SOFT OPENING WATCH - Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster

They were running trains full of cms all day today when it wasn't storming. Tons of mad, uninformed guests causing a ruckus in front of the ride because of it. I found it quite entertaining. The ride looks fantastic from the outside, will continue to keep an eye on it for public riders.

It's likely that those wearing MagicBands were CMs Guests. As CMs we don't have the ability to link our Main Entrance pass to a MagicBand yet. I don't know for a fact but usually when CMs get a pass to "play-test" it is for themselves and usually 1 other person. I didn't see the invites for this one for the MK cast but my guess is this is what happened.
3 days of testing.
Office and salary cm's only initially.
Some lines of business gave them to hourly.

Passes were good as many times as you wanted provided it was running.

CM's only. No family. Had to show your ID w/ the pass.

Just left MK. Crews working all over the tracks and no trains running at all. Control boxes were open at various points along the tracks. Who knows what's going on! Seems like opening on the 28th is going to be a challenge.

28th is still almost two weeks away. Work going on at this point on the control system would necessarily mean it couldn't open on that date. Now if you had seen them remove an entire section of track, then I would be worried.

Thanks for the update

I apologize for my choice in words by saying open on the 28th could be a challenge. My intention was not to put the forum into a tailspin. I more just wanted to share that the trains aren't running today and it seems like they are still tweaking things. This was my 3rd time at MK this week and it seems the crowds are getting more and more restless.

I don't think you need to apologize. I think most reasonable people would understand what you were saying.

Oh? Sorry you feel that way.
People need to stop making assumptions based on "a feeling" that they are simply in no way qualified to have. There are a lot of people who read this site that are casual industry observers that do not understand the difference.

I can only take that statement as you are more than a simple "casual industry observer" and probly understand the difference. If so, shouldnt you be used to people with an untrained eye making casual, from the hip statements? Why let it bother you so much? A simple correction would help educate the "casual industry observer" and also prevent them from making further inaccurate statements, thus preventing further frustration on your behalf,... unless your a gluten for punishment.

I read these boards every night. It's part of my routine - I love that there are people out there as passionate about WDW as I am. I never post. I've posted twice this week while here at WDW just to share what I've observed. It's interesting though how serious people take it. It's called "news and rumors" not "if you don't know for sure don't post here!" Can't we all be friends?

On another note - the landscape and design of the mine train is excellent. They were running cars on Monday and I was blown away at how quiet it was. Have never heard/seen anything like it. Wonder how much this will change as the cars and tracks age?

Haven't really read through much of this thread, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting info. I have been to MK 3 days a week for the last 12 weeks. I have seen unmanned testing, final construction details, wall removal, extremity clearance testing, engineer timing riding, cast member testing and riding, all trains cycling unmanned, emergency stops, rain testing etc. A few guests have been picked at random by management at other attractions, and asked if they would like to ride. Otherwise the likelihood of any traditional guest "soft openings" are slim to none. A very slight chance during the 24hour and wouldn't surprise me, but that is CM rumor. Any guests going to the queue up until the 24th will be turned away, and most likely after the 24th to the 28th as well. I am amazed by the guests that come up to the queue area, ask to ride, are turned away, and are incensed and pouty, despite the sign saying May 28! Where is it written that management is required to allow rides before the scheduled opening date? May 28 is only 13 days away, and that is the day it is scheduled to open. FP+ is available as everyone reading has probably already scheduled theirs. The ride is quiet, mild, butter smooth, and the carts swivel in the chassis in the turns as advertised. The rockwork and landscaping is beautiful, and Imagineers tell me it is the best scenic work they have ever done. Vercoma did Barnstormer and EE, and SDMT is a mild, tame blending, including the latest wheel technology, with low speeds and fairly low drop elevations.

I agree.
Totally.

Check out how many cms they had hanging out out front this afternoon!

I guess if they can't be cycling the attraction they are told to just stand there and play greeter

I noticed that when I walked by today, tons of CMs just standing around out front. Rain rolled through a couple times so my guess is that CM testing was originally planned and when the weather messed that up, they all went to stand outside in the human wall.

No testing was planned today, most of the CMs standing outside either work at other rides in the nearby area or are there for support. Why they've decided they need so many CMs there is another question.
