Space Mountain closing intermittently in September

In my opinion, Space Mountain in Florida is the most overrated attraction on property (followed closely by Peter Pan's Flight). I would much rather ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Journey of the Little Mermaid than Space and Pan.

As for Space Mountain in Disney World vs. Disneyland, I don't think it's particularly close. While the track layout of Florida may be superior, it's more or less irrelevant in my mind because the track is so rough (except in seat 5 for some reason). Disneyland is a much smoother ride, has a fantastic on board audio track, and better effects. I couldn't think of a day at Disneyland without going on Space Mountain, while in Florida it happens all the time for me.

Completely agree. BTMRR is a much better coaster in my opinion. When at MK, I ride Space Mountain if there is no line. At DL, I waited despite the line.

That last dip in MK's version always gets me! Love the feeling afterwards, but I agree, the ride is far too jerky, especially when you're sitting in the back rows. I haven't been on Disneyland's version since after they refurbished it. I still kind of remember it being better. Disneyland's Space Mountain was my first Space Mountain coincidentally.

Slight brakes might be a good thing.

I'm tall, so Space Mountain is...not pleasant. Don't get me wrong; perhaps stupidly, I still always ride SM. Its got flavor, its a landmark and after all, I paid a hundred bucks to get in. But its...not pleasant. Like being placed in a dark barrel and rolled down a hill. A rocky hill. Not a nice grassy hill with dandelions.

Just...not pleasant.

I don't want a ride in space to feel bumpy and jerky, it's supposed to be smooth.

DL's SM is light years better than WDW's, it was my favorite attraction when I visited DL actually!
A ride is supposed to be smooth as well as fast. You cant take a ride that old and try to speed it up by releasing some brakes and not have it feel out of control or jerky. It needs to be as fast "as it can be" without the negative aspects.

At this point, I feel that MK just needs to be redone. I am not a fan of placing trims on a coaster at all. Make the coaster better by a complete redesign.
completely agree. it's hard to take an old ride and make it faster without it having the negative aspects of jerkiness and feeling unhinged. The banking and design of a ride from the inception are often hard to change after the fact just to "speed it up". It didn't work and I feel it is a worse ride and I hope they correct it. I love speed and air and weightlessness but not at the sake of being torn in two.

Hi Everyone!

I rode Space Mountain a week ago 9/22 and then yesterday after the refurb. Yesterday I noticed they put in/adjusted brakes right before the biggest drop. To be honest, it's a bit of a let down - there's hardly any air time now.

What I'm wondering is if this has been here for a while and I didn't notice on Sunday, or new since the few day refurb.

Thanks!

Glad we rode it one last time before the shutdown during EMH's on Sunday (or maybe it was Monday)! Didn't know this was going to be more "defurbing"...was just hoping it was housekeeping and maintenance.

I rode it a few different times to make sure. At first I thought it was because we were going too fast (train full of adults), but it happened on every ride regardless of weight or side.
