Space Mountain Audio

I'm wondering if the new Space Mountain theme is related to what Martin said about Tomorrowland getting a new white/retro theme in the long term. The new artwork seems to depict more of a retro look rather than an alien/planetary one.

I really hope they start selling t-shirts of the new artwork.

To anyone who has ridden SM with the new audio, is the new music audible at any point in the queue or load areas?

Great to see them plussing SM even more. While its not onboard audio, its the next best thing, and it sounds like a pretty good bit of music for a roller coaster. :)

While in the loading area you can certainly hear pieces and parts of the music. Not much is audible in the queue, that is the same audio as it has been. Also, in the unload area there is new music. While it is not the same as the ride audio, it is rather similar.

Good to know it can't really be heard in the queue. I guess the load area isn't a big deal; kinda fits I suppose. Thanks for the info.

They could certainly do a WDW version of Ghost Galaxy.

However, isn't the highlight of DL's version the projections along the interior dome very close to the ride vehicles? DL's trains hug the walls and ceiling much much closer than inside WDW's huge dome.

The highlight of Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy actually turned out to be the projection shows they did on the exterior of the dome, putting on different shows every few minutes for all of Tomorrowland. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_7MtapsZUs&feature=related

But the interior show was also great. I just think the exterior dome shows were a surprise and that's what had everyone talking.

Of course, they can never do Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy at WDW because it would RUIN VACATIONS for millions of people who saved for years to visit WDW and can only visit once in their lifetime. The three day rehab to install it in mid September, and the one day rehab to take it out in early November would make children cry. And the absence of Space Mountain Classic for six weeks out of the year would, again, RUIN VACATIONS. This is also why Magic Kingdom doesn't have Haunted Mansion Holiday, It's A Small World Holiday, and why they stopped doing the Country Bear Christmas Special. They are protecting vacations there in the executive suites of TDO!

As for WDW's Space Mountain finally getting some audio...

Not quite the originally planned on-board audio and full-tilt show rehab, but this is a great first step into the 21st century for Magic Kingdom! I look forward to experiencing it!

You don't get it. It is irrelevant whether or not you memorize the audio on Space Mountain Florida. Because it is a continuous audio loop, and not tailored to your specific vehicle, you will never be able to use your memorized audio to anticipate drops and turns.

I think what he meant was that even though the audio does not make it possible to anticipate drops and turns, he knows where the drops and turns are anyway!

That's how it is for me, being a frequent rider!

Omega Track, from memory, after the lift-hill:

SPOILER ALERT!

"Teaser dip"
Right hand U-turn
Straightaway
Descending left hand spiral
Straightaway
Uphill
Descending right hand spiral
Straightaway
Lefthand turn, straightaway
Uphill (with frontseat airtime!)
Lefthand turn
Straight drop #1 (with backseat airtime!)
Straightaway
Lefthand turn, short straightaway
Lefthand turn, short straightaway
Straight Drop #2 (next to lifthill, with backseat airtime!)
Short straightaway
Lefthand turn, short straightaway
Lefthand turn
Straight drop #3 (with backseat airtime!)
Straightaway, left hand circular ascending turn
Straight drop #4 (the biggest, with backseat airtime!)
Straightaway, right hand circular ascending turn
Straightaway
Right hand long descending spiral, straightaway
Right hand turn, straightaway
Left hand turn, straightaway (re-entry tunnel)
Left hand turn, straightaway (brakes)
Right hand u-turn, straightaway
Left hand u-turn, straightaway
Unload

Alpha is, of course, an almost identical mirror-image, with "left" and "right" turns reversing.

The Haunted Mansion doesn't NEED a holiday. If everyone loves Nightmare so much, it needs to get it's own ride. Honestly, if the Mansion had a Nightmare theme for my trip, i'd cancel the entire thing. The other Holiday themes are great, just not this one.

Back to SM.

It certainly adds a lot of energy and the music/effects are both a great additions. It certainly adds to the 'retro' aesthetics. I can't wait to experience the attraction first hand to get the full effect.

All these changes/additions just keep getting better.

I didn't read all 9 pages of this, but we're heading there today. We'll be sure to give our full review.

Enjoy!

And maybe you can ride Dumbo with your camera while there :animwink:

We can never get enough FLE pics and we need to know what the elves
accomplished over the weekend.

Alpha did have some awkward gaps in audio as mentioned above, but I assume those will be fixed soon. It's no on-board audio with tons of speakers for each rider, but it is better than no audio.

I also agree that several portions of the score resemble the composition created for Anaheim. Not a direct lift, but altered themes.

I rode it yesterday morning and had no clue this was happening. What a great surprise!

I think the audio is just great and the whole mountain rocks! The areas like dips and bottom helix are synced up quite well. The overall music reminded me of DL's version quite a bit.

The audio links just aren't doing much for me, thanks in part to my crappy notebook speakers. I guess I'll just have to schedule a trip to go down there and hear this for myself. :D
