Here is a question---

The ride's speed has not changed over time, we know that...but what about the quality of the ride? It seems quite rough for a steel roller coaster. Do coasters become rougher with age?
In a word...yes.
Another factor at work on SM is the 1970's technology with which it was designed and built. Coaster builders today have access to many more tools (computers, etc) to enable them to make rides smoother and faster.

Oh...and I haven't said it in a while...WDW's SM is an embarassment to the name Space Mountain.:fork:

Tell us how you really feel about it. ;)

I like it, and it hasn't felt like it's slowed down to me.

This is my favorite "Leeism", especially when in comparison in exterior design to DLP. It looks almost as top notch as the DLP Paris castle, as apposed to the "Stay-Puff Marshmellow Man's" pillow. White, because we couldn't think of anything else. I mean -- come on -- they have people that design the proper colors in carpet accents -- to secondary moulding highlights to lighting gels galore-- all to bring out moods and feelings in guests, but can't give SM a decent paint job. IT'S PAINT. IT'S THE EASIEST POSSIBLE WAY TO UPDATE AN ATTRACTION -- ASK SIX FLAGS. I don't know how many colors the Shock Wave has been in Texas -- but I know as a kid I looked forward to seeing the new version every few years (Dark Blue and Yellow was my favorite). But not to rant -- just make it pretty! A simple paint job could easily make it a super park icon again. The light show at night is pretty cool though.

That's being way too kind. In truth, Space Mountain's only redeeming quality is that it's a "classic" and brings back fond memories for many people. By 1975 standards, Space Mountain was cutting edge. Now it's pretty much a joke. Space Mountain is WAY overdue for an update.

Yea I know.(like you said, fond memories, thats what I have) I think once pirates is done this is the next refurb project they NEED to do. It does not need to be another RR in MGM though. It needs to probably stay more to the family friendly side.
