Solo Trip Report: May 18th - May 25, 2009 (with photos)

Whew... after months of planning - my Disneyworld vacation has come and gone. Originally I was going to Disneyworld with my partner, but, he decided to not go. I ended up going SOLO. And let me tell you... I suggest everyone take at least one solo vacation in their lifetimes. At first I was hesitant about being alone - however, I quickly realized, I was not alone and that I was in for the time of my life!!!!

I will start with Day 1 and the other days gradually in different posts.

My wonderful solo trip report begins now... ENJOY!!!!!

PS... sorry about the photos being so large.

Day 1 (Monday, May 18, 2009

For the 2nd time, I flew AirTran Airways to MCO. I have read so many complaints about AirTran, but I have to be the first to say, they are PHENOMENAL!! My flight arrived to MCO about 20 minutes early (11:15am). When my flight was about to land, we were feet away from the runway when we suddently flew back into the air and circled the airport for about 15 minutes because their was a storm on the front and we could not land. I knew the weather during my vacation was not going to be the best. I had packed 2 cheap ponchos from Wal-Mart and a heavier rain coat, and I was so glad I did. The rain this week was hurricane like and lasted ALL DAY!! It was nice to not worry about my baggage as I was taking the Magical Express (I was a little worried though, this was my 1st time taking ME - I was scared my bags were not going to make it to my room later in the day).

Upon getting to the main terminal, I located the ME check in area. It was PACKED. However, I was pointed to a shorter line and got into the Pop Century line. I was a little embarressed, I was the only solo person (of hundreds). But, that did not phase me. I waited for the ME bus for about 30 minutes - it was not that bad of a wait, it was clear I had just missed the bus so I was not upset.

Disneyworld2009003.jpg

Magical Express: It was so nice to not have to rent a car (I normally do). ME was professional, I enjoyed the video on the bus and it got me even more excited to be on the happiest place on earth. The amount of transport time from the airport to the entrance of WDW was probally about 20 to 30 minutes (it did not feel that long though). The 1st stop was to Carribbean Beach. The 2nd stop was to Pop Century and I was anxious to arrive at my resort!!! I tipped the bus drive a couple of dollars, he was great!

Disneyworld2009001.jpg

Disneyworld2009002.jpg

Check In at Pop Century:
I had completed the online check in option before I left and boy was I glad I did. The regular line was LONG! The online check in line was empty. I was eager to see how the new service worked. The guy who checked me in was GREAT!!! My packet was ready to go with all my information in the folder including my card and quick service meal information. I was also happy that my room was ready. He told me my luggage would be in my room by 5pm that evening. I got my mug from the food court and was off to my room. I was in my room and settled by 130pm. The total time from landing in MCO to my room was a little over 2 hours. I was highly pleased!!!

My room was located in the 50s section, at check in I was told it was the best on property because I could see the Illuminations fireworks. Much to my surprise, I also had a view of the lake, the Epcot ball, Swan hotel and Tower of Terror. I loved it!!! The daily walk from the 50s section to the main building was no more than 10 minutes (it was a quick and easy walk).

Disneyworld2009012.jpg

Disneyworld2009022.jpg

Quick Service Plan:
I had added this option at the last minute, I will give more thoughts about this later, I will just say it is A LOT of food.

Magic Kingdom here I come...

Day 1: Magic Kingdom

Disneyworld2009026.jpg

Magic Kingdom: I arrived at the Magic Kingdom around 330pm. I thought I had missed the afternoon parade but due to the rain storm, it was delayed. I caught the last of it and it was a nice welcome to my vacation.

Disneyworld2009039.jpg

After the parade, the MK began to empty out because of the rain. I immediately headed to Caseys for lunch. DELICIOUS!!! It was then about 430pm and thanks to TOURING PLANS, I had a detailed plan of what I wanted to do each day!!!

I got a Fastpass for Splash Mountain then got on Jungle Cruise, then got a Fastpass for BTMR and saw Country Bears. I then had more food at Pecos Bills (the taco salad was not that great). I then headed to Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Its A Small World, Snow White, Riverboard, etc.

Disneyworld2009067.jpg

Disneyworld2009112.jpg

Disneyworld2009119.jpg

Disneyworld2009125.jpg

By 830pm, I had completed 90% of my Magic Kingdom TO DO LIST. It was then time for dole whip, popcorn, Spectromagic and the fireworks!!!

Disneyworld2009958.jpg

Disneyworld20091820.jpg

Disneyworld20091791.jpg

I was out of the MK by 1130pm and return to POP for a late dinner. I returned to the room to see my luggage had safely arrived and unpacked my things.

Off to bed for a long day at Epcot on Tuesday for Morning EMHs.

Day 2: Epcot

I woke up at 6am and was out the door by 650am. I went to the food court for Breakfast, this was my 1st breakfast meal in years. I do not like breakfast but I figured I needed the energy to get my day started. I got the Breakfast Platter daily, it was rather tasty and cheap. I ran into the downfall of having the dining plan - I could have used my Tables in Wonderland discount card in the cafeteria, I did once and my breakfast was only $5. The cafeteria was rather empty - I was in and out by 715am. The bus for Epcot came at 720am and I was their by 730am.

Disneyworld2009189.jpg

Disneyworld2009288.jpg
Disneyworld2009283.jpg

Disneyworld2009285.jpg

Disneyworld2009290.jpg

Because it was EMorningHs and relatively bad weather, the entrance was empty. I ended up at the front of the ticket line and by 745am, they let us in and ushered us to a rope drop close to Soarin. During this time, the cast members entertained and told us about everything going on at Epcot that day.

Disneyworld2009194.jpg

At 8am, the rope dropped and I was at the front of the line to Soarin. Everyone must walk calmly and WALK which I appreciated. Once we got to Soarin, I was at the front of the line and the 2nd to get on (behind the First Family). It was great, I LOVE THAT RIDE!!!

Disneyworld2009265.jpg

I was out of their by 820am and was off to Test Track (I got a FP) and then went to Mission Space. I was out of their by 8:45am and got a snack just in time for my return time to Test Track at 910am. I do have a suggestion for Disney, I am a large sized guy - I had no trouble on any of the rides. However, the biggest problem was on Test Track. They need to get some Seat Belt Extenders on the ride because I had the hardest time buckeling the seat belt. Luckily, the girl next to me was nice enough to do it for me and even she struggled.

I could not beleive that I had completed the 3 main attractions at Epcot by 930am. This was thanks to Touring Plans.

I then had a drink and headed over to Nemo. I love the aquarium more than the ride itself.

Disneyworld2009242.jpg

Disneyworld2009246.jpg

I then headed to Journey into Imagination, Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Then I lunched at The Land (DELICIOUS FOOD), took the boat ride and finally did Universe of Energy.

Disneyworld2009275.jpg

I was done with the entire Future World by 230pm. I could not beleive it. Touring Plans had did it again for me!!!

I left Epcot to return to Pop Century to rest. The weather was still bad so no pool. However, I was introduced to the delicious cheesesteak wrap, OMG - IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD!!!

Epcot Part II next...

Day 2: World Showcase at Epcot

I returned to Epcot around 7pm (well rested). I have never taken in the beauty of World Showcase and for the 1st time, I did just that. The bad weather did not stop me.

Disneyworld2009261.jpg

I started in Canada. In the million times I have been to Disneyworld, I have never went around Canada. To my surprise, I found a waterfall in the back. I never knew that was their and fell in love with it!

Disneyworld2009306.jpg

The 360 movie on Canada is the best in all of World Showcase. It was inviting and now I want to go their!!! I wish they would add a counter service restaurant, that would add to the beauty of the country - but I loved the surroundings.

Disneyworld2009321.jpg

Next I headed to the UK, not much to see. But I enjoyed looking at the flowers from the festival.

Disneyworld2009337.jpg

The rain began to pour by 820pm and it got cold.
Disneyworld2009371.jpg

Disneyworld2009362.jpg

Disneyworld2009356.jpg

I then watched an abbreviated version of Illuminations. Understandable because the weather was that bad. However, it was a beautiful show nonetheless.

After Epcot, I boarded the boat to the Beach Club for Beaches and Cream. DELICIOUS!!!!

Disneyworld2009374.jpg

LOL, no Kitchen Sink for me but I enjoyed watching 3 other tables attempt to get through it all.

After Dinner, I knew I would be in for a treat with transportation getting back to Pop Century. Well let me tell you, I waited for a bus from the Beach Club to Downtown Disney for about 45 minutes. I was wet from the rain, and cold from the front - it was miserable. Once the bus came, I was back at Pop Century within 20 minutes. Next time, I will take a cab and pay the extra money if I do not have a car. Transportation at the Beach Club does not seem on point.

The end to another great day, next up..

Animal Kingdom..

Day 3: Animal Kingdom (May 20, 2009)

I had breakfast in the food court and was on the bus by 820am headed to the Animal Kingdom.

The weather seemed to break this day, their was actually sun this morning and it was HOT!! :ROFLOL:Boy, was I in for a surprise later on.

Disneyworld2009375.jpg

Disneyworld2009378.jpg

After getting in the park, everyone was ushered to the oasis for the opening rope drop show (I did not even know their was show here). It was great!!!

Disneyworld2009381.jpg

Disneyworld2009383.jpg

Disneyworld2009387.jpg

After rope drop, I headed to Kilimanjaro Safaris and was on by 920am. I think every animal listed was out this morning. It was PERFECT. I highly suggest getting on this ride as soon as the park opens.

Disneyworld2009417.jpg

Disneyworld2009410.jpg

Disneyworld2009404.jpg

Disneyworld2009401.jpg

I then headed to the Forrest Trail - I never took the time to look around here and was rather impressed.

It was then off to Kali River Rapids (I remember this ride being longer, but oh well, it was fun nonetheless). Followed by the Tiger Trail.

It was time for Nemo at 1145am, let me tell you, this was my 1st time seeing the show - it was the greatest show I have seen on Disney property to date (in that category).

I then got a fast pass for Dinosaur and had lunch at the resturant in Dinoland USA. Then I stood in what was posted as a 30 minute wait for Primeval Whirl (I was in line for over an hour).

I got on Dinasaur and headed to

I got on Dinosaur and when I got off - hurricane rain had come. I was soaked in matter of 20 minutes even with my preparation. It did not stop me. I headed to Pizzafari for food (not that great), I should have followed board advice and went to CS Yak & Yeti. Afterwards, it was time for the Lion King Show - it gets off to a slow boring start but picks up towards the middle with a fabulous finale.

After the show, I walked back to Africa hoping to get on the safari again - but it was closed because of the weather. Then walked to EE, it was also closed due to weather. I then left (about 430pm) and returned to POP to dry off and rest. I had intentions on returning to AK during EMHs, but the weather was still bad, I figured it would be a waste. The only thing I did not do was EE, I could do it another day.

Day 3: Hollywood Studios

I got to utilize my Annual Pass park hopping option when I went to Hollywood Studios on my 3rd night. I arrived around 9pm.

I rode RnRC for the 1st time and let me tell you, IT WAS PHENOMENAL. The ride itself lasts seconds but it was not as bad as I had thought. The hardest part is the take off (make sure you are on an empty stomach). Because I was a single rider, I waited no more than 5 minutes in the que, the regular line was 40 minutes.

After RnRC, I got popcorn and snacks and stood in line for Fantasmic. The rain had cleared, I was happy. The 1030 show is less crowded than the 9pm. It took forever for the 9pm audience to leave.

Disneyworld2009597.jpg

Just as the finale boat was about the come out, it began to pour raining. My favorite part about the show is the streamers the characters use on the boat, but I guess because of the inclement weather, they could not use them. It was still a great show nontheless.

Disneyworld2009603.jpg

Next up.. a full day at Hollywood Studios.

I am LOVING your trip report! Thank you so much for posting. I do have a quick question however. You noted that you got a fastpass for Test Track. Dont they have a single rider line there?
Your pictures are great by the way! Keep them coming!

Day 5: Hollywood Studios

I had an early start this morning - I was on the bus by 810am headed to Hollywood Studios. When I arrived, I was amazed at the lines. It was PACKED! Beyond Packed. Once I made my way through the ticket, I etched my way to the front of the line at the rope (a plus to being solo) and I ended up right behind the rope.

Here are some pictures of everyone behind the rope at 845am, the pictures do not even justify how packed it really was.

Disneyworld2009647.jpg

Disneyworld2009641.jpg

After the boring opening show - they kept up behind the rope well beyond 9am.

The rope dropped and everyone was neatly escorted to Toy Story Midway Mania. Again, I ended up at the front of the line. I was a little skeptical of this ride, I had brushed it off as nothing more than Buzz Lightyear at MK. Boy was I wrong. I LOVED THIS RIDE. It is not only entertaining but you play some favorite midway games. When I got out, their was already a 40 minute wait and the line wrapped along the street.

I then headed to RnRC and Tower of Terror. Again, I had completed the 3 main attractions by 10am. Touring Plans had did it again!!!

Disneyworld2009665.jpg

I then headed to the Great Movie Ride, Mermaid Show and Backlot Tour.

Disneyworld2009685.jpg

Disneyworld2009699.jpg

I used to love this ride. However, the computer audio track has completely taken away from the individuality of the ride. It is almost pointless now and a waste of space at Hollywood Studios.

I then headed to lunch at Backlot Express and realized, I was done with Hollywood Studios (it was only 12 noon). I had no desire to do any of the shows (except Beauty and the Beast but passed on it).

It was early and I was not tired. I decided to board the bus and check out the geyser at the Wilderness Lodge.

Disneyworld2009756.jpg

After exploring the resort, I asked a cast member where was the geyser he pointed to it and said, its no point in looking at it. It had not been working for the past couple of days and that the Wilderness Lodge refused to put a sign saying it was malfunctioning. When I walked past it, their was about 30 people waiting for the geyser to go off, one woman said she had been waiting an hour. This was a slip of Disney. Nonetheless, this is a nice hotel but the guests their were very snobby.

Anywho, I took the boat to the Magic Kingdom.

Disneyworld2009770.jpg

I did not really do anything here, I just ate and relaxed. The wait times for the rides were LONG... hour or more waits for all the main attractions.

Then headed back to Pop Century to sleep. Later that night, I went back to Hollywood Studios.

I re-rode my favorite rides and watched Fantasmic.

Next up... Epcot World Showcase day.

Yes, I got a FP for Test Track. I really did not need it as the ride was empty at 9am. Next time, I am getting a FP when I get off of Soarin so I can return to it later in the day. Thank you for the compliments on my TR.

Day 5: World Showcase

This morning, I took it easy. After waking up early every day, I was able to sleep in a little later today. It was much needed.

Around, 11am, I headed to World Showcase for my 1st Annual "Eat around the World" competition. I was on a empty stomach so I was prepared!!!

Disneyworld2009803.jpg

I began at the UK - for Fish and Chips. The place was not open - I guess they open at 1130am. It was line developing. I got my food and sat behind the resturant along the lake at the tables where I had a lovely view of the World Showcase Lagoon.
Disneyworld2009817.jpg

Disneyworld2009819.jpg

Disneyworld2009816.jpg

Disneyworld2009814.jpg

The Fish and Chips were GREAT!!!

Disneyworld2009823.jpg

Then the unthinkable happened, I was attacked by a squirrel. As I was eating my food, a squirrel jumped from behind the bush onto the table. I was sharing a table with a family with a little boy. The squirrel jumped onto the little boys arm and he began screaming. The family immediately left. I couldnt leave as fast because I had my things spread out everywhere. It was clear the squirrel was not afraid of humans and wanted my food. After he tried to jump on me, I got up from the table but my food was left on the table, he jumped in my ketchup and fries, took a fry and ran back in the bush. I quickly removed my tray and left the area. LOL :king:

Here is the proof...

After my attack, I headed to Morocco. I have never eaten here but let me tell you, the Chicken wrap was DELICIOUS!!!

It was off to Japan for desert (I do not like their CS).

Disneyworld2009883.jpg

Disneyworld2009864.jpg

Disneyworld2009870.jpg

I was getting stuffed. I watched the American Adventure Show (it was quite interesting). Then the hurricane rain came again and lasted all night long.

I headed to China...

Disneyworld2009888.jpg

Disneyworld2009887.jpg

China and Mexico has the best CS food - but that is just my opinion. The ice cream in China was DELICIOUS!!!!

After eating, I was stuffed and could not eat another bite. The rain was coming down so hard and I was soaked, I left and returned to POP. I had intentions on coming back to Epcot that night for EMHs but I did not wake up until 1030pm - by that time it was pointless.

Day 6: Open Day I

This morning, I had breakfast ressies at Boma. I was looking forward to it, I had dinner their in January and was interested to see what all the hype was about for breakfast. Well my day got off to a pretty bad start...

I took the AK bus to AK, then the bus to AKL. My ressie was at 8:40am, I was at AK at 8:40am and I did not get to AKL until 8:50am. I was worried I would loose my place. Once I got on the bus, it took no time, minutes. However, I did not know their were 2 different bus stops at AKL. The 1st stop drops off at DVC - I got off there. When I walked in, I knew it looked different but couldnt tell for sure. I asked a CM where was Boma and they looked at me crazy - "Are you a DVC member?" I said NO, I am looking for Boma for breakfast. "Do you have a reservation and at what time?" I said 840am, the lady replied - too bad, I hope you can get a seat still because you are in the wrong building. You need to be on the oposite side of the property and asked did I have a car - I replied, NO. The manager at the front desk overheard my dismay - he got a CM to get a van and drop me off at the AKL side where Boma was at. Just a note for those who take the bus to AKL - Boma is the 2nd stop not the 1st.

Disneyworld2009895.jpg

Once arriving at Boma - the atmosphere did not feel right. Something seemed off - no pun intended. The African lady whom seats you did not have smile on her face at all. She was the greeter - so that did not sit well with me. But everyone has a bad day. Once I got inside, because I was a single diner, I do not feel I got the same service as everyone else. I was placed at a table for 4 and the manager clearly was upset that I got placed there but did not move me. I would have been fine at the single tables along the window- they were empty. However, my table afforded me to overhear and observe the treatmeant of the African workers from the manager.

On several occasions during my meal, I heard the manager raise his voice at the African waiters and waitresses. In a very crude, demeaning way. One waitress went off to the side and I could see she was ready to cry. I did not understand why he was being so mean to them. Now the "majority" workers, were all smiles and happy. But again, the atmosphere was just off today.

I got my food. The food was good - not the greatest. However, I was sickned when I got up for a 2nd helping of eggs to find hair in the dish. I immediately told the chef whom quitely removed it and it was replaced. The dish was empty and no one saw the hair in it. I was disgusted.

Overall, Boma for breakfast was ok - I do not have to return their. Or for Dinner. I think you should expeirence it once.

I then walked around the grounds..

Disneyworld2009898.jpg

I then headed to the Animal Kingdom with intentions on riding EE and the Safari.

It was hot and packed this morning.

I took some time to walk around the Oasis...

Disneyworld2009944.jpg

Disneyworld2009931.jpg

Disneyworld2009933.jpg

A parrot had escaped and a CM rushed to get it back to its habitat - she told everyone to stand back because she was a bitter.

Disneyworld2009922.jpg

Disneyworld2009924.jpg

I did the Bug Show, walked to the Safari (the line was too long). Then went to EE, the stand by wait was 90 minutes. The single entrance was 50 minutes (this made me mad because there were a ton of groups in line). But in the end, it did not matter, the line broke down right as I was about to get on (45 minutes later).

I then left the Animal Kindom - it was nothing more for me to see there. I boarded the bus for the Magic Kingdom and stayed for a couple of hours. Went back to POP and relaxed. I had dinner ressies for OHana at 810pm.

Here is where another journey began... I left for the Polynesian resort around 645pm on the MK bus. It was not raining but by the time I got to the MK- the absolute WORST of the WORSEST hurricare rain was pouring down. The walkways outside of the MK was flooded - I was knee deep in water. I then got on the monorail to the Polynesian only for it to stop for about 20 minutes because of traffic in the sky. When I did get to OHana, I was close to 40 minutes late.

However, I was seated with a PERFECT view of the castle. I was seated at a 4 seater again, no worries though. I ordered my drinks and the food came. SOOOO MUCH FOOD. This was my 2nd dinner here and it was DELICIOUS!! A lot of food for a solo but I ate all of it. This is a must each trip.

Disneyworld2009827.jpg

A highlight to my dinner was when the fireworks began - the music is piped into the dining room and my view was perfect. It truly was a magical evening.

I then headed back to the MK for Spectromagic and redid some of my favorite rides.

Day 7: FINAL FULL DAY

After 6 days here, the rain finally left. I spent some time at the POP Pool. That was a nice relaxing start to my day. I then had lunch in the food court. Then boarded the bus to go shopping at Downtown Disney. The discount with AP at World of Disney is GREAT!!!

I then took the board to the French Quarter resort for Beignets. This was a complete waste of 3 hours of my vacation. First, the boat from DD to POR took forever to come. However, the boat ride was nice.

I got to see Characters in Flight.

Disneyworld20091035.jpg

Disneyworld20091040.jpg

Once I got to FQ - I went to the food court. I was in there for 40 minutes getting 3 beingets. The reason? They were increadibly slow. Maybe they seemed very slow because I was accustomed to the fast pace POP food court. But even the check out line took 10 minutes and it was only 2 people in line.

To make matters worse, the beignets were not even that great. I then boarded the bus for Epcot. I knew there was stops but nothing could have prepared me for the misserable trip I was about to embark.

The FQ is the 1st of 4 or 5 stops. I was on that bus on that property between FQ and POR for about 40 minutes before we even headed to Epoct. It was HORRIBLE!!! I will never, ever do that again.

As soon as I got to Epcot, the worst hurricane rain of the week had just started. I was soaked in matter of seconds. The rain and wind was terrible. I debated leaving and going back to POP - but I decided to stay. I rode Spaceship Earth and Universe of Energy to dry off. When I came out, it was 7pm and the sun was out a little which was nice. I then headed to Mexico for CS (DELICIOUS!!!).

After Mexico, I left Epcot and returned to POP to dry off and relax.

I then headed to the Magic Kingdom around 11am for EMHs and I re-did the whole park. A treat was that I got to ride Splash Mountain by myself 5 times when the park closed. It was great!!!

The park closed at 2am.. it was a beautiful night!!!!

I then headed back to POP to pack and head to bed for my flight out Monday.

Next up.. the FINALE!!

Saying Goodbye to the World...

My ME pick up time was at 11:15AM. I was up at 8am and out the room by 915am.

I then headed to the Airport Check In - this is a GREAT SERVICE. Make sure you pay for luggage fee in advance. It was so nice to not have to stand in line at the airport to check in and do luggage.

After checking in for my flight, I went to the arcade and used the 30 minutes. That card is a bust, you cant use it on anything that gives tickets. I ended up giving it away.

I then went to the food court and waited around for lunch at 1030. I got a pizza, ate that and went outside to wait for my bus by 1045am.

A bus showed up and to my surprise, I was asked did I want to leave early. That was great, I was able to leave 15 minutes early. The bus was empty and the goodbye video was sad.

The end to a perfect solo vacation...
