Solo Trip Advice

Hello everyone,

I am planning a solo trip in January of 2009. My last (and first trip) included a delicious meal at Cítricos and I wanted to try out some more of the restaurants Walt Disney World has to offer.

I am curious about the specifics of the family-style service restaurants. Would I be able to go as a single diner or would it be better to try another restaurant? Also do you have any restaurants you think are must-do's during a trip to WDW?

Thank you advance for your replies,

I did Ohana's solo in March. Some feel funny about going to a place like that solo but it did not bother me at all. Whispering Canyon for breakfast might be interesting solo. As far as favorites, Artist Point, Grand Floridian Cafe, Boma, just to name a few.

I am one of those that feel "funny" about going to family style places by myself. That does not mean I wouldn't do it if I had a strong desire to eat at a specific one. It's just that sitting there with all the food either makes me feel bad about all the waste or to offset the waste I stuff myself like a horse. Neither choice is ideal in my book.

However, there is nothing wrong about eating solo in a family style place. The CM's are just as accomidating to a single as they are to a dozen.

My favorite place to eat solo is Victoria & Alberts. They are wonderful and make everyone feel special. I am a big fan of Citricos as well. I also enjoy the beergarden at Germany pavillion. You're seated at big tables with everyone else so you never feel alone. Japan is good too, sit at the sushi bar. I like the Yachtsman's steakhouse at Yacht Club and Whispering Canyon is always fun, no matter who you go with:)

Yea im one of those "feel funny" eating alone people. I would probably be eating alot of counter service stuff If I went to the world alone....

When we were at the Liberty Tree Tavern in April there was a solo at the table next to us. She didn't seem to mind and seemed to get good service. I think they brought her a smaller platter of food than they did for us (a family of 4) so it didn't seem too weird.

As for a must-do, I would suggest Boma if you have never been there.

Personally, I haven't done any of the family-style meals solo, but I've definitely seen it done - they just bring out smaller portions (though obviously it's still AYCE).

Here are some great solo spots I have found:

-Brown Derby (especially for lunch)
-Sci-Fi (although you can get seated RIGHT behind someone, just like a twosome)
-The Plaza
-Le Cellier
-Chefs de France
-Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch)

Good luck!
