Something bad happened to my reservation!

I had to vent about what happened to my hotel reservation, so here it goes...

In Oct 2008 I booked reservations for Feb 13-21 for All Star Movies for myself, hubby, and two boys (2 & 5). My son will be turning 6 on Feb 13, and this is his favorite resort. In Nov, I rebooked with my travel agent to include the 4/3 deal. I was so happy! My sister-in-law also booked her trip for herself, her 4 kids, my mother-in-law and her best friend for the same dates and same resort so we can spend time together. The last time she was in Disney, as soon as she got there my father-in-law passed away so she had to turn around and go home immediately. This was in April 2008. This will be my mother-in-law's first vacation EVER, plus she is disabled. I paid for the remainder of the trip in Jan and picked up my vouchers and everything looked great. That is the background.

Well, a week ago I decided to add a day to my reservation so we arrive on Feb 12 so that we will have all day on Feb 13th at the parks (my son's birthday). I called my travel agent and he added the day and told me to come in to pick up the new vouchers. I went to the agency a couple of days later (Thur) and the vouchers said All Star Sports. I told the secretary there was a mistake (my agent wasnt in that day). She said there wasnt a mistake, when he rebooked in Nov he changed the resort probably due to availability. I argued that my sister-in-law booked in Dec under that deal and had no problems getting into All Star Movies. Plus I said my original vouchers from Jan were correct. She told me he printed them wrong and if I hadnt added the extra day I would never had known we were actually booked for All Star Sports because my original vouchers were wrong. I left fuming. The next day my agent called saying oops my bad, now there is no availability at All Star Movies to switch me over. Now, it is one thing if it was just me, my hubby, and kids (although they wont be thrilled looking at sports stuff and will cry about not seeing herbie, buzz and woody). But we are meeting several other family members. This is a really important trip and now everyone is mad at me because I recommended this agent (who I always book through). My agent said oops he was sloppy with the codes and he'll get back to me about trying to get us all together somewhere else. Of course I havent heard from him and he hasnt returned my calls. I am really mad, sad, frustrated all at the same time.

(Or course I am still happy just to be going and very grateful that I still have the opportunity. And embarrased to be complaining :o)

Sorry to hear about that. :(

I always like to go directly through Disney reservations or if you're going to use an agent, anyone from Kingdom Konsultants seem to be the best around. :)

That is completely crap. However, look on the bright side- at least the resorts are literally right next to one another. I stayed at the Music last January and it is a very short walk across a parking lot to the Sports. You and your fam will be very close together.

That is the #1 reason I make all the reservations myself (if anyone else is going with us) at one time and I ALWAYS go through Disney Reservations. I'm always afraid, that if I have several people going with us, too many things can go wrong. I'm REALLY sorry you had to go through all that, though. Local travel agents may "think" they know the "ins & outs" of Disney, but IMO, only the ones at Disney can claim that. (although, thanks to this site, I did teach a couple of them some new things!)

That agency (agent) owes you big time. No way would I stand still for that. If your agent doesn't make it right, ask to speak to the owner/manager.

I had a similiar thing happen to me a few years back. I had make reservations through Disney directly for 2 rooms at Movies. I changed the dates from August to October. When I called 2 weeks before we left to re-confirm everything my girlsfriend's room had been completely canceled when we made the date change. Of course there was nothing at Movies for her. She would be staying in her room alone so I didn't feel comfortable letting her stay in Music all alone. we ended up switching both rooms to Pop and had a fantastic time.

Keep trying people cancel all the time and rooms open up.

I'm so sad for you! :( This kind of stuff just gets me fuming! I know we all make mistakes - but it really burns me when someone doesn't act sorry for their mistakes and this agent just doesn't seem to care that he did this to you. And when you are planning peoples vacations and dream trips, you can't make mistakes like this! First, I would call a CM at Disney directly and see if there is anything they can do. You may also want to call Kingdom Konsultants and see if there is anything they can do. If they can rebook you correctly, I would demand a full refund from the agency and if not threaten BBB or getting a lawyer involved. Essentially you went into a contract with this agency and they didn't keep their end - you have your origional vouchers and I typed in the wrong name just doesn't hold up. That is just me though. :) My DH would say what many people already have, it stinks and hopefully it will get fixed but just enjoy the trip.

I agree 100%!! I never trust someone else to make my reservations for me. I'm paranoid about that "human error" factor like this OP had. Same reason I prefer to ATM deposit than teller deposit. I trust what amount I key in rather than what a teller/encoding clerk keys in. Just too frustrating for me to deal with.

Here's my thought, if you know what you want...
Would you allow someone else to buy your car for you? Why let someone else book your hotel room then?
:lookaroun

(No offense to Kingdom Konsultants - which I've never used)

He made a simple mistake, yelling at him isn't going to change the situation. He can't wave a magic wand and make rooms appear. Just going in there flying off the handle won't make him try harder. I deal with trying to fix other peoples mistakes for my customers all day. The ones that are understanding and calm I am more eager the help them then the super angry yelling ones. Either refund your money or get a discount and keep the package. Don't let it ruin your vacation.

That sucks, and I really do hope that if you aren't given what you wanted, you'll be somehow compensated for it by your travel agent.
I have never used a travel agent, and I don't really see the advantage to using one when it comes to places that I comfortably know how to get information from. With WDW I feel like it's extremely easy to do 100% of the legwork, provided their website/booking is working. However, if it were somewhere I had never been before, most likely out of the country, then I would have to look into getting some outside/agency help.
I'd try to keep a little heat on your agent, it's obviously his fault, so he's the only one that can fix it. I'm not sure if it's allowed or not, but it can always help to call WDW yourself, there's got to be some wiggle room that opens every couple of days.

If nothing opens up, request a hotel change at check-in. There are always guests that do not show up, leaving occupancy open! And even if it doesn't work out, you'll still be with your family, on vacation, in Florida, at Disney, and that is all that really matters.

I got to say that I agree. The one time I let our Travel Agent make the arrangements, we had problems. Nothing major (we booked and paid for a Savannah view room at AKL but got a standard one - Disney quickly sorted it though)

To the OP. Keep trying, people cancel bookings all the time so you might get through. On the other hand, whilst it's not ideal, if you can't sort this out, at least you will still have an amazing vacation!

That stinks that this would happen to you through a travel agent. They, of all people, should know better. We have gone to WDW 6 times and I have always booked myself either online or by phone with absolutely no problems. That way, I am in charge of any changes. Hope this turns out the way you want it. :)

I completely understand people make mistakes. I know this guy and I know he has a family. I always acted kind, understanding, and respectful. I spoke with him last night and he told me he would try to make it right and I told him that I did not want him to get in trouble with his company in anyway. (I really care about people keeping their jobs especially in this economy. Even if it was a sloppy mistake, at least we are still going to Disney!!! Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human. This was a really stupid mistake but its just a trip! I'm thankful we can go on a trip, still have our home, and my husband is still employed.)

As for flying off the handle, I would NEVER do that to anyone. Although I said I was fuming with the secretary, I was never disrespectful or even loud. Just teary eyed.

So far my agent said no availability (again), but said they comped us the extra night and is giving us a $300 travel credit through the corporation. This, in addition with the pin code I just received for 40% off, will make our late summer trip more affordable. As for not using the agency in the future, they are actually cheaper than Disney. They use a price beat method and I usually save $50-$100 less than Disney quotes. I'm starting to think I would rather pay that extra money though to make sure the package is correct.

I'll keep you posted...

I also want to say sorry this happened to you.

As a Travel Agent and a huge Disney Fan myself, I can tell you that sometimes there are mistakes. Even doing it yourself on the phone or online there could be mistakes.

Before I was a travel agent I called 407-WDISNEY to make a reservation at AS Movies. I payed and got a confirmation number. All is good right, well the guy on the phone screwed up and told me Movies but it was actually Sports. I go to Movies and check in with a tired wife and daughter at 11:30 p.m. and they do not have the reservation. Finally they found it at Sports and we had to go there.

Human error can happen at any stage. Make the agent send you an email confirmation, and then check it to make sure everything is ok.

Like a previous poster said, at least you're in WDW.

When I saw the post was from NY, I just KNEW you were going to make a HUGE deal out of a minor mistake. Why don't you ask for an upgrade to a nicer hotel? Why don't you teach your kids to go with the flow? Like, if the economy were to tank and they lost a job?
I know! Being from NY, there ought to be a couple hundred shyster attorneys walking up and down the street....you could sue the travel agent for gross negligence and damage for your children. And you could sue disney for allowing this travesty of injustice to prevail. Probably get Schumer involved too.
