Spaceship Earth overhaul

I will say this...I am all for a total overhaul of Spaceship Earth, you knew it was bound to happen someday. Look at it this way, the amount of money that Disney is probably going to put into it (IF it does actually happen) is going to be exponential. And Disney does have a pretty darn good track record with very expensive new attractions (keep Test Track opinions to yourselves) Plus, do you really think Disney would replace Spaceship Earth with some half-assed B ride, Im thinking no, it would ________ too many people off. If it does happen, it will be great. Bring on Time Racers.

If they're using DisneySea level technology, odds are this will be a great new addition to Epcot. It almost certainly guarantees that this attraction will have a large, more than ample budget.

Right now we pretty much know NOTHING- far too early to be getting upset. And who knows...it could turn out to be something good! Best to wait and see...getting upset gets us nowhere.

Honestly, I really don't think Disney will take the risk to close such a symbolic attraction as Spaceship Earth. I'm sure they can imagine how people would react if this was even suggested.

*sigh* and what do I have to say about this? A big load of baloney. I find it very unlikely that they would raze the inside of spaceship earth and replace it with some new-fangled concept when the attraction gets enormous crowds to begin with (as far as slow rides go--nothing compares to the enormous queues of test track). I see this coming to epcot someplace else other than spaceship earth.

Does the SE structure even have the proper foundation to support these simulator pods? When they move, they carry quite a bit of momentum with them.

While the SE structure has to support the massive weight, there isn't much shift in the weight. The ride system moves very slow, and very consistantly.

I said it there, and I will say this here.

I will believe this when I see a CAVE attraction at GMR. Until then, I don't think this will happen.

Whatever they do with it it better be an attraction the ENTIRE family can enjoy. Spaceship Earth is the icon of the park. When people think of Epcot, they think of the "Ball".

Imagine taking your kids down to Epcot from Minnesota only to get there and be told they are too short to ride in the "Ball". That would be like telling them they couldn't go in the castle at Magic Kingdom of the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom.

This would be an awful mistake.

This reminds me of the last few scenes from National Lampoon's Vacation when they find out Wally World is closed!

Well, I'm from Minnesota and when I go to the Tree of Life my whole family wishes they'd make those little kids not be brought in. Seriously, everytime we're in there families (often foreign families) bring the smallest children in there thinking everything will be fine... Ain't nothin worse than the sound of a cryin kid when you're just trying to enjoy being an 'honorary bug'.

By the way... No where in the article is ANY mention of it being a thrill ride. Hell, if it were known as Time Racers now and the Spaceship Earth rumor came out as the changed name everyone would think spaceship earth would be a thrill ride by the title.

Don't ASSume.

Scar,

See the other thread about me kicking your ASSume. Of all of the discussion in these threads and elsewhere, the conversation goes back toward some kind of thrill ride. I am suggesting that this may not be the best situation.

Well the original article in question says it will be a family ride because Test Track is a thrill ride (and M:S although not mentioned). It say it will be a high capacity family ride updated to current technologies like the ones found at Disney Seas, whatever that means.
