Space Mountain question

The dog on Everest is kept in the up position via magnetic force generated by the wheels in motion (by a device attatched to the wheels). When the wheels stop moving for any reason, the force goes away and the dog drops down and engages the antirollback teeth.

Another form of silent lift technology is the hydraulic lift, which is basically a catch car attatched to a hydraulic winch underneath the lifthill. When the train attatches to the catch car, the winch pulls the train up the hill silently and at a faster speed than typical chain lifts. This system is used on Millenium Force at Cedar Point and the new El Toro at Great Adventure. Both rides have unusally steep and/or tall lift hills which wouldn't support the weight of the massive chain that would be required for the hill.

Such a system isn't possible on a ride like WDW's space mountain as there are multiple trains on the lift at once. The hydraulic lift can only carry one train at a time.

They can change it to the DL version if they want, just as long as we don't get the DLP version. We don't need another Vekoma looper. I read that SM at DLP is rough.

It would be nice to have some of the upgrades (sound, visuals smooth track)that DL's version of SM got, but WDW SM building is much larger and it would be a shame to go with a single coaster versus the 2 that it has now. It would be just a waist of space. Also the single rider width makes the ride. IMHO

I want them to keep WDW's Space Mountain the way it is. It's a classic :)

BTW, How much of the queue of WDW SM is in the circular building?

Thank you.

One reason why they were able to close DL's Space Mountain for such a long period of time was they have more attractions in which to absorb the crowd that would otherwise be riding Space Mountain. Until Disney decides to build another E-ticket attraction in Magic Kingdom that can absorb the crowds that would be riding Space Mountain, all of this talk about WDW getting a rehab for the original Space Mountain will be for nothing.

Exactly right! Unfortunately, decisions to refurb attractions or build new ones are never "'cause it would be cool!". It's because it makes good business sense to do so. Right now, Space Mountain is still a fairly popular ride that handles crowds well and has a good ridership per hour. There's no incentive for Disney to shut it down and spend millions of dollars re-doing it.

After you descend in the satellite building, and travel say 50ft, the rest of the queue is in and under the main show building.

read but experienced? thats my question to you my friend...

i think the ride is AWESOME! and ive ridden (both versions) more times then i care to remember! Its not actually that rough... only thing that lets it down is the slingshot - i hate the fact you slowdown at the top!

The effects are awesome - i miss the old styling tho which fitted in more with the book... But *meh* still one of the best coasters in europe that ive been on!

only gripe is the legroom aint ideal for people of the > 6ft persuasion!

They just shut down POTC which I believe has a larger per hour capacity than SM, and it was shut down during one of the busiest stretches of the year. They do not need to add another E-ticket attraction just for this. If another E-ticket were added to MK it would most likely make the crowding worse.

I think they tried the same thing at Epcot with the LS and the Land. Didnt they open Turtle Talk right before the Land went down to open Soarin or they closed the LS to put Nemo in right after they opened Soarin? If Im wrong please correct. I think that is right. If they did it at Epcot and it worked pretty well then why not try it at MK.
