I like the space music they play as you are walking through the tunnel. Somebody has it on their site and I'm trying to find it. (The site also has Disney fonts on them and other ride music, if somebody knows of the site please tell me)

First off...Since when does being a "classic" ride prevent disney from re-doing it? horizons...Imagination...etc...

Second..as much as I enjoy the current space mountain ride system...my butt doesnt. I get off that ride and find it difficult to walk for the first few seconds. I would for one support a new ride. Sorry.

Third...Extreme rides bring in MORE riders. Look at TOT and Rock N Roller Coaster. 2 rides that are WAY more extreme than Space mountain...and both have amazingly high rider turnout.

And finally...yeah..sound of magic is cool An easier URL to remember for that site is www.soundofmagic.com :)

By virtue of the fact that the ride still pulls huge lines I think many people do still like sm as it is and in any case the MK is not about thrill rides its not that kind of park. God willing it never will be.

I have said this before and I'll say it again. For my money they should close it down and put in the one that is in DLP. For me it is a proper ride themed to a real space story. I know SM is great at the moment and that MK is not about "thrill" rides but surely in light of the current coasters that are in the area (Kraken, Duelling Dragons, Hulk) it might be an idea to go for a change.

has anyone checked out space mountain in paris? that looks incredible! i love wdw's space mounatin the way it is, but i don't think i'd be all that upset if they added the launch sequence like the one in paris...

Space Mountain Paris is incredibly similar to Rock n RollerCoaster at the Studios. I rank them very close, with SM DLP slightly ahead (maybe 0.5 more).

With WDWs SM they have something unique, and I think it should stay that way. If you want a SM DLP experience, its there at the Studios with RnR.

What would be more effective in my opinion, would be to leave SM as it is, and build a new attraction with a coaster element - ie Bald Mountain.

Space Mountain is a momument in Walt Disney World and it shouldn't be touched. Upgraded, maybe. They could make updates on the track to make sure a more comfortable ride, but the bumps and fast turns are what Space Mountain great! If you take these away and add a new ride, I can already see us all complaining like when Eisner ripped down Horizons and Journey Into Imagination.

Instead of replacing a classic why doesn't Disney put money into a ride like Fire Mountain, Discovery Bay, Beastly Kingdom, etc......

If anything, I say and have always said that they should remove one side of space mountain, seeing as it is two parts, and put in a ride like Superman: the escape or whatever it is at magic mountain, the one that goes really fast, goes straight up, gives you those moments of weightlessness, then send you back down. That would be great.

I disagree with the Superman idea. Disney is know for having innovative rides with great theming, not huge thrill rides. If Disney wants thrills, they need to add a new coaster, not destroy a ride that reeks of magic.

In my post, I said take out HALF, not the whole ride, space mountain would still exist, it would be the same ride. I agree, spacemountain should NEVER de removed, NEVER. It is a true classic ride. I did say that an alternative to removeing the whole thing would be to add this ride into the mountain, it doesn't take up much space, but also would be really popular, plus, it would really fit the space theme, seeing as you would launch upwards, and then enter weightlessness for a long period of time. It could also 'reek' with magic. But NEVER did i say take out space mountain :)

I don't think anything should be added, removed, or changed from Space Mountain. Its fine the way it is. No new rides within it, no completely new ride, nothing. Don't touch it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There are a lot of other things that could use updating and rehabs a lot more than Space Mountain. SM is probably one of the attracitons that needs changing the least. Leave it alone.

My point exactly... I've been trying to tell these people in this thread, but nobody seem to want to listen.

I agree that SM is o.k. the way that it is. I was brought up in Florida and remember the commercials back in 1975: "You can't climb it. You can't ski it. You EXPERIENCE Space Mountain!" A year or two later one of my classmates rode the new Space Mountain, Disneyland. In the 1990s a new SM ride at Disneyland, Paris was made (haven't seen it yet, but looking forward to that day!!).
Each time I visit WDW, I remember SM as if it were 1975 once more. I hope Disney plans to keep it that way. If I'm into the latest techno-ride that day, I'll go and visit Spider Man at IOA. Just my opinion.

Now that I'm showing my age....I can remember the tail end of the Space Race between the US and the USSR, pretty exciting time! I just miss the "old" look of Tomorrowland: the Apollo look of the StarJets, the astronauts "coasting" from space in front of Space Mountain. Hey, does anyone remember when RCA "hosted" Space Mountain? The song went somewhat like this: "RCA leads the way, leads the way..." The Fed-Ex presentation at the end of SM was the now-dated look at the family of the future...it wasn't long until the VideoDisk was reality! Well, that's my blast from the past.....

At the least, PLEASE add a sound track, I love this ride, and don't want to see it removed, heck, It was my first roller coaster, but last week, I rode in complete silence, it doesn't evoke loud enough screams, and I just got an occasional "Whooo!" form the girl behind me, a soundtrack or atleast loud sound effects would be a much welcomed improvement..
Nobody seemed to understand my idea of adding without removing the classic, so I'll drop it. And by posting it, I didn't mean that it should be Disney's top priority, I am pushing for Beastly Kingdom, and have gotten 5 friends to mail atleast 2 letters a week, telling our opinions on AK...PLEASE join in the effort! email if you want to know moer about it!

Hey frankcub,
I thought was the only one who remembered those astronaught guys outside the entrance!!! Now I feel so much more sane!

I remember all that and I am only 22.....wow...

Anyway...That whole "If it aint broke dont fix it" mentality is all well and good..but since when does disney go by that rule? I think if anything the high risk of injury on the original space mountain would be enough to keep disney thinking of a new ride system (lawsuits are a pain...and if u can avoid it...why not go for it?)...

Money is the factor here...and I still think that a new space mountain will be upon us in the next 8 years...The rumor is gaining strength as the months go on.
