Space Mountain

This is very disappointing news. I was so excited to see Space Mountain get totally rebuilt. It's in horrible shape and it could use a reboot. But once execs got their hands on this rehab, it was over before it began. I bet that the money that was going to be used on Space Mountain will either: a) get pouring into some meet & greet; or b) go to Disneyland.

It's upsetting that the Disney Co. pays little attention to WDW. It seems like it is totally neglected. :(

Yeah, I recently discussed that "pixie dust" with Marni. Talk about a joke. The MK needs execs who care about the full experience, and not just silly meet-and-greets and events.

Ahhh but young kids dont do space but love blokes in furry suits, and thats where Disneys marketing is aimed.

Want thrills, go to the other central Florida Parks, Disney is cute n cudley, which just also happens to be cheaper

Ah, but you're commenting without knowing the conversation. ;)

This has nothing to do with thrill rides. I'm referring to the unwillingness to spend money at the MK—compare DL's Pixie Hollow vs. WDW's, for example.

Cute-'n-cuddly does not mean cheaper, nor does Disney mean "cute-'n-cuddly."

So ... the latest cut (and there have been many ... millions you might say ... over the past few years) has Stale And About to Collapse Mountain closing for six months instead of 18 ... and you folks believe this is going to somehow result in anything but emergency repair and some basic cleaning/TLC (what used to be done regularly)?

Boy, the stench of pixie dust is strong in these parts.

And the stench of _____t stirring is strong TOO!

I noticed the same thing. The quality at WDW is not there compared to DL. It isn't even close. It's become a trend!

I say fully gut it, and put 1 longer track in there (cheaper than 2 shorter ones). The R&D has been done on most of the effects and sound tech already, so this should not be that gigantic a budget.

If all those smaller parks can afford new coasters, it's rediculous to say Disney can't.

In this down economy, this would be the fastest way to a new marketable E-Ticket and marketing plan to get people coming back. Everest worked after 9-11, and this would cost far less than a new mountain....

Space is only one of T-Land's worries at the moment. Been lately? Seen the ropes in front of Monsters, Inc. under "the dome thing?" We put those there a couple weeks ago for safety reasons, called maintenance, and nothing has been done since to fix the problem. Buzz, COP, and Stitch also have their share of maintenance issues (in varying degrees, none as severe as SM).

Hopefully the refurb on Space, however much or little they do, will instigate some change in the busiest land in the busiest theme park in the world. Her wrinkles are starting to show, and that's not good.

Safety and Show has always come before Efficiency; I have to live by that daily, why doesn't management?

Removing both tracks to make room for a single track doesn't mean it will be longer. A coaster has to keep momentum to make it move. You can't keep winding back and forth just to take up space and "hope" the train will make it back to the unload station. It's more complicated than that. Plus the ride capacity would be cut in half and cause even longer lines than there are now.

The ride capacity wouldn't be simply cut in half. If they closed one side of it then the capacity would be cut in half, but not every roller coaster track has the same capacity. It's conceivable that a single track design could have a higher capacity than the dual track design that Space Mountain currently has. With that said, it doesn't appear anything that major is gonna happen.

Apparently nothing will happen :zipit: :hammer::brick:

They aren't going to be happy until we get a Disneyland Big Thunder Mountain incident there. In all honesty it's sad, but I think that's the only thing that will shake management out of its apathy.

Incorrect. DL's Space Mountain only has a single track, but the rockets use side-by-side seating, which provides way more capacity than the MK rockets. Cutting back the MK's Space Mountain to one single track would not cause ride capacity to drop, if they did it the way they do it at DL (and I would assume they would).

I cannot understand why Disney would ignore one of their greatest assets. WDW is a huge money-maker for them. The least they can do is give us one major rehab a year. SM should've gotten a total rebuild (18 month rehab), but instead we get stuck with a 6 month rehab. I'm not happy at all with Disney management.
