Spending money....

So I'm wondering how much money I should budget for our trip for just spending money at the parks for the kids to get a shirt, hat, souvenir type things that they are bound to see. I have three kiddos.

T-shirts range from about 19.99 to 24.99 for your typical t-shirt, kids or adults. Caps are in the 14.99 to 24.99 range depending on the cap and its popularity/styling. About the same as anywhere else you go nationwide. Souvenirs range from cheap (a couple bucks) to ludicrous (hundreds for collectors items). Don't forget to add in extras for glow-in-the-dark toys when they seem them at the evening fireworks and events (Fantasmic in particular seems to almost require one under the age of 12 to pine for something that glows, spins, or emits some type of annoying light)...balloons (Don't get one if you took a plane to WDW since they can't take them home on the plane so you can let them know right up front that balloons are dead out)...Mickey ear caps...and for some reason, younger kids REALLY get attracted to those weird Goofy and Donald Duck caps with ear flaps...

Last time we went we budgeted $100 per kid - for take home items it worked out well - as they all wanted some toys to bring home, hats and/or ears and lanyards with pins. This trip we are thinking around $100 from chores (have to teach them early) and $50 from their own savings - they are saving their birthday money - as they remember that they wanted more but "the budget had no more money." I think this helps for them to understand that it takes us a long time to save for the trip and give some responsibility. My children are 10, 8 and 6 when we travel this fall - not sure how old yours may be but we found ours loved collecting and trading pins and getting them started was not cheap. However, I found it to be the best souvenir as our children love to show everyone their "sashes" of pins from Disney.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the input! I was imagining a couple hundred per kid by the time the 8 days is up so I think that should be about right!

Each of my kidlets got a $50 Disney Gift Card in his/her Easter basket (coolest EB ever!!). Aside from that, they've known for months that any other spending money comes from their allowance.

I have it set up so that each time I get paid, their allowance goes directly into their bank accounts, so it makes it easy for them to save. They're allowed to use it, if they want, but I've promised I'm not wavering. If they spend it, that gift card is all they get.

I'm totally lying and would end up bending, but they don't know that (probably), so they all have plenty of money saved with six weeks to go.

We're using garage sale earnings for our spending money this year, so that averages out to about $125/kid, one of whom will blow most of his at the lego store I think ;) DH and I are averaging around 50-65 each. There isn't much I really want, maybe a mug and possibly a bag. I always seem to buy a Mickey bag when I'm down there.

What about budgeting for the adults who want the GitD items?
I love them and usually get a necklace or some headwear thing at every amusement park I go to. :)

Since I'm a kiddo at heart, I am asking my family to get me Disney gift cards for my trip since my birthday comes in between now and my trip to WDW!!! So dang excited!
But yes, I would allow $25 per item...if those items are T-shirts and hats. There is so much to choose from though!
