Someone is accusing Disney of "paying off critics" to attack nonMCU films

By now you've probably heard the conspiracy theory that Disney are paying off film critics to blindly praise Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and slag off everything else in the superhero film spectrum. Now, with the not-too-glowing reviews of Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse having dropped late last night, the theory has reared its head again. A Change.org petition has even been launched, under the title 'Stop Disney from paying critics'.

Here's an extract from the blurb that urges you to sign...

"Disney has been continually paying critics to attack Non MCU movies. MCU movies are safe. They're not challenging at all. Just like a comic book movie is "supposed to be". They're not divisive or thought provoking. First they bashed Batman V Superman. They cleared BvS out of the way, gave Civil War (which wasn't a perfect film) an Oscar, now they're going to work on moving Apocalypse out the way...then they get offended when they're accused of accepting gifts. Deadpool would have also suffered the same fate however it was released in February and was not an immediate threat."

It's also stated that "We need to raise awareness of this global plan to keep our films creative or risk have everything fall under the Disney label."

Here's the petition if you wish to see it

It's not Disney's fault for affording to hire phenomenal screen writers, directors, producers and actors. This petition is stupid simply because the individual who started it must have no knowledge that Disney applies this strategy in all their brands. Everything has to be a conspiracy theory nowadays.

This right here is why I love Disney. They don't go cheap when it comes to movies, at least the ones on the big screen, whether it's Star Wars or Pixar or whatever other studio.

Not that I think this has even a smidge of credence, but it is worth noting that a lot of the top trending youtube critics are employed by Maker Studios...which is owned by the Mouse.

This makes even less sense when you know X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Deadpool all have approval ratings above 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I suspect many forget that Deadpool wasn't Disney...

That said, they did do a few things in the movie that tied it to the Marvel/Disney collaborations and keep it in universe.

There excuse is that it wasn't direct competition. Yeah right.

Movies don't really have to come out around the same time to be considered competition.

Man, these DC fan boys are taking this to a whole 'nother level. Lol pathetic

Did you stop reading the article after BvS was mentioned? Lol just saying X-Men or Deadpool, which both were mentioned, arent DC.

Deadpool got 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and made good money, #2 highest R rated film. The person who wrote this is so dumb they used a highly rated popular film as evidence Disney is evil.

Well then, I guess Bruce Wayne might want to dig into his philanthropic pockets and up the ante a bit. He may have "Stark money" and buy off his own set of critics.

That doesn't even make sense. They're too cheap.

Captain America: Civil War had the same budget as Batman vs Superman. Man of Steel's budget was 5 million more than the first Avengers film. It's more of poor writing and or acting than anything else.

Well to be fair, i dont think anyone expected Deadpool to be that successful.
