Spaceship earth is leaking

Usually not one to complaign about conditions in the park, but I thought it was worth noting that the bottom of spaceship earth near the enterance to the ride is dripping wildly. The drainage system that allows that to not happen must be broken. Anyway just thought id point it out. I'll post a picture when I get back from the park.

Wasn't the WDW area hit with storms today? I thought the water parks both closed early due to severe weather....

Yes very server storms, but am I miss informed? I thought the drainage system allows for this not to happen.

Perhaps, but sometimes any drainage system can become overwhelmed if the storms are severe and rapid enough. Hopefully that's all that happened today with SE....

Aye, storms at Disney and what was probably the rest of mid-to-southern Florida. I live in Naples and we also got hit with a massive storm (assuming part of the same one that hit WDW). I don't know about where you're referring to on Spaceship Earth. Was it leaking INSIDE the actual building, or just places on the outside?

I've seen The Land pavilion leak through the glass roof INTO the actual building. Happens when you're on Living With the Land and first enter greenhouse. It leaks over the waterway and on parts of the sand where the plants grow. Not sure if they fixed it, but it was leaking early this year during a shower (not even a major shower). I think there's some work that needs to be done between the glass panels. Probably some sealant or something needs to be patched where they segment together. I don't suppose it's supposed to do that.:ROFLOL:

Again not complaining just informing thought it was interesting since ive never seen that even after bad storms. Hoping its just a case of overflow not that the system is somehow broken.

Thats a big sphere and I imagine it produces allot of runoff. It was probably the smallest hole or crack causing all that dripping.
Most of the runoff is caught in the 2 gutter systems and let out into Showcase Lagoon.

There are always minor leaks from spill bellow the gutters.

Most likely just a combination of one of the gutters needing to be cleaned out, and a heavy rainfall that overwhelmed the now-reduced capacity of the gutter system.

I've seen a single stream of water coming off the sphere directly down onto the sidewalk on the east side before.

My gutters on my home are clean... yet, when a flash thunderstorm rolls through, they still seem to pour over in 2 locations near the downspout.

Probably a nice cleaning would do the trick or it was a heavy storm. Id be glad to volunteer my services in cleaning out those gutters for them at anytime. :D

Even it is leaking, that system was developed in the late 70's and constructed almost 30 years ago.. its sure to have some quirks even with decent maintenance.

The leak is not from the rain. The Mediterranean Sea in the Phoenician scene in Spaceship Earth is higher than previous years due to higher than predicted snow fall this past winter in Europe. The major news companies have reporters en route to cover the possible flooding of ancient Greece and Rome. :animwink:
