Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom: Imagineering a new video game (open brainstorming)

When I brought this up, I was actually thinking of doing this as something like a cross between Sorcerers, "Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion" (for its myriad characters) and, yes, a little bit of "Kingdom Hearts". Also, a little bit of this game (though not set at Tokyo Disneyland, obviously):

I really would like to see not just Mickey, Donald and Goofy battle the villains, but also have the characters in the cards be able to appear and have some animations when they attack.

One thing I've thought of was to combine up to three different spells at once, and when you do cast them, you can summon characters representing those spells to unleash their attacks at once. But what impact it has on the villain you battle will depend on how effective the mix is.

Part of the reason for separate storylines for separate characters (one each for Mickey, Donald and Goofy) stems from this Japan-only Disney game showing various Mickey, Minnie and Goofy at Tokyo Disneyland, hosting various minigames, each set in a different attraction at the park. I just wish I knew Japanese, as there is no English here:

Another thing I thought of was for certain attacks to come from the trio itself, as sort of power-ups, kind of like the Magical Quest series. For instance, the Apprentice Mickey card would be something of a power-up for Mickey, allowing him to use his Broomsticks attack, while the Caballero Donald card would be a power-up for Donald, allowing him to use his Pinata attack. I'm not sure what kind of a power-up Goofy should have, though. Maybe he could get a power-up that allows him to do a Perfect Cast attack.

I don't know much about the game, but it would cool to actually see the characters be summoned forth by Mickey, Donald and Goofy and utilize their attacks.

What do you think?

Agreed. The characters summoning others and having full animations for it, even interacting with their summons, would be a great feature.

Nice! I could see there being recurring bosses in addition to world/level bosses, ala Pete in KH. Pete could reprise his role of course, but I also see Captain Hook, the evil Br’ers, Constantine, Mad Madam Mim, Flintheart, Yzma, Rockerduck, and other less serious villains taking on these roles. Recurring bosses would mainly appear in a few mandatory fights, and will also roam various areas for refights with tougher arsenals, that can also give special cards when defeated. There would be plenty of regular enemies to deal with as well, themed to each area, but probably no “common” enemies aside from maybe the Beagle Boys and Weasels. Even then, these enemies could easily get themed for each area as well. Fantasyland would have Pink Elephants, Maleficent’s goons, Card Soldiers, Hook’s pirates, the Coachman’s shadow gorilla things, and a few other enemy types.

Adventureland would have Hyenas, Velociraptors, Carnotauruses, Yzma’s guards, and Clayton’s poachers, with us encountering Davy Jones’s crew as we get closer to him.

Actually, I was thinking of having Captain Hook and Yzma join up with the main group of villains in the regular game. In fact, Yzma was already a main character in the game. However, as much as I like the idea of having battles with Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, I'm not sure how much longer Splash Mountain will be around. With Disney pulling away from "Song of the South" as a whole, I'm not sure if the Br'er characters are a good idea.

Pete could be a "common" enemy, however. I would also throw in Tamatoa as one of the lesser villains (and maybe Barbossa, too), as well as have the Kakamora (the little coconut-looking pirate things from "Moana") as one of the many enemy types in Adventureland.

…yeah, and I also feel like movies like Dumbo might be hard to swallow as well. SOTS is one of the few movies Disney wants to totally bury, though, alongside a few others like Victory Through Air Power and Make Mine Music. Tamatoa as a lesser villain sounds nice too. Bent-Tail might be a good pick for Frontierland, really. Couldn’t think of many other villains that would work there. Some of the Aladdin villains spilling over from Adventureland could work. Mirage seems especially fitting.

Well, "Dumbo" doesn't really have an actual villain per se, at least not in the traditional sense, although they did try to make the Ringmaster a villain in the Villains Revenge CD-ROM game. I also would try not to go too wild on characters outside the regular movies. I think the only way Bent-Tail would work is if Pluto was involved somehow. I'm actually trying to make this something like "Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion", which involves, in part, a who's who of Disney characters to be saved.

I wanted to include characters from outside the movies because it’s surprisingly rare for Disney games to do that, and it could be a big draw for players.

I'm not really sure players would recognize who these non-movie characters are.

Nobody recognized Marth, the Ice Climbers, etc. before Melee.
That's Nintendo, though. This is Disney, very different.

I want this to be like the regular Sorcerers game. The only difference is that, while Florida's Magic Kingdom is the baseline for the game, it's not actually based on any one castle park, instead going more for something like an amalgamation of all the parks, rather like the Magic Kingdom online/app game, which has elements of all the various Disney parks throughout the world available. For example, you could have a battle with Dr. Facilier and his so-called "friends on the other side" in New Orleans Square.

As for non-movie characters, I think there's a reason we don't see them more in real Disney stuff with loads and loads of characters, such as "House of Mouse" or the Kingdom Hearts series.

That’s actually pretty cool.

Also, what is the reason about the non-movie characters not appearing as often in crossovers?

I just don't want this to become too fanfiction-like.
Okay, but you were implying there was another reason Disney themselves didn’t do it.

I feel like Bruno Madrigal has got to be on the list of characters to save.

There has to be a reason. Otherwise, they would be doing it. And there really needs to be some limits in what to do.

Yes, the "Encanto" characters could be included as some of the characters in the cards. At the very least, there would be Mirabel and Bruno.

I'm also thinking of having the cards be limited to certain characters. As I said, the plot would be something like "Sonic Adventures", in that you would play as Mickey, Donald and Goofy at different points of time. As such, they would each have different abilities and be able to summon different characters of their choosing.
