Space Mountain Mishap (2/24/05)

Was anyone at the Magic Kingdom yesterday (9/24/05)? I was in line for Space Mountain at about 9:45 PM. After waiting for about 30 minutes, the ride shut down and the lights came on. I waited around for a while, hoping that it was something minor... and that they'd get the ride up and running again. Eventually, however, I decided to hop out of line and spend my last hour enjoying myself... rather than waiting for a ride that may not have been working.

As I walked out, I saw a paramedic crew working on a park visitor in the disembarking area. A security guard walked by and opened up the back door, which revealed an ambulance pulled up behind the building. Rather than getting the way, I continued up the ramp. At the top of the ramp, I saw a very upset young man (african american) sitting in the arcade. As I was leaving the park, I saw the same young man and his mother and a little girl in City Hall.

I was just wondering if anyone was working last night and knew what happened? Or, perhaps someone on this board was even disembarking at the same time.

I was really disappointed that I did not get a chance to ride Space Mountain. However, the situation appeared serious... and I really hope that everyone was okay. I can always go on SM on my next trip to Disney...

Just curious...

Yes but I doubt a little popcorn left an entire family in tears... :)
Guess you haven't seen the price Disney charges for popcorn ;) .

In all seriousness though, I hope the person is ok and that everyone involved is doing well too.

Good Point Spence - I take it back Turkey - the price of going in debt on a Disney Vacation can make anyone head to the Guest Services begging for a discount :D

On a serious note - I really hope that family is okay - it's a scary thing, being on vacation and something bad happening to a family member...

 Wo, sounds bad! I really hope everyone was ok and that the family was able to continue their trip!!

It couldn't of been that bad..... I mean if it was bad we would have heard about it before! I mean it happened in what September?? I'm sure if it was something serious CNN or Headline News or the local news would have stepped in and had a story about it!! I mean..... when the unfortunate tragety happend @ BTMRR in Diseyland I heard about it for weeks!!

I'm sure it wasn't anything too serious!

Well on a related topic... did WDW ever settle the lawsuit from a guest that was allegedly hit by a camcorder battery that fell out of a ride vehilce on the tracks above? Disney was being sued because at the time (and maybe currently) they did not have nets to keep foreign objects from upper level tracks falling on lower level tracks. Would be awful if this is a case of the same sort of thing happened again.

My guess is that someone may have had physical problems while riding. I don't think that the ride its self had anything to do with it.

I love Space Mountain but can no longer sit in "6" - the last seat; it kills my back. Of course "1" is the best seat but still makes my nervous.

You can't fairly assume someone hasn't been seriously injured just because you haven't heard about it in the media outlets. At the same time, you shouldn't assume it was a serious injury just because people were crying and there was a paramedic or an ambulance present.

If someone knows something and shares it, okay. Otherwise, this is just one of those mysteries in life.

I think the OP mistyped the date. Look at the title and look at the post date.

They'll never win. Disney fights all of their lawsuits in order to make it "unconveienient" for frivoulus lawsuits. No lawyers in FL will ever fight against them. They'll take their cases all the way to the supreme court. So, tell'em good luck!

Besides... I'm no lawyer by any stretch of the means, but how is a guest losing a camcorder battery over the side of their ride vehicle Disney's fault? The moron who lost the battery over the side should be strung up.... Not that I advocate violence in any means

They won't settle a case to make it go away, but they will if it's one they're going to lose. Lot's of good lawsuit stories about Disneyland in Mouse Tales. My favorite was when they were making an in park training film about how to handle a guest falling with a tray of drinks. A bystander watching was a lawyer that immediately handed the fallen actor his business card.

Cheers.
