while I was there the week before Christmas, I did speak with a fellow working in the store at the exit of space mountain while waiting for my daughter and he said starting 1 jan 07 they were taking space mountain down for 1 year, for renovations and maintenance...t

No, unfortunately not happening. Although Space is due for rehab, it's not going to close tomorrow for it.
hopefully you are right,...I was just relaying what i learned from a discussion with the CM in that store...it could have been changed...I asked him a couple times as it shocked me that it would take a year...just to make sure i heard him right....t

CM's are (unfortunately) left in the dark until the general public is informed through press releases and news events.

There is not a chance a Space Mountain rehab would take place the same time as Splash Mountain's. No way is Disney gonna close the two most popular attractions in the Magic Kingdom at the same time.

I trust info from most CM's about as much as I trust info from the old Iraqi Minister of misinformation. I'm fairly certain that Space is going to be refurbed before long but nothing has been announced yet and it's certainly not going to happen in January. Haunted Mansion is the big one to be going down soon, then I've heard Jungle Cruise, I'm hoping that Space would come next, and then I'd love to see Country Bears get the work it needs.
well did not post it to start anything...just connveying what i was told by an older man that worked at the store where SM exits into. I don't know if you call him a CM or what. But would have thought he would not have brought it up if there was not some truth to it...either way, was just passing it along. What you all say tho makes sense tho I don't know an awful lot about disney nor how they do things....t
