solo trip

I've decided on a whim to go to Disney for the weekend--alone. :) A birthday present to me. I've been to the parks a dozen times (last visit--01/01/00), and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

In addition, can anyone tell me if the Rock 'n' Roller coaster is a smooth ride?

Thanks!

BTW, I leave for the airport 6 am on Friday!

welcome, mighty duck. and happy birthday. what a great treat for yourself!

i don't know anything about you, so it's difficult for me to give you advice. but if i were at wdw on my own, i would do take the time to enjoy those things i usually can't enjoy for long periods of time because i'm with my kids. the world showcase in epcot, for example.

by myself, i could take a closer look at the artifacts on display in mexico. chat with the improv troupe in england. just sit and listen to the bands. i imagine i could make a day of that.

then i'd go to future world and push all the kids out of the way so i can play video games. kidding, of course.

on the second day, i'd go to the magic kingdom. i'd hit the e-ticket rides -- splash mountain, space mountain, alien encounter (or whatever it's called) and just stroll around.

have fun!

thanks, dopey

Thanks, dopey. I had forgotten about the improv troupe in the UK pavilion! I have no children, so I'm just looking to have fun for a few days. I'm never spontaneous (unless I schedule it in advance), so for me to decide today to go to Disney on Friday is a bit out of character. In keeping with that, I'm looking to try things a little different than what I would normally try (although I travel alone often on business). That's why I asked about the Rock'n'roller coaster--not usually my thing, but what the heck. As long as it's not too jarring. I hate that. :)

Thanks again for your suggestions. This is tame compared to the rest of the things I've been doing to celebrate (or deny!) the big 30.

mightyduck...

welcome....I am the local tramp....if u need any advice on how to get by on the streets of Disney, scrounging for left-overs, hanging by the pub, nipping at the ankles of people you don't like ....just ask.

also....I just love spontaniety that is planned....don't you?

Oh....rockin roller coaster is a baby's ride....very smooth...it's just a little faster than It's a Small World but the scenery is a bit more intense. It's the type of ride you can just sit back, relax, and listen to the classical music they play.

Promise you will report back on this board all your experiences...

Have fun...say hello to Mickey for me....I will see him in a couple of weeks.

thanks!

Thanks, tramp, I'll keep you in mind if I need advice on getting by alone in the World! :)

If the Rock'n'Roller coaster is a smooth ride, I think I'll try it. I just hate being bounced around too much. And I love classical music--I saw the boys from Boston two weeks ago (more of my 30 celebration/panic), and that's what made me think the ride could be cool....Of course, I also went to see the Backstreet Boys at the Today show this week, too (I wasn't sure who they were, and figured only an idiot would go--I was disappointed in how tame the crowd of screaming 12 year olds was).

I will definitely say hi to mickey and tell him you'll see him soon....And I'll report back upon my return!

Thanks!

Hi there mightyduck. RnR will also cater for your love of classical music.

I would be careful just how much info you ask for from Tramp. I mean he's a nice guy and all that, but would you listen to someone who spends the day smelling other peoples pants!

Hope you have a great trip,

LOL! Thanks, Markymark. I actually meant I would ask tramp for help if I needed help with things only a dirty dog would know...

Ok, then, I'll give the RnR a try. What's the worst that can happen? Usually I get sick when I go upside down on a ride, but I haven't tried it in years (although that's probably not something that gets better with age!).

Woohoo! I'm going to Disneyworld!

Its a must that you try RnR! U probaly wont even tell ur going upside down at all. It is a very smooth coaster. If u can handle space Mt jerkyness u can handle this. and the start of this ride is great.

Thanks, Jay-Rod. I keep telling myself it's only 1:22. I can do it! I love Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain RR, both a little tame, and I even like ToT. Many years ago I got sick on Big Bad Wolf (it may have been the 104 degree temps that day) and I embarassed myself (and my family) screaming my head off on The Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa about 12 years ago (the ride operator asked if I was the one making all that racket--which I was).

And I'll give your regards to Mickey and tell him to prepare for you arrival. :)

Thanks again!

This trip to Disney is part of my 30th BD celebration/denial, just one of a series of ridiculous adventures I've undertaken lately. The birthday isn't for another month yet...still 29.

>>lol 22 days left

But who's counting, right?;)

That's the beauty of the last-minute getaway--no obsessing over planning or going crazy with anticipation. On the downside, it hasn't left me much time to finish the laundry. I leave the house for the airport in less than 17 hours.

Yikes!

I better go make a list of stuff and get shopping...

Mr Lightbeer

I'm with Tramp on this one , what we like best about RnR is that it's a ride that you can take your ice-cream with you .Try it mighty duck, just sit back enjoy the music lick that ice-cream and enjoy the tranquility of it all. Those ice-creams are so yummy it'll be gone by the first bend.

If I'm eating ice cream on a roller coaster, I figured I should wear expensive, breathable natural fibers for maximum comfort. ;)

Sorry for the confusion.
