Spaceship Earth News Video Updates?

On Spaceship Earth, right after you go past the overlook of the Earth and your car turns backwards for the ride back there is an overhead video screen showning a news story presented in several different languages to highlight how "their news is our news". During my visit this past week they were showing footage of the first manned chinese space flight. Since that only happened a couple of weeks ago I was pretty impressed that the video was current.

How often to they update that with new video footage?

No idea. It looks the same to me as it did 5 years ago. Maybe I just don't pay attention all that much.

All I know is a couple weeks ago, the "Virtual Classroom" video was backwards. When I got off, there were Disney Engineers talking and I told them. They laughed and said "it looked OK from where we were, but I guess that's because we were behind the screen!"

A good laugh was had by all.

I don't think this is true, since everytime I go on the ride, it's always the same thing. Men and women from different countries talking about the news in the world. But I could be wrong...:wave:

Oh they still had men and women newscasters from different countries speaking in foreign languages (about what exactly, I have no idea) but the video they were speaking in front of was the Chinese manned spaceflight.

Maybe they are just putting new pictures behind the people speaking. The audio is so low you might not catch what they are saying even if you spoke the language.

Ive seen it with the Angels winning the World Series, as well as the Blizzard that the NorthEast had this past year in February.

Right after the Yankees lost the World Series in 2001, they changed the footage as it was a painful reminder during our honeymoon in December.

When we went back in Feb 2002 it was changed again. So apprarently they update it constantly

They may change the pictures but they do not change the overall video. It's been the same every time I go.

Also, they still have footage of Bill Clinton as President. It's obviously not that current.

I'm still waiting for Disney to put BACK all the stuff they gutted in that scene! I've said it before, look to your right on the backwards descent...theres stuff missing, screens I think, from the orig. ride. I just can't remember exactly what.

Very unusual to have a "void" the size of that and not replace w/ anything. I'm still looking for pics of the old ride/video that shows what I'm talking about.

Remember the green spirial spotlight with the fog machine right before the first screen? The rig is still there and visible, but the spotlight and fog machine are missing.

Yeah, if you ride SE at night so that your eyes are adjusted to the darkness, you can easily make out part of the old sets that are behind you as you see the "classroom" setup.

As for the news video, the anchors in the video don't change, but the video over their shoulder does pretty regularly.

This is really interesting. I have never really noticed it changing. I always figured they had some generic footage that was so universal they'd never have to change it.

How hard do you think it is to update the footage?

The video changes constantly! Imagineers from Disneyland send a new video almost monthly. It is pretty cool!!! You could say that it is the most updated attraction in the parks!!!

Ever notice it's a 50-50 shot whether or not the lightning scene (when you first past the new safety speil screens) has the eerie smoke/waves in the background? This used to be a hidden Mickey too...the "pink smoke" swirles would look like clouds then morph into a hidden Mickey if you were lucky enough to catch it!


Last few times I've gone; just lightning--no "clouds"

Anyone else catch this?

Firstly you suck becuase you like the Tarholes.

Im a huge Duke fan, and originally from Charlotte, NC, so that's why.

Anyways, im going to make an incredible historic moment and be in complete and full agreement with a Tarheel fan. I have been many times over the course of a couple of years and not once has that video changed so I completely disagree that the video is changed monthly. It's not correct. I have seen the same snowstorm scene and Bill Clinton scene for the last two years.

However, they already have plans to do something with that. From what I heard and read it's a Little mermaid attraction. I think it's pretty much set in stone so to speak. It goes along with Epcot's Project Gemini.

Well now you have a good excuse to go back and ride it soon just to see the Chinese astronaut footage! :lol:

I am not saying that it isnt different now.

I will say though that it has not changed monthly over the course of the last few years. It's been the same every time I've been.
