I just feel like if there's a smart phone app that is more advanced than the ride technology (especially in a park meant to show us the future), it's time to update. The whole photo capture video thing on the journey back was cool the first time when the refurb first re-opened, but I always felt like it was a cop-out by Disney. I want to be wowed with animatronics & special effects, not Snapchat.

We rode it a few times last month and everything worked properly that I can remember, the picture and all.

Thank you.

The futureworld series should start in March.
Kinda OT but I take it you have a YouTube channel where your videos are shared? What's the name of you don't mind?

Sorry to advertise, but martinsvids.net is the best bet for all my videos off of Vimeo. YouTube and my videos don't always agree. But on YouTube I'm martinsvidsdotnet

I think the next updated version of Spaceship Earth should be a collaboration with both Judi Dench and Jeremy Irons, like the double narration they had done for Horizons. Then they should bring back some futuristic ideas from Horizons (and animatronics) and stick them in the golf ball. Just my thoughts on this.

From my experience, the picture at the beginning has always been hit and miss. Some TLC is likely in order. That attraction runs about 12 hours a day, 365 days a year. That's over 4,000 hours per year, which does lead to some wear and tear.

More interestingly, Who should replace Judi Dench?

Benedict Cumberbatch would be truly awesome. A nod to Dr. Who, with Matt Smith, Tom Baker, David Tennant or Peter Capaldi would be great. Good arguments could be made for Derek Jacobi, Kenneth Branagh, Ming Na Win, Isabella Rosalini, Carrie Fischer (alas, not meant to be), Tilda Swinton, Allen Rickman (alas, also not meant to be) Benedict Wong, Glenn Close, Michael Gambon, Samual Jackson, Bill Nighy, and on and on and on.

Got to admit, Judi Dench has always been a bit school marmish to me. Personally, I think they should change it up ala Star Tours, with different narrators switching off during the day. Cumberbatch one time, Nighy the next, and Tilda Swinton the next. That will keep the guests coming back. Of course, the attraction is plenty popular even with the same narrator every time. No big need to change it up, I suppose, but it would still be great.

Make it Iago and Anger. I'd love to hear Gilbert Gottfried and Lewis Black do the voice over work.

Couldn't disagree more. I understand your point, but I think that would be more irritating than epic.

To me, SE has been a very classy and immersive attraction that transcends characters and the usual Disney Intellectual Property. I'm sure Iago and Anger would be entertaining, but SE is really beyond that, especially the older narrations. Jeremy Irons came in with a time traveler's awe of human history that seems to be missing with Judi Dench. You felt he's been there, or at least traveled to all those places like the painted cave walls, or at least deeply studied them. The current narration really comes off as a classroom history lesson. I want more than my 5th grade teacher. I want to be transported somewhere completely different. Iago and Anger would be akin to the Mexican boat ride becoming a hyper bird attraction, which is still popular, but not as deep. Entertaining, but not as respectful of Mexico.

Here's an interesting idea, change it up. Have it epic with someone like Cumberbatch with the big music and everything, but then change it up to be lighter with Iago and Anger another time. Maybe have a morning SE, afternoon SE, and nighttime SE, all with different music and narrations. It would interesting to see how the experience changes with a mere difference in sound, with lighting and AAs all being the same.

I don't get the hate for the Judi Dench rendition...I quite enjoy the texture of her voice and her narration....

I really enjoy her voice. The problem I have is with the script ("...call it the first backup system"). Someone in Imagineering tried to get cute and cutting edge, but it just makes the narration seem trite.

I agree 100%. Her voice isn't the biggest problem, it's the narration and the tone. It's more teacher instead of traveler. My kids go to school in part to get away from the classroom, not to return to it.
