It appears from the pictures Steve posted that the giant tower behind the GMR that was used for the fireworks during the old MGM nightime show has disappeared. Does anyone know where it went? :lookaroun

Shameless bump

Anyone? Is it actually gone? Seems like big news for the Pixar Place footprint

I can not tell, but from the pictures seen, it is either been inclosed in one of those dividers or has been removed. Yeah, you no longer see the stairs or the giant Pirates poster over there in anyone's shots. Guess there is no chance of seeing Mickey up there anyways with that big hat.:hammer:

Anyone have a pic of it before it went gone. I dont recall it.
I noticed in the pictures that Steve posted that in those from early in the month you can see the tower behind a tree, but in the new pics he posted yesterday, you can see the tree but no tower. It is not only amazing they removed it and nobody noticed, but that tree did not lose even a leaf. Very environmentaly responsible of Disney :sohappy:

Its been unused for years, I was wondering when they were going to remove it and the firework launch tubes. Its a shame IMO. I never got to see Sorcery in the Sky. I learned about the Sorcerer Mickey effect while sitting backstage next to the tower talking to a pyrotechnician. He said they stopped using it because the inflatable started to deteriorate and was too expensive to replace. Oh well. Would have been nice to see it :(

Anyways, theres a picture of the 2 towers at the bottom of this page if you've never seen them before... http://www.wdwmagic.com/sorcery_in_the_sky.htm The Sorcerer Mickey tower was used for hanging giant TV and Movie posters right across from Narnia.

I might be missing something, but from the pics posted on this site, it looks to me like the towers are just enclosed now by that new blue wall.

A nice visual improvement I must say!

Sorcery is the Sky was actually my favorite of the fireworks shows at the time, mostly because of the Vincent Price narration and the great score. The inflatable Mickey was kinda cool, but certainly not a showstopper.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I have seen videos online... The narration and score is amazing. I'm a huge fireworks fan and would have loved to see the show with the original narration and score. The Inflatable Mickey would have been an added bonus. :D

SItS was scrapped in its original form since it was a traffic nightmare; the park had to be closed south of the Chinese Theatre due to its pyro fallout - indeed there were warning signs all around the backlot annex and Production Center warning of this. And a little show beginning with F had opened not so far away....

Yes, the original SitS was a truely stunning show - even more so watching it sat on the tarmac infront of the Chinese Theatre. A true Disney memory.

Interesting.. on that link provided.. (by jt04)

i was reading the updates.. and noticed there was some kind of spelling error.

12 February 2008: Latest Toy Story Mania construction photos

There is not a huge amount of external progress visible since our last update, but here are the latest photos. The majority of external work seems to be focussed on the meat and greet areas on the left hand side of Pixar Place. Thanks to Figment1986 for the photos.

The view from the One Man's Dream entry to Pixar Place.

meat and greet? :ROFLOL:

sry if i got off topic.

Wow, you can say that again. It's too bad the show is gone in some respects (personally I prefer Fantasmic) but the payoff when Pixar Place is done should be great. The towers would have really ruined the theming imo. I can't wait to see the final results this spring! Thanks Disney for doing this project right. WDW is really on a roll lately. :)

Well, the Studios can still host fireworks shows in the future without those two towers. Thew were strictly for the Mickey inflatable and the "fans" of fireworks that were seen behind the Chinese Theater. (I seem to recall there being two... The rainbow one during "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and a glittery one elsewhere in the show)

The rest of the fireworks were launched from five launch pads on top of the surrounding buildings.
You can see the pads here:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v...t=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=8135411&encType=1
There's three on top of the Great Movie Ride, and two on top of the Narnia/One Man's Dream complex. If you zoom in, you can see that the pads are devoid of any launch tubes, so they must only set them up when they actually need them.

But as another poster said, when the Studios runs a fireworks show, everything behind the GMR between Little Mermaid and New York Street must be shut down. While normally not a huge deal the past few years, that area now contains Pixar Place and would cause major problems...

Totally.I remember seeing that show for the first time and being simply dassled.Only seeing ROE for the first time has had the same effect.

I wonder what happened to the inflatible Mickey, though?
