Spielberg's power over Universal...

With the recent news about Marvel this has got to sting Universal since Spielberg also has contracts with Disney and from what I hear a better working relationship. Disney could certainly use their relationship with Spielberg to hit Universal even harder.

Before I get called a fanboy I do not wish for Universal's demise. I stayed at Loew's Royal Pacific in May for a conference and I loved it. I had a blast at IOA, Universal proper and city walk. I'm just saying that if Disney wanted to kick Universal while they were down they sure could.

Universal does not need Spielberg. He has been of no use in recent years. If he demands a buy out, they'll pay. If he decides to help Disney in some way, good for them. Universal will still own almost all of the good intellectual properties he's ever created. With that said, Universal is still negotiating with him.

The only problem Spielberg currently poses is what happens with his cash-bleeding contract... it's not like he's been doing much consulting the past few years.

When did he last have a good or even half decent film release? Cant blame him for living on long past glorys, as they were ground breaking in their time.

I agree with you but I'm just curious if his owed debt is enough to hurt Universal. I think it would be an unprofessional thing to do at a time when Universal is about to open a hyped and soon to be popular attraction (Harry Potter) which is why I think he won't try and get it.

While I wholeheartedly respect the man for all he's done, um... well, some of you may know where this led.

(Though in the special features, you can almost sense Spielberg wanting to blame most of the film on George Lucas. It's fun. :lol: )

Now why would we want that? IMHO, the better Universal is, the harder Disney has to work. Competition is the best thing for all of us. Disney crushes Universal and they get to sit back and enjoy the run. Who possibly would push Disney to be better and better if Universal didn't do it? It's a win win for us all if Universal continues to be a good park... :shrug:

It's because most Disney fans have an irrational hatred of Universal.
