Here, you can see a Carnival cruise ship in front of us. That's as close as they got to the glacier. They did not go into the cove or inlet or whatever to get a close-up view. We went much closer. I felt kind of bad for them, to be honest.

Here was our view from Deck 10:

This guy was just hanging out as we passed by in Tracy Arm:

The view from our veranda. Unfortunately, I'm not a good enough photographer to pull this off very well. The Tracy Arm glacier is in the background, but is mostly washed out :(

So at dinner one night, I forgot to bring the camera, so my wife asks if I would go back to the room to get it. No problem. I'm walking down the corridor on Deck 6 and about 8-10 crew members RUN past me. I'm trying to figure out what's going on when one of them shouts to another crew member, "Whales!! Whales!!" So I grab my camera out of the room and head up to Deck 4 to see these guys:

They stayed with us for quite a while. After I snapped a couple pictures, I went back to the restaurant, told my family about the whales, and they were still there when my wife and daughter got outside. That was pretty fun. (And almost as many whales as we saw on our entire whale watch.)

Here are a couple just around the ship. This first one is just to show the bunting to celebrate the 4th of July:

I had the same problem! I was trying to get a good pic of my kids with the glacier in the background for our Christmas card pic, but I could not get it to turn out. I have a fancy camera that I really need to learn how to use!
Thanks for posting your pictures! It is making me want to go back!!

Ok, some pictures from Skagway. This was my favorite stop on this cruise, as well as on the cruise the my wife and I took years ago for our 10th anniversary. Skagway, to me, is by far the most interesting of the ports on most Alaska itineraries.

These first few are from our bike trip through the rain forest to a glacier plain.

More from Skagway.

In another thread (maybe her trip report), I asked Tammy if she saw the pocket watch painted on the mountain wall. Since she hadn't seen it, here's a picture. This is basically what amounted to a billboard in old-time Skagway. The trees were cut down for lumber to build the city, leaving big patches of bare rock. The business owners saw this as a great place to advertise. So here's the oldest surviving billboard in Skagway. :)

And here's my wife and daughter in front of the actual store, with the Wonder in the background:

My daughter with a little too much moose in her hair:

This is a snowplow that is attached to the front of the train to clear the tracks after heavy snow. It's now only used once a year, ceremoniously. But I just think it's so cool, had to post it.

Self-explanatory :)
