jurassic park and add new land to USF in between MIB and simpsons with a kidszone redo

Infrastructure and transportation to me would be the big problem that would have to be solved even with just adding a waterpark and another hotel. I imagine they don't want to go down the bus route and the local governments wouldn't be to thrilled. It would be hilarious if they ended up building some type of light rail/shuttle/monorail system that connected the entire resort together. That would be a big selling point over WDW.

Did that actually get built??? I'm not thinking a water park in the Muslim world would work real well???? Dubai isn't hard core but it's still very different from the US or Europe or Asia or South America. Hard to water slide when you can't show your wrists or ankles.

Just looked it up and it is open. Looks nice.
That park is open....and it looks pretty sweet. I'd like to see Uni build a park with that many slides, but better theming.

They've got double the slides Blizzard Beach has!

Bump.

I figured I'd bump this thread in regards to the information today provided by NBCUniversal CEO Steven Burke. For those that aren't aware, Steven Burke attended and spoke at an investment conference in Beverly Hills, CA (The Merrill Lynch one where Jay Rasulo will speak at tomorrow). In his presentation, he outlined parst of UNI's aggresive expansion plan towards its Parks and Resorts. Key Details shared with the audience included:

-10,000 or 15,000 hotel rooms on the way (when I suppose is the big question)
-Burke said attendance at Universal Studios Florida, one of the two theme parks at Universal Orlando, has been up about 20 percent "most weeks" since Transformers opened in June.
-Burke said NBCUniversal has elevated capital spending in its theme parks to about $500 million this year — an amount that is likely to become an annual baseline in the future
-The company's goal is to open one new attraction every year at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood in California, Burke said.

So while it didn't hint at a third gate or a waterpark, it at least gave us an idea that more hotels and attractions (most of them probably E tickets) are coming to the UNI Orlando parks. Reading the article makes you realize/see the different business philosophies/models Disney and UNI have towards their Orlando parks' future. @WDW1974, you were right. You deserve all the credit!

Just to be clear, the 10,000-15,000 is not the number being added, it's the final number they want. As of now they have 2,400 between their 3 resorts, with 1,800 being added with Cabana Bay. That means they'll have 4,200 after next year.
