It's not about what "deserves" to be nominated. It's what the Academy members pick.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got that nomination. It has a 45% approval rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Very true. And it still won't be nominated for best picture.

Now let me ask you if you think if it will get a best picture nomination?

Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct Spider-Man 4, with filming reportedly to being in early 2025:

"Destin Daniel Cretton is doing whatever a spider can.

The filmmaker behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in talks to sign on to direct Spider-Man 4. The move brings an end to speculation of who would spin the web for one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood.

Cretton will bring fresh blood to this iteration of Spider-Man, which stars Tom Holland and is a co-production between two separate studios, Sony and Disney-owned Marvel Studios. And it will make him the fourth director to take on a Spidey solo feature. Jon Watts directed the previous three Holland-starring movies, while Marc Webb helmed the two Amazing Spider-Man movies that starred Andrew Garfield. Sam Raimi directed the trilogy that featured Tobey Maguire."

Take it with a huge grain of salt, as it comes from unverified sources such as DanielRPK (you can check the interwebs if you want to read yourself).

Marvel and Sony are again renegotiating the terms of the Spider-Man deal. The new deal would have Tom Holland reprise the role for 6 more appearance, Spider-Man 4, 5, 6, Doomsday, Secret Wars, and an unnamed movie). The deal would also allow Marvel to use more of the villains in the MCU once Sony has used them in their films. There was also talk about Marvel getting a larger cut of the Sony films as they will be made under the Marvel Studios banner, but that one I'm less likely to believe.

We'll see how much of that is true if the deal becomes public, but if this is true that means Sony is really running on empty with their Spiderverse.
