Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

Got a great view of the old station last week thanks to someone setting the Earth projector on “torch mode”.
It's honestly super distracting how bright it is, isn't it? 180top is so bright thanks to it. But it's great since you get to see so much of what should be hidden, space station and random boxes/storage included. Bums me out it was down for nearly the entire day I was back in Epcot again. I wanted to give Night Sight on the Pixel a try again. Should've been able to pull off some great pictures without a flash.

You need to be very steady and still...movement will cause Night Sight to just be a blurry mess. If the ride stops while you are in 180top, it would likely work, though.

Oh yes, I know that. I pulled off some decent-ish pictures while moving: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8BzuRUu7RnbWk39h7
But then you have...this... https://photos.app.goo.gl/6NqAj1v3eiWwyyEm7
Still super proud of these two shots since it was essentially pitch black out: https://photos.app.goo.gl/PHqtKKUsFgjyzuUj7 and https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y8frFeuLJ3b7ahTr7

I had a couple ideas to get the shots, mainly sitting in the back of a car and looking left when it spins you to face the earth. That probably would've worked. It's still some pretty decent magic to get shots like that from a phone without tweaking settings.

Very nice! I really want one of those phones, but I also want to stay married, so I'm going to have to hold off on that. ;)

Depending on the phone, you can sideload the app. I have it on my Essential PH-1 and it works extremely well. The processing in the dark is almost entirely dine in the app and with google services. Its a really impressive implementation of computing power.

Over the 2, it's a meh upgrade but luckily you can get Night Sight on the 2 and get some pretty close quality to the 3. The 3 is pretty nice overall though. Video still sucks compared to the iPhone though

Thread Bump! I just want to thank @marni1971 and all the others who made this fantastic thread. I've spent my last few days being enthralled by the info and pictures. It's the main reason I made an account on here. My sort of open ended question is: What can we expect from version 5, and what would you like to see?
A decent Script and an actual ending.

I don't recall if this was in one of @marni1971's videos but this popped up today:

And the image itself in case someone can't view it for whatever reason:

Just imagine something like this pulled off with todays tech...

I think the only photo we're missing now is what the AA looks like inside the window. I hear she was skinned and is just mechanical parts . Does that mean her face mask is removed too? Pretty creepy.

It really sucks this scene was removed in the 1994 version.

I think the AA woman in the window had audio as well. In the original 1982 narration, as one passed thru the space station scene, it sounds like you hear communication chat between the woman in the window discussing the payload of the satellite parts with the astronaut hanging from it.

There was indeed dialogue as referenced by live audio recordings. I’ve yet to find actual video of the scene pre 1986 so if it was sync audio I don’t know.

All Cronkite era video I’ve seen shows her arm(s) animated. So she did have some movement.

It would be cool if someone was able to get an up close pic of the skinned animatronic that’s still up there. We’ve yet to find a good quality photo from a 4ft type range of her in her original state but @marni1971 has found quite a few farther away photos throughout the course of this thread. I think this photo below is the closest we’ve gotten to her so far (courtesy of Martin of course):

Looking at the pictures, animated arms could be as little as moving the controls back and forth, and having the arms react as a inverse kinematic puppet. It's not a particularly... advanced animatronic

She had head and arm movement. If I recall correctly, the arm movement was the levers, not the AA. She did have dialogue as part of the track, chatting with the astronauts. My admittedly hazy recollection is she was always moving, not sync’d, but you really couldn’t tell.

It’s very odd listening to the Perrin tracks and hearing dialogue in 180top. Either it was cut in 1986 or Tomorrow’s Child drowned it out.

Or more likely the audio system in 180top was repurposed for music since there wasn’t really any from 82 to 86.

Thank you for your memories. Like much of EPCOT Center the early details are starting to disappear forever.
