Space Mountain - difference ride experiences?

I am always terrified on that ride that I am going to hit my head on a bar. Even though I am average height (maybe a smidge taller) I have this nightmare of pulling up to the end of the ride with no head and my blood and brains splattered all over my wife and kids.

I mean, I still ride it multiple times per trip, but I always have that fear.

This hasn't been my experience. Disney will almost always give you your choice if you ask - front, back, middle. I've even asked on Soarin' and been put in the middle, top row, where I wanted to be!

I meant they don't have specific lines. Can you imagine how long the last and front of some of the rides would be? I'm going to hope we have the same luck at EE again this year..and good to know about Soarin' I think we'll request the same!

If you rode it 20 years ago or the 2005 Disneyland version you'd see the difference.
I rode it 20 years ago. But there's a lot of rides that I went on 20 years ago that hurt me now..still love 'em even with the pain.. Space Mountain doesn't bother me though, now or then.

I thought our Space Mountain was bad for bumps and shaking, but the Matterhorn at Disneyland is in a whole different league. Makes Space Mountain feel comfortable in comparison.

On Space Mountain at MK, while I never request a specific side, I always seem to enjoy the left side track (turning left from the main line) more.
I don't know why, but that's been the case for years. My Wife, who's not a dorky "ride analyzer" like me agrees completely.

A ride where you generally do have a choice, the Matterhorn at Disneyland, the right side which loads next to Alice in Wonderland has always been my preference, dating back to my first visit in the Seventies. Again, I can't say exactly why. But lot of long time DLR regulars I know feel the same way.

Little things can sometimes really change your appreciation of certain attractions.

If they could make SM as smooth as 7DMT, that would be an amazing experience. I definitely don't ride it as much anymore. Very bumpy, and after a while, riding in near darkness gets a little old.
