Day 6: Open Day I
This morning, I had breakfast ressies at Boma. I was looking forward to it, I had dinner their in January and was interested to see what all the hype was about for breakfast. Well my day got off to a pretty bad start...
I took the AK bus to AK, then the bus to AKL. My ressie was at 8:40am, I was at AK at 8:40am and I did not get to AKL until 8:50am. I was worried I would loose my place. Once I got on the bus, it took no time, minutes. However, I did not know their were 2 different bus stops at AKL. The 1st stop drops off at DVC - I got off there. When I walked in, I knew it looked different but couldnt tell for sure. I asked a CM where was Boma and they looked at me crazy - "Are you a DVC member?" I said NO, I am looking for Boma for breakfast. "Do you have a reservation and at what time?" I said 840am, the lady replied - too bad, I hope you can get a seat still because you are in the wrong building. You need to be on the oposite side of the property and asked did I have a car - I replied, NO. The manager at the front desk overheard my dismay - he got a CM to get a van and drop me off at the AKL side where Boma was at. Just a note for those who take the bus to AKL - Boma is the 2nd stop not the 1st.
Once arriving at Boma - the atmosphere did not feel right. Something seemed off - no pun intended. The African lady whom seats you did not have smile on her face at all. She was the greeter - so that did not sit well with me. But everyone has a bad day. Once I got inside, because I was a single diner, I do not feel I got the same service as everyone else. I was placed at a table for 4 and the manager clearly was upset that I got placed there but did not move me. I would have been fine at the single tables along the window- they were empty. However, my table afforded me to overhear and observe the treatmeant of the African workers from the manager.
On several occasions during my meal, I heard the manager raise his voice at the African waiters and waitresses. In a very crude, demeaning way. One waitress went off to the side and I could see she was ready to cry. I did not understand why he was being so mean to them. Now the "majority" workers, were all smiles and happy. But again, the atmosphere was just off today.
I got my food. The food was good - not the greatest. However, I was sickned when I got up for a 2nd helping of eggs to find hair in the dish. I immediately told the chef whom quitely removed it and it was replaced. The dish was empty and no one saw the hair in it. I was disgusted.
Overall, Boma for breakfast was ok - I do not have to return their. Or for Dinner. I think you should expeirence it once.
I then walked around the grounds..
I then headed to the Animal Kingdom with intentions on riding EE and the Safari.
It was hot and packed this morning.
I took some time to walk around the Oasis...
A parrot had escaped and a CM rushed to get it back to its habitat - she told everyone to stand back because she was a bitter.
I did the Bug Show, walked to the Safari (the line was too long). Then went to EE, the stand by wait was 90 minutes. The single entrance was 50 minutes (this made me mad because there were a ton of groups in line). But in the end, it did not matter, the line broke down right as I was about to get on (45 minutes later).
I then left the Animal Kindom - it was nothing more for me to see there. I boarded the bus for the Magic Kingdom and stayed for a couple of hours. Went back to POP and relaxed. I had dinner ressies for OHana at 810pm.
Here is where another journey began... I left for the Polynesian resort around 645pm on the MK bus. It was not raining but by the time I got to the MK- the absolute WORST of the WORSEST hurricare rain was pouring down. The walkways outside of the MK was flooded - I was knee deep in water. I then got on the monorail to the Polynesian only for it to stop for about 20 minutes because of traffic in the sky. When I did get to OHana, I was close to 40 minutes late.
However, I was seated with a PERFECT view of the castle. I was seated at a 4 seater again, no worries though. I ordered my drinks and the food came. SOOOO MUCH FOOD. This was my 2nd dinner here and it was DELICIOUS!! A lot of food for a solo but I ate all of it. This is a must each trip.
A highlight to my dinner was when the fireworks began - the music is piped into the dining room and my view was perfect. It truly was a magical evening.
I then headed back to the MK for Spectromagic and redid some of my favorite rides.
Next up.. my FINAL FULL DAY...
