Spaceship Earth - Silent Descent

I wish that they put headphones on the ride vehicles.

My idea on that would be that after getting in the vehicle, you would put on the headphones. Before the ascent started, you get to choose which narration/music you would like to listen to in the entire ride via the touch screen. If you chose one of the older narrations/themes, the screen would go black.

Headphones would be gross, especially during the summer heat. Guessing Sounds Dangerous was the last time headphones will be used in an attraction. However it would be fun to be able to personalize the audio.

Well, maybe not headphones, but what if they were able to designate each car to get a selection screen during the ascent to where when everyone in the car selects their preferred audio and soundtrack....and then..well, majority rules.;)

Bluetooth, everything is better with bluetooth! You could use your own buds. Now we just gotta get some company to pay for it.......

I was thinking more along the lines of riding Spaceship Earth while wearing VR goggles & headphones and watching one of @marni1971 's Tribute videos. :D
See I was thinking something along the lines of this too, but have this experience at home. I would purchase a chair from an old simulator ride and program it (because I would be a genius in my universe) to simulate the ascent, the turn around, and the descent sequence. That way I can have the experience of riding the good old rides from back when with the VR and a chair that moves and fully immerses myself in Disney's golden years at home with @marni1971 vids.

I can dream it, but I don't think I can do it.

No offense at all to @marni1971 , but you probably wouldn't want to use his videos in their current form for VR. They jump and zoom into small details constantly. A straight through, no edit, ride video would be better but you'll still be missing out on the full 360 effect of VR. Moving your head around when what you're seeing doesn't move, can get disorienting fast. What I'm saying @marni1971 , go invest in a professional, full 360 camera setup that records in 32k and then this will work :p

It's probably a dead project now, but someone was doing a Imagination remake in Unity: http://jbiimagination.wixsite.com/jbii
I can't find it (probably dead also), but someone was working on a Horizons sim also on Unity. They did a demo a couple years ago with a DK1 Oculus Rift. These are both what you'd want since they will give you depth as well as better detail then a video, as long as the creator did their job and your PC isn't weak.
There's also this: http://www.noacco.net/immersarium/

And if this person ever releases this for NoLimits 2, you'll have a perfect DLP Space Mountain that will have VR support:

There's a recreation of DL's SM as well, but that was on NoLimits 1 and would need some rework due to the slightly changed physics and (mainly) lighting engine.
Stage 9 is also excellent example of this but for Star Trek, http://stage-9.co.uk/

VR is so yesteryear now.

However, I did just spend today recreating a virtual circlevision recreation of the 1982 version of O' Canada...

Even though I have the Oculus Rift, it's still hard to see where it will go. The games that are great for VR, are amazing (Gorn, NoLimits 2, H3VR, and Payday 2 to name a few). Then you have your "5 minute" hack jobs selling for $50 that ruin the look of VR. I think it'll do well but it does need that Gen 2 upgrade and price reduction to the the GP in on it. PSVR seems to be doing very good for what it is. I cringe when people say they tried VR and say it was crap. What did they try it on? Oh, their cell phone. Ugh. Luckily Best Buy (here in the US) does Oculus demos.

If it works on the Rift, I'll gladly give it a test.
