Soup's On

I've tried the Cheese soup from Le Cellier a couple of times, but I just don't get the appeal. I guess it's just not my thing.

The Smokey Portobello Mushroom soup at Artist Point is my favorite. Best mushroom soup I've ever had. I'll go there just for that.

Same here on both accounts. The Cheese soup is OK, but nothing special to me.

The Smokey Portobello Mushroom soup is my favorite.

Sleepy Hollow used to have this REALLY yummy chicken and wild rice soup. I only had it a few times (it's just not often cold enough for hot soup in Florida.) But the times I had it, I really enjoyed it. Sadly, when they added the waffle sandwiches, they removed it from the menu. :(

At R&C last trip we had the potato leek soup OMG it was so good, dipping the warm rolls in it was the best. Darn now I'm starving!!!

Weather man on TV just said for us here in Maine to brace ourselves for -20 to -30 bone chilling cold temps tonight. Lots of people going to have frozen pipes and dead car batteries in the morning. BRRRR, I'll take any soup that will warm me up. But my favorite has got to be the French Onion soup with the Cheese soup coming in at a very close second.

You could probably substitute any local golden lager. As long as you don't use U.S. beers, it'll turn out fine! ;)

It was made from Molson Golden years ago.

And Lobster Bisque! Yum. But that would be a heavy soup when not feeling well.

Years ago, Chefs De France would have a Soupe Du Jour - Soup of the Day that was always incredible. The chef would make it based on season and it would really change daily. It was most often a cream of something. This stopped as the dining plan took over...I really miss it!

My current favorite is the tomato soup at Beaches and Cream - Incredible!!!

I have to agree with the beer cheese soup.

My kids ask for it occasionally - I make it using a good cheddar and Sam Adams. Really easy to make...harder to make better for you than it is (very high fat content...).

I've never personally had it on property (the cookbook says it's from the Cape May Cafe) but an older 'Cooking with Mickey' cookbook has the New England Clam Chowder, and it's both easy to make and incredible.

Same cookbook has a version of the Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese soup. (This recipe doesn't have Moosehead or any alcohol in it - only has chicken broth as a base). It's good as well.

Oh, yeah, just about anything that Boma puts in a soup crock is good.

And while Chef's de France is now serving hospital food as a main course, I recall their French Onion soup to be pretty good, though mine is better (use Anthony Bourdains recipe, but use homemade roasted duck stock for a base) :)
