Space Mtn question

While riding Space Mtn, it looks like there are several low bridges that you pass under. If you put your hands up, is there any possiblity of getting them hit/injured/ripped off?

I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've always been a bit scared because some of those beams seem pretty low at times.

Well... It is space mountain.. I do know the clearance is extremely low... I have had my hands up before. Didnt get hurt. But it felt like my hands were going to be chopped off...

OK I admit it.... It was a dare... Got me 20 Bucks tho! :)

the clearance is greater than you are led to think in the dark. In the sun tunnel, I could touch the walls, but other than that...you'd have to be probably 7 feet to get anything knocked off. If you aren't that tall, well...don't sit behind someone that tall :) That...would be disgusting...

If I am not mistaken, in the design process Disney planned for riders who put their hands up during the ride.... in fact, I can't imagine how Disney would/could keep the ride open if there was not enough clearance.

Heh, at 6' 5", I dont fit well in the cars, at all. I don't know how many times i duck, not even having my hands up. I just always have this feeling I'm going to bust my head wide open.

There is enough clearance for a person to walk to the track and not hit their head, so sitting down and holding your hands in the air is not a problem.

I dont think you will get hurt. I have never put my arms up on Space Mountain becuase those bars look so close to your space shuttle. When you sit in the front seat, its scary and I always duck and dont move. lol:D :p

The bars look closer in the dark...shadows playing tricks on you. There are places when you could touch them, but you'd have to be tall and probably flying out of your seat...doesn't happen much. More liable to lose your glass eyes than your fingers, and unless you are 9 feet tall, you head is always safe...this ride would not be open had it decapitated anyone. However, do feel free to touch the walls in the sun tube. I'm not tall, and I could...

I had the misfortune of riding in the very front seat on my past trip. Between trying to squeeze into and out of that seat and the ride itself, that ride scared me to death and has made me not want to ride it for a long time.

Hey!
Yeah, it does seem pretty low when you are going pretty darn fast in the dark like that though. Im not quite sure that anybody has had there fingers cut off by that or hurt though. That seems alittle out there. I think part of the reason why the imgineers designed it like that is b/c they have little space to work with and it makes it feel like a "Head Chopper" or in this case a " Finger Chopper" effect. I think it adds a little bit more fear to the ride. But im not saying you will not get your fingers hurt if you are 7 feet tall. Your chances increase the taller you are. Just like Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure, you can't ride if you are over 7 feet tall. ºoº

I'm 6'1" and I won't ride without ducking the entire time lol.

I know this will sound corny & fake... but i have held my hands up pretty high on rides, and in the begening tunnel i actually did tap my hand on it a bit, it didn't hurt cause it was so slow, and i was reaching up but the chances are that you wont lose any body pieces! :)

However, i have had friends
who say they have held their hands up/out of the car and hit things and got bruised allitle, but u have to be goofing around like they did to get hurt. :hammer: :hammer:

You'd think it could chop your hands off...

But Disney would never operate a ride with that potential...

The front is the best seat of them all!!

you'd have to be doing something stupid to get hurt...like...Spaceship Earth is, in theory, safe...unless you are passing kids between cars...

Isn't that how the lady got hurt on Peter Pan... or Haunted Mansion or something like that?

actually, it was Spaceship Earth, and it was a kid, and it led to a multi-million dollar lawsuit, which led to the new tv screens on the ride...further proof that there are a lot of stupid people in the world...and that Natural Selection is no more....

I can go with that. But i heard that along time ago, I think it was HM, that a lady was "Car hopping" and she jumped and got injured or killed or something.

I have rode this ride almost my entire life and i have never really been afraid of hitting the bars&poles etc. i mean they look really low but every once in a awhile i put my hands up, i always do on last drop and i have touched the top of the sun tunnel.. but i think if u did have your hands up and your not too tall then u don't got anything to worry about not like im gonna try to keep them up the whole time lol

....oh and i personally like the backseat the best, the front seat is good but i get a better ride in the back :)
