Spider-Man Upgrades

I wish I and others knew more. Glad it was helpful! I have yet to meet anyone who can honestly tell me it is not the greatest, or one of their favorite theme park rides ever. So much detail.

Totally agree, I always think when I am there "It's just Spiderman, it's not that great" after riding it I say "It's the greatest ride ever!"

Julie Taymour should get in on that. Fire and injuries and Jazz hands. I'm down with that....Well....the Jazz hand anyway.

The new and improved character designs have me psyched. Thought we were just getting clearer screens, but this will almost feel like a new ride if all the characters are that improved.

Hey JT, thanks for that picture... I like it.. I really like it.. I think this upgrade is going to make a fantastic ride even better... And will keep it ranked number 1 for me, with FJ second as my favorite rides...

The new Spider-Man opened yesterday, with new 4K HD animation, new 3-D glasses, a new soundtrack and more.

Here's the grand re-opening ceremony:

And here's a POV video (watch in HD):

Miscellaneous notes:

- The ride has been completely reprogrammed with new movements.
- The on-board audio system has been upgraded from 8 channels to 16.
- Stan Lee makes three separate appearances during the ride.
- The entrance area and queue have been refurbished, with some new details.

I rode it yesterday...I have to say the new animation is excellent! I also liked Stan Lee's appearances. Now, I absolutely HATE the new soundtrack. It just sounded corny and...off. Give me the older, rockier soundtrack any day. Also, the ride seems way less intense, especially in the spinning tunnel. Another minus in the update.

Footage looks awesome.... Good job!

They didn't have to do this so hats off to them for doing so.

I miss the old soundtrack already though.

Checked it out tonight. Crowds were heavy, but Spiderman was the only reason I went so I didn't mind.

Thoughts:
- the screens look amazing! What I didn't know was that the new screens would be using the same type of new 3D glasses that Star Tours is using. If I had to compare the footage to Star Tours, I'd say that Star Tours looks more "real", but Spiderman is more clear.
- The vehicles have been re-fitted with a new and very impressive speaker setup. The onboard audio now sounds like its actually from around the vehicle and not just in the vehicle.
- New sound effects have been added to go with the new tweaks to the screen scenes and modified vehicle motions. For example, whenever the vehicle whips around, you now hear the vehicle's engine revving and tires squealing below you. Great stuff!
- The vehicle movements have been adjusted and seemed more aggressive than before, but I'm not sure on this one.
- The ride looks completely fresh and brand new.

My only somewhat negative comment is the new soundtrack, I don't feel that it fits somehow. It attempts to be somewhere between dubstep/techno and dramatic movie score, but it doesn't fit the goofy tone of the ride. I felt that the chugging rock soundtrack worked much better... though I don't think anyone riding for the first time would find anything wrong with the new music.

Overall, Kudos to Universal for making one of their best rides even better when they didn't even really have to.
