Any possibilities of a soft preview before the 15th that was stated before?

I don't know. Soft Previews are just that: if the attraction is ready for Guest test-reactions, the attraction opens. E:E followed this pattern; Guests were meeting the Yeti for months before its "official" opening. Soarin' did this, too.

They've been walking Spaceship Earth Cast Members through there, so it must be to a point where there isn't any more heavy construction that would be a danger to the average Joe. And apparently they're getting their new costumes on Wednesday, and are being very heavily trained right now.

DH and I will be there from the 8th to the 19th. We'll be visiting Epcot 3 times on our trip--so hopefully we might be able to experience SSE.

SSE didn't have much in the way of training before, I think 3-days including all of the regular ops/park safety stuff, so really about 1 days learning the ride and evac routes and procedures.

I think the mass training would moreso have to do with them not really having any old SSE CM's left, because they went to find more interesting things to do then perma-greet and babysit Project Tomorrow. No one I recognize still works there :(

That said, from an operational standpoint, if the vehicles are moving then the CM's jobs are mostly done - the hard part would be learning the evac routes, especially if they're all new.

The person I talked to made it seem like there is a little more training due to the interactive elements. You also lose your training certification when you don't work an area for six months, which for all of the Spaceship Earth Cast Members, would be December 8th. The fact that they are being trained now says to me that it will become operational in the near future. It wouldn't make sense to train them now when they wouldn't be able to work until two or three months from now. She had also said that there are also a lot of hours available to work for SSE Cast next week.

Unless I missed it in this pose already this is direct from Imagineering from The Cast Hub and pretty much confirmed the narrator, and previews.

Spaceship Earth gets new musical score
11/30/2007

Glendale, Calif., Nov. 29, 2007 - Ten time Emmy®-award winning composer Bruce Broughton conducted a 63-piece orchestra and 24-voice choir for a new musical score for Spaceship Earth at Walt Disney World Resort. Walt Disney Imagineers have been re-imagining the iconic Epcot attraction since earlier this year, and have added new show scenes to the attraction's story line, along with new lighting effects, costumes, set decoration, and a new narrator - Academy Award®-winning, English actress Dame Judi Dench.

For the musical score, each scene was infused with musical styles and instruments appropriate to the time period, which was not an easy task according to Walt Disney Imagineering senior show producer Bob Zalk. "To have that score transition smoothly as vehicles travel from one time period to the next is extremely difficult," he said. "The first time we rode through the attraction accompanied by that music, we were amazed."

Spaceship Earth has been on hiatus since earlier this year, and is expected to re-open in December for sneak previews. When it re-opens, Spaceship Earth will combine the magic of the iconic attraction's time-travel adventure into the past with a new finale and post-show, presented by Siemens, which provides guests the opportunity to imagine their futures. Guests discover how each generation of mankind has invented the future for the next generation, and how the spirit of innovation has moved people from the caves to the cosmos.

I would think with how much weight they've added to the vehicles in terms of the video screens and then also the new sound system setup they might be facing another 72 hour stress test.

I remember an ye-olde-Epcot manager telling me about the original test for the ride, that meant putting people-sized sangbags into the vehicles at load and them pulling then out at unload while the ride just continuously ran.

that was 1982. Safety has improved now. They have all kings of testing, such as stress on tracks, tolerance on bearings etc. Think of RNR, EE, BTM, all their testing.

I was talking to a cast member last night in Project Tomorrow. We were trying to find out about previews and she said that they still had to train the Ops on the systems. I'm wondering when they will be starting the training. I see that somebody else posted that they were already in progress.

As I've said in another post regarding this, there's a very good chance if you're at Epcot this Saturday (12/8) and Sunday (12/9) you should swing by SSE. You might be surprised. :)

The plans as of right now are for the majority of the day, but as we all know they are subject to change. The rest of the training and some other matters have to get ironed out over the next two days and if all goes well on that front, Saturday and Sunday will be good days for SSE fans. :)
