Something Special for Mom

Ok, so my family is taking our annual trip to Disney this June! This one is going to be very bittersweet because we loss my dad in March to cancer(He LOVED Disney) and my mom retired the same month, so she's paying for about 15 or so of us to go out of her retirement incentive. She had planned to do this long before my dad passed unexpectedly. She's always been a giver, and I really want to do something very special and memorable for her when we get there.

It would be ideal when we all go to MK but I'm out of ideas on what I could do. Any suggestions or connections would be soooooo appreciated!

Thanks!

I guess the answer will really lie within your mom's interests. When we all wanted to do something special for my mom we gave her a spa day at the Grand Floridian. She got a massage, manicure, pedicure, and then was able to spend the rest of the day at the gym and spa relaxing. For my mom this was paradise because she loves that sort of thing.

Please accept my condolences regarding the loss of your father. Life is a cycle, and parts of it can be painful. Your mother sounds like a giving soul, and I think that a surprise or two would be nice. Perhaps everyone traveling on this trip can pitch-in and give her one of the various park tours available. One can be chosen according to her interest.
Also, perhaps you can have some type of memento made ahead of the trip, such as a special picture frame with a photo of your father and a poem of some kind imprinted. You can then treat her to a meal at one of the nicer restaurants, such as The California Grill, and present the item to her at some point during the meal. Sort of make it a “Dad’s night” type of thing.

DisneyInsider: Thanks! She just treated herself to the spa, and I think I really want to do something where everyone can be there, but that is a good idea.

rsoxguy: Thanks as well! I like the idea of presenting her with something during the trip or maybe when we get there. I'll probably try and stay away from going the emotional route, I hate seeing her cry, and Im sure that's exactly what will happen because we will be there during Fathers Day, so I know that will be difficult in itself. This is Disney so tears of Joy and Happiness are the only ones I'll allow :)

But thanks y'all for getting the ball rolling in my head.

How about a group private photo session. Then frame a few of them in Disney frames. Ones of just her Kids, then just the grandskids, one of just the guys and just the girls. Each family..I think you get the idea.

I am so sorry to hear about your father. A trip with 15 people will be a wonderful chance to build a lot of wonderful memories.

I guess the answer will really lie within your mom's interests.

I took my Mom on the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot because that it where her interests lie. I also took her to Sanaa to enjoy cuisine that she loves.
