Space Mountain - Poor Cast Experience

I really do not understand why they would not let you ride the left side, especially when it was only you. Unfortunately there will be rude cm's now and then, and maybe you will never run into one again, I just hope that it did not ruin your trip, and very sorry to hear about your loss.

My best recommendation for next time is see if you can get a moment with a cast member at that merge point just to explain the meaning behind why you would like that side. More than likely they will understand why and it will be no problem. If there are problems, I would ride, exit, and then visit the greeter outside, to see if you could talk to a manager for the area to just ensure you get that ride. They'll make it happen for you.

This is one of the things I really dislike about the latest refurb. Back in the day, it was easier to choose which side you wanted. It was only a few times when you were told to go either left or right. I personally like the left side best too, and it seems that every time I ride I'm always sent to the right. You would think that the standby line would automatically go that way since it's already on that side, and the majority of times it does. But for the few and rare moments when I am in standby, they make us go right. I've asked a few times and was able to go just because it wasn't that busy, but I asked one time last year and the guy kind of ignored me and kept waving his hand. I think they would really benefit from a singles line, a little ot but they're always asking for groups of 2 or 1, even 3. A single line would do wonders.

So there's no difference. It's also generally accepted you can't choose what side to go to anymore due to how the que works.

That's unfortunate about your father, but I'm sure there are other people in the same line as you that have had similar things that have happened to them.

I would call 10 extra feet a difference.

Whether it is 10 feet longer or not, if someone wants to ride the left side and politely asks, there should never be any reason for the CM to ask like a doofus and be rude... if there is a policy that CMs cannot allow people to ride the left side for some reason, the CM should politely explain the reason...

And if the left side is someone's favorite side, who cares??? There is a reason they liked the left side.... that is their preference...

DH, glad the Guest Services CM helped defuse your situation, somewhat... And ti is a shame you couldn't ride the left side... Hopefully next time things will be different and you'll get one of those ever decreasing wonderful CMs...

Were the trains for both sides still running? When we had a 3 a.m. EMH Big Thunder was down. The CM's out front just made the suggestion to not bother coming back tonight it was not going to reopen. That's why I ask, if a ride does have a problem after normal operating hrs do they just leave it shutdown?

The tracks are mirrored... Meaning one has more left turns and one has more right turns. To me, there IS a difference, and a guest's preference should be honored.

SHe offered me a button (---I'M CELEBRATING---). I said that would be nice, upon which she gave me all 8 disney buttons: 1) Family Reunion, 2) Happily Ever After, 3) I'm Celebrating, 4) Happy Birthday, 5) Just Engaged, 6) 1st Visit, 7) Happy Anniversary, 8) Honorary WDW Citizen.

Overall, the CM kindness and enthusiasm counteracted everything which upset me. I am grateful for her kindness and friendship. Above all else, I wish I had had the chance to ride the left side of space mountain, thought important to me, it was not worth a public outburst (in-line) or waiting again. I know I'll have another chance. God Speed Everyone.

So, she gave you 8 buttons for random things as a fix? Now honestly I don't think your complaint was a major one and it was nice to offer a fastpass, but the buttons thing bothers me.

They hand out buttons to anyone who asks for them, its not a perk or a special discount.

Basically I wonder if they try to offer the same thing for bigger problems that guests encounter..."here's 8 free buttons that anyone can get anyway".

It seems condescending that they can give those to the average guest to satisfy them.

Its like if I go to my local bank if I had a fee that was incorrect and they offer me a lollipop or something.

This, yes. Ask and explain. Better yet, ask beforehand, to the right person, not the CM at the top of the line who has to direct 2000 people an hour.

I too always simply get directed left or right at SM. Not that I mind, not big of a deal to me, although I would like to vary between the two at will. Still, whatever. I happily aquiesce in being herded around like cattle at WDW. ;)

From what I understand, they did try a singles line, but due to the configuration of the queue, it didn't work out.

I was dissapointed with the cast members today at the Magic Kingdom - especially at Space Mountain. Extremely rude. Just puttin it out there. And I never complain about stuff like that. I suppose they could be exhausted from the long holiday weekend....

When we went to go ride Space Mountain around noon, they had the ride at 60 minutes. We grabbed a FastPass - went to lunch and came back and it said 80 minutes for standby. Come to find out....we wait 20 minutes in the FastPass line - and Standby had about a 10 minute wait at the most. I pointed out to the cast member at the FastPass merge - that the sign out front said 80 minutes for standby and she rolled her eyes and said..."Umm ya, we know.." When we came out, they had switched the sign to 60 minutes...still WAY longer than the line actually was. What is going on??

I personally think they are upping the number of FastPass tickets they are distributing an hour - and at least on some attractions - GREATLY exaggerating the Standby time outside (by like 45 minutes) to discourage people to get into the standby queue. Anyways....rant over...

First off, I apologize for your unfortunate dealings with the Space Mountain CMs and I am glad that the Guest Service CM could make the situation a bit better for you. I am surprised that you were denied access to the left side of the ride but if it happens again, I would suggest riding through the right side and upon exit of the ride ask the nearby CM if there is a manager around or if you see someone in business clothes with a blackberry or nextel speak to them. Upon seeing the manager, explain your situation and that you were denied entrance into the left side. I would be incredibly surprised if the manager did not immediately let you ride again on the left side. Again, I apologize for your misfortune in the situation and hope when you return you will be able to ride. =)

Ya they had one back around 2005 I believe and it did pretty well. You would think they would have tried to better implement one a few years ago when it was closed since it could have helped a lot. I really wish they would have, but oh well can't get everything.

Hold on. The tracks ARE different. As wiki says, they are MIRROR IMAGES of each other. Not duplicates of each other. A right turn on one is a left on the other.

Oh, I agree, the sides are different. I actually become nauseated on the right side. So, I much prefer the left side. It has bothered me since I was a kid.
