Ok so we are going to WDW in 31 days and i'm starting to get scared about going on Space Mountain. Earlier in the year I went on it 4 times and loved it. I am just thinking about that last drop, it gets my stomach going.

I like this ride but I am starting to get scared of it.

I've never ridden it! I said to myself that I'll ride it in my next trip (1 week!)! What's bad about the last drop?

Well, if you don't like airtime then I wouldn't recommend riding it again. These last couple of months, Alpha side has been giving me some great airtime moments.

The drop on Alpha feels different (and bigger) than the drop on Beta.....

As such, we REALLY like Alpha better.....especially after our trip 2 weeks ago....

Those last drops are a mere 9 feet. If you want to see better, ride it at night or when the line is RRRRRRREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY long. Your eyes will adjust to the darkness and you can see at least a little better what is coming up.

I definitely second the "go at night" sentiment. It does help.

Second, try and get into the back of the second car. While you go very slightly faster, you will see the car in front drop first as a split-second warning.

So I wasn't imagining it... I like the feeling, it's just so weird. All of a sudden I go silent for the whole ride than when we come up to the drop it's like my mouth opens and says "AHHHH". Than closes.

Is it 5:00 yet?

I thought the drop was 30'? I think I read it somewhere...

I first rode SM when I was "6" and loved it..Now being "32" it's still my favorite ride even with some of the newer rides that have gone up since then..I guess for me it's the setting of the ride..The music, smell, and scenery..
Of course the last time I went to DW "03" I was pregnant and wasn't able to ride it, but I got a wonderful little girl..We're taking her in Oct 2007, and can't wait to walk her down Main Street the first time..Have fun on your trip!:sohappy:

We were at WDW a couple weeks ago and we all felt that the track on the right as you are walking past the control tower was much rougher that the one on the left. We really got banged around.

Nah...Space doesn't have a 30ft drop. I think the biggest drop is 19ft. Not totally sure, but that's right give or take a foot or so. I mean...jeez...30ft on that death trap would break your back!

Both sides are mirror images of each other, except for about 10ft of extra track on the Alpha side. However, that 10ft does not affect the ride much at all, certainly not in the drops.

I can tell you one thing for sure, the last drop is definitely more than 9 feet in height. The track length of the drop is pretty long since it is not steep, but it's definitely more like 20 feet in height.

The best, most intense ride to be had on Space Mountain is left side (Alpha?), back car, back seat. The ride quality on the left is better than on the right. I know they are mirror images, but one feels different than the other. The right side also feels bumpier.

As Lee stated both tracks are the same except for 10' which I thought was just before the unload section. Differences in physical sensations from alpha to beta are in most cases differences in the cars themselves, time of day, which position you are in in the train and track conditions.
