Space mountain changing

Due to Spacemountain's status. I believe changing the ride would be like tearing down the Coney Island Cyclone. Space Mountain may only be 29 years old, but I would consider that an old classic.

EXACTLY, certain rides are CLASSIC. This is a "Classic" WDW experience, much like Haunted Mansion, PoTC, etc.

I don't mind if they smooth out the ride or add sound. But do not fundamentally change the ride. Launches are cool and all, but there is still something to be said of the "click, click" of the chain lift that helps to build anticipation.

Heres a question:

Do you think they would change this ride with the supposed upcoming proposal of Time Racers (or whatever theyre calling the new Spaceship Earth)?

Just wondering your thoughts.

I dont want the ride smoother, it gives it character. I want them to change the inside and make it more of a story before entering the coaster. But I like the coaster.

This is another of those repeating thread that rears it's head every few weeks

I think my standard reply is to give it a rehab, maybe add some new effects and sound, but leave the track layout alone as it's a classic.
Exactly! You can't make major changes to a classic. If you want a different ride, build it. But don't take away an old standard.

From the back, I didn't find it all that bumpy when I rode, although they could make it more thrilling. I remember only having fun on one part of the ride, and that was that drop in the middle. You get some nice air. They don't need it to do inversions, but they need it more thrilling.

NO, Space should stay the way it is. Sure it's not like big and flashy RnRc but it's still the most lovable rides in all of Walt Disney World. I hope they don't change it, it would be a huge loss for me personally, I love this attraction.

I'd love to see something along the lines of DLP's version...and even better...but if the track is still in good condition...and they could use the money somwhere else, I think it would be a wiser choice to use the money elsewhere especially since space mountain is still very popular as is.

Does anyone know whats the condition of WDW's Space Mountain?

Gut the thing. New track. Onboard soundtrack. Better special effects. Just do something with the darn ride.

Until they fix it, I will continue to consider it as one of the worst attractions at WDW. DLP's Space is what all of them should be like.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Disney World does not need a copy of the Paris Space Mountian. It's already there - Rock n Roller coaster. Smooth out the ride and give it some sound and I'll be happy.

But they are not the same. RnRC is totally different from Paris' Space Mountain.

WDW's Space Mountain is an embarassment. Horrible.

And (just to fire folks up) just because a ride is old doesn't make it a classic, and if it IS a classic, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be restored. What is better? A 1956 Corvette with a crappy engine, torn seats, bad wheels, and no radio....or a fully restored version that looks and rides as good as the day it rolled off the line. Exactly. Forget that "classic" nonsense. Indy Speedway could be called a classic, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't bulldoze it down ASAP.

*Agrees with Lee* I'd much rather ride a fully restored Corvette, I mean Space Mountain! Bottom line is Space Mountain is 29 years old and has experienced extreme wear and tear...it is time methinks to spruce this mountain up!

Indy Speedway holds no special place in my heart...BULLDOZE IT!! :drevil:

I really hope that it doesnt change. Esp to anything like Rnrc. One its to short and I like space mountain because its actually worth standing in the two hour line for. People actually get off and dont feel gipped like Rnrc.

Dont get me wrong I like Rnrc, except the music, but its just that its to short and I enjoy SM because its a nice long Family friendly rollercoaster.

I think the ride should be upgraded to the extent if not further then the DL Space Mountain. Yes, it is a classic, however if we keep the concept and make an honest and creative approach to making the attraction better, I don't think you are doing a disservice. If the ride building remains it wouldn't seem like anything is missing - as far as visually. In fact with redevolping the ride system to a more modern concept can only be a positive to the attraction. I can not think of anything that I would miss in space mountain that they can not replace with something better and more up-to-date.

Long trains, catapult launch, corkscrews and loops, they are pretty similar you have to admit.

Space Mountain needs some attention, I'm not going to deny it. But if something being old is a reason to replace something then get rid of the railroad around the park, I mean it's steam for crying out loud - noisy and smelly. Ditch the dirty thing and make it an nice quiet electrical train.

Just because something is old does not mean you should throw it away.

My friend was recently in Disney world about 3 days ago and her mom was talking to a CM who said that there were going to be changes in space Mountain to make it more like RNRC.... IS this true?????????? My friends parents are disney fans like us here they are annual pass holders but live here in IL so I know they wouldn't joke about this stuff.... Is this really happening?????????

True...but eventually I'm guessing WDW's Space Mountain will go the way of DL's...if that happens and the track is replaced...why not make it better than it currently is (instead of replacing it with the same or similar track)...with launch, loops, and the works? Forget making it like DLP's Space Mountain or making it like RnRc...make it better than those two....just some more thoughts...

Disneyland's track was replaced because of the geniuses who decided to place speakers on the cars and not take note the extra weight would destroy the track.

Anyway, a disneyland style rehab would be okay. But anything past that I would be deeply against.

Why do we need another clone of a RnRC type coaster? I'm all for a refurbishment to the ride, but there's no need to make any big changes.
