Universal are looking at it - depends on whether they can get the rights or not...

Not sure how well that would work....can't grip my head around it for some reason.

Any chance of a Lord of the Rings area/World? I wonder if WDW or Uni is even eye balling this Franchise. Maybe dreamin'!

I don't think Lord of the Rings, as expansive as its history and world is, could ever be translated well into a literal theme park existence.

MIB is my FAVORITE RIDE!!!!! And also my favorite movie franchise. I love shootin me some alien scum! So as long as it is relocated, I'm with ya ;)

I really enjoy the ride (the franchise is so-so to me) but I wasn't knocking the ride as much as I was thinking about the opportunity to continue the themeing and add two timeless franchises to the park. (Not to mention that during HHN you have built in Jack the Ripper area).

I really like the MIB ride and Bond I could see, possibly Sherlock but you talking old school Sherlock or the new version??? Jack the ripper????? You going to have an area devoted to a guy who killed hookers and hacked them up????? Little heavy for a theme park don't you think??? I guess for HHN but it might be a little to real for people.

Actually, Howl-o-Scream already had a Jack the Ripper house, Ripper Row, while HHN used him as a tie-in to the Body Collectors.

Of course, I don't see such an expansion happening, and I've heard the London area will be off limits for HHN.

Well personally I'd go for some sort of original timeless version of Sherlock, there have been so many people play him I don't think it'd matter ... although I'm sure Uni would want RDJ to do it ... either way, it's a timeless character that I think you could do something interesting with.

As for Jack the Ripper, someone beat me to it but the only reason I mentioned him is because he's been at HHN.

This is my favorite thread right now because the possibilities are endless and with Uni, right now, anything seems possible ...

Here's one thought I had ... what is the rights situation to Wizard of Oz? I wonder if Uni could get those from MGM and beat Disney to the punch and put an Oz land in ... I think people would definitely adore that.

After this last movie no thank you, I much rather see a condensed version of Wicked replace Twister or T2.

Well I didn't see that movie (looked horrible to me) I was thinking the original really ... but OMG Wicked would be fabulous ... I thought there was some rumor that a condensed version of Wicked was coming to the parks?

Universal holds the rights to Wicked (they're one of the Broadway producers), and based on how that material treats the MGM film, I doubt they'd be able or willing to secure the theme park rights to that version as well. When Oz Land was at USJ, it was a public-domain version of Oz with a shortened Wicked musical.

Exactly. If Universal wanted an Oz land, they could do one, it just wouldn't be the classic MGM look.

So @HTF ... let me ask you this then ... all the things that Spirit said ... what do you think about it? Heard similar things? Timetables? Etc ...

The current time table looks something like this from all the rumors and news rounded up.

2012 DM, Parade, Cinespec
2013 TF, Springfield, New Chassis for Rockit Trains, upgrades to select shows for 2013 and 2014
2014 Potter, Cabana Bay, New IOA Show, Major Ride Refurb planned for early in year before Potter crowds
2015 Jurassic Park Expansion and Fear Factor Replacement
2016 Kidszone Project

We can pretty much expect a new addition to one park each year for the rest of the decade from what I've heard. Creative is on OVERDRIVE and not just with Orlando. Thats one thing everyone has to remember there also working on entire new parks around the world, massive expansion projects to every resort they have, and TONS of blue sky being reviewed and revised by new owners Comcast.

Past 2015
New Hotels
Water Park
Expansion to CityWalk

There have been numerous talks of land acquisition and a third gate but its all blue sky and everything would have to fall into place perfectly and at the right price to make it happen. But here is whats interesting from what I've heard. As I mentioned they are planning on adding major attractions each year to turn these parks into full day destinations. Once you build your current parks up and they sustain 9-10 million visitors a year each then that third gate really comes into focus.

Finally I will say that the future is so bright with Universal and as fans we will be busy in the Universal sections of every forum on every site for many years to come. This is just the tip of the sword in a new era of the theme park wars.
